Very nice... however. Even with 2 nails, I fear they will eventually start falling off the wall
I have the same feeling... 2 small nails going into sheet rock doesn't seem solid enough... maybe with a little glue to the back of each one ?
They will never fall of with those coats of paint over them which basically glues it.
Honestly, I was surprised at how hard they were to pull out when I removed them! If you 'dovetail' them a bit by shooting each nail at a slight opposing angle, they ain't going nowhere.

I think a lot of people just don't "get" DIY'ers...suggesting it would be easier to just go buy something at the store. DIY'ers don't want to go buy it ready made...we want to make it ourselves. It isn't an issue of it taking a long time, it's an issue of enjoying the process, saving money and being proud that we were able to create something! I LOVE your brick wall, and think it's very cleverly done. I personally don't like the idea of white bricks, but I have an artist daughter who could paint them to look like plain old (beautiful) brick!
That turned out WAY better than I would have expected!
One way to "rough up" your wood planks would be to toss them in a concrete tumbler (maybe 15-20 at a time) along with a bunch of screws, wrenches, and miscellaneous items that could add character as the tumbler rotates.
Haha, I love it!! You know, if you have a concrete tumbler just sitting around somewhere...

I was thinking distressing before cutting would definitely speed things up and make it super easy to make it look random. That remedies the lack of industrial equipment lol. I'm remodeling a 10x16 lofted shed for my waxing studio and this is #1 on my list for my large wall. ❤

I actually did this ...it took A LOT longer than I anticipated , but I was also putting it on a concrete wall in my basement so I had to use a construction adhesive (which took longer and was more costly than simply nailing it to the wall) the knockdown spray texture did work well , but the cans clog really easily even when following the directions ,so one whole can was wasted . Despite all this I do love the look , and because it’s in my studio I can actually tack things to the wall/into the “brick” which I could have never done if I would have went the faster option of buying the fake brick panels ...

My input: I would texture and paint the wall with the color of "grout" you want, then rough up/texture and paint the "bricks" prior to installation. I think that would give a more realistic and 3D look to the wall. I like it as a single tome as well though.
Yep, I think that's a great alternative installation, especially if you want to try imitating unpainted brick with some red/brown paint combos. The only consideration with painting beforehand is hiding the nail holes. They're pretty subtle, though, so wouldn't be too difficult to hide. Chris Thompson's idea would probably work with Liquid nails or some other strong adhesive instead of actual nails. The furring strip isn't very heavy. No nails, no nail holes, no coverup.
BY FAR the best faux brick wall project I've seen that someone with not a lot of skills can easily do. Perfect for a wall in my tiny, weirdly rectangular room (5ft*11ft) that's the size of a beam and has doors on either sides! LOVE IT! thank you so much for this tutorial ❤

Please accept my humble constructive criticism. I have several years experience in home renovation and enhancement. I think the wall beneath those blocks is way to far recessed to lend itself to a realistic brick effect. The block idea is cool and has potential. But it is a shame that you put in so much effort only to miss the mark by so far. If the blocks were much thinner, say maybe 1/8th to 5/16th inch thick, and after they were put up you were to use that texture spray on it's heaviest thickest setting, focusing on the spaces between the blocks and used a scraper to clean the blocks as you went, then when that was done hit the blocks on a lower setting so there was visual contrast of textured between "brick" and "morter joints" then painted when that was dry, you would have a much more realistic brick look for not nuch more additional work. No offense, but the only thing i like about this finished project is the inspiration your idea and effort gave me to think of a way to hVe a immensely better finished product. So thank you for that. I will sub and like. I watched some of your other vids. I like your channel, you have talent. ThNk you.
Love it! And I think not having the ‘grout’ really makes the ‘bricks’ stand out and adds some texture and depth.

Lowe's Home Improvement if you keep the grout gap by starting off painting the wall the color the grout would end up being. Depending on style of room, a shock of hot pink or turquoise as the color for grout would be fun and unexpected. Also, maybe a bit smaller grout lines. Maybe. But I loved this video, keep them coming!
Came out really nice! Great for people who already have the tools. For those who do not the tape and spackle option looks very realistic, inexpensive and easy to revamp when you're ready for change with no damage to the drywall. No nails, glue or sawing also probably the same amount of time to complete

as a carpenter its nice to see others ideas to implement into my projects. ive done a faux brick wall for a client, but they wanted the traditional brick colours and textures. but if a client wanted the brick white i would definitely give this a try. subbed

Love it! Gonna do this for my showroom in distressed, to display my vintage repainted furniture pieces. Lowes has a fireplace turorial, which I transformed brick fireplace in my home. I will use this technique, but sponge paint the wood in different colors, like the other tutorial I did in my home. I'm so excited, I wish I was already back from vacation, so i could get started. 5 *****'s from me!

If you use painter's tape to make the grid patterns and then use joint compound it's another really great inexpensive way of faux brick.

If you had a plainer and got the thickness down then the wood would be closers to the wall and then the wall would look like your missing grout. That way it does not look like bricks with no grout
Not a bad idea, +CoolRaul! Some extra time up front, but could be nice if you're going for the shallower effect. You'd just need to adjust your nail gun pressure & nail length so you don't split the thinner pieces.

CoolRaul definitely had the exact same idea about planning one side of the furing strip so that it would sit more flush with the wall and cut down on thickness. I would also add to maybe try and down some of the "brick" texturing to the furing strip before it is cut. Easier to lay them all in a row and do the duvets, cuts, etc...
I had the same thought too. "Lowe's Home Improvement's version reminds me of a 1960's ranch house. If you wanted an old factory brick wall look, you could also vary the thicknesses of the "bricks" a bit for variety. Then do some sponge techniques and a flat clearcoat to make it look aged.
instead of a planer why not just buy the wood in 1/4 thickness or 3/8 ? probably cheaper too

This is really neat. To nitpick I thought the horizontal 'mortar gap' looked a tad big, and the brick edges could be more consistently square (they appear beveled on the long sides) but I'm not the one doing all the great work here with improvised materials.
So hey... It really doesn't have to look exactly like real bricks and mortar joins up close to have a very pleasing effect. That's all that matters.

I was gonna say spray extra texture first, but I'd imagine it might cause visible gaps for an otherwise-easy project but otherwise it's a really cool idea, and it gives a heck of a neat look.
I'd actually consider using this technique but keeping the wood texture and perhaps staining it instead to give some other unique looks!
I think going the stain route could be really cool, esp if you eliminated the grout gap. You could even use a couple different stain colors to make it mosaic-like. Try it, man!
Maybe replace grout with like colored silicone caulking to add some kind of contrast. Or just tacking to an already colored wall, too?
Looks AMAZING, best version of this hack I've ever seen. That being said if I ever did this I would probably use thinner slats so that they're closer to the wall and stick out slightly less, to make it more similar to actual bricks
I actually liked the way it looked unpainted...lol looks great white too. I did a back splash this way... I used jenga pieces. And in my bathroom, I used the same size as a brick, only 1/4 in thick.

This is a SUUUUUPER video! LOVE it.
I'd do a base coat in a dark color to give it more dimension, then a mid-tone white, and finally dry brush some of the edges and dremel hits with a slightly lighter tone for highlights. (gives the illusion of more depth and plays up all your texture efforts.) Really cool idea.
Looks great, wondering about painting sides and ends of bricks red before applying, then rolling the face of the bricks. Painting the wall black first

Love it, and I enjoyed watching. I still think I want to do the brick panels but this is a great idea.
This idea actually popped in my head while im sitting in garage on week 2 of covid 19 . Anyway i would have just did half cuts on the wood if you plan to do it that way, obviously if going with herring bone or basket weave then you do have to cut it like bricks.
For texture a medium thick coat of thin set or drywall mud sprayed using a hopper gun (30 bucks at harbor freight) , if you did half cuts on wood then adding a bit more on the horizontal grout line should even out depth. I would mix paint primer with the mud prior to shooting texture to save a step. Let dry,sand till you achieve desired texture then paint. Thats haulin nailing all those wood pieces in 2 hours. Great job.
