I have been living In Ireland for 5 years now and when we decided to immigrate here, everyone told us we will be back. Here are my pros and cons of Ireland. Positive: Safety, Free Medical aid, Free education, Electricity 😊, The police, The postal system, Amazon, Internet, Jobs (no BEE), Friendly People, Clean Cities, hardly any potholes, snow in winter -5 , hot summers 42, Traveling to other countries is cheap. Cons The weather 😊 . I’m Happy here

This is how it is always going to be as long as the ANC is in charge. Take it or leave it. Most whites claim to love any country they end up in whether through birth or by choice. You can leave if you want to once you are in your desired country we can't really tell where you came from so you can easily immerse yourself in any country you choose.

Yes it does seem that this country is only for the wealthy but so is most countries now.

Housing crises, daycare rate robbery, cost of living, unfriendly shy sun, mortgages are based on your income, rental properties are like voting lines and highest bidder gets it ,with mould probably. Take it or leave it.
Impossible to move with a family with young kids unless you’re a millionaire and live anywhere near a capital city.

Been in the UK 32 yrs now and, like many S Africans, been very successful here, as have my children. My love of Africa/ S Africa remains undimmed and from afar the self serving, thieving ANC that does everything in its power to do what is wrong in pursuit of creating the thriving powerhouse country SA should be, is both aggravating and depressing at the same time. Hard to fathom why the ANC seems to have so little interest in retaining the wealth of talent that so successfully plies its talents in the major cities of the West. London is packed full of highly skilled, successful S Africans who really should be doubling the SA GDP. Been recently tapping into the local SA situation much more as my wife and I feel drawn to spending 10 or so years back in SA as retirees and will think it through over the next few years as the 'pull' factor of our roots is strong. As things are, would not expect too many well settled expats to come back with children in tow.

I’m on the Isle of Man. Not easy to get into, but possibly the country with the highest population percentage of South African expats (10%) in the world. I left because I had family here, and on the first night of my first visit I realised how safe I felt. Life here has strong positives, although it isn’t easy to make genuine friends with those who aren’t fellow South Africans. I love the weather (snow days are amazing) and my quality of life is good. I’d originally thought it would be nice to take some friends back to South Africa to show them around but have abandoned that idea as SA crime and load shedding has increased. Some Saffas here love visiting SA, and I respect people who want to return some day. I, personally, am not one of them but each to their own. It’s been an adjustment, but well worth it in my opinion.

It's nice to see you are covering the other side of South Africa - those that have left but remain steadfast S African. We would all love to return home, but our family and friends remind us daily what they are going through. The ANC may be a joke, but unfortunately its not a comedy worth living under. BTW, I'm Portuguese/South African and I live in the Netherlands - great work/educational opportunities, good medical support at reasonable cost, police force that actually works and yes, the weather isn't great, but you can't have everything in life. If we need good weather, we fly for an hour South. If we need to braai, then there is always one around the corner. If we need rugby, then the WC is also around the corner. Go Bokke!

You say shits expensive, but here in SA with how shit things are now, it doesn't matter if it's cheaper, because with how lacking jobs and decent paying jobs are, you earn next to nothing anymore, which makes living expensive anyway. Plus you find yourself having to move every couple years because certain people move in and turn everything into a township, of filth, crime and inconsideration. I'd rather stay put then having to live in a shithole and seeing people defecate in public the moment you leave your driveway. Hoping when you come home the house, foundation and all isn't fking stolen. Plus the youth are not considered and will have to leave anyway because there is nothing here for them.

Thank you for an interesting video. I have four children who are all married and are living overseas. They live in four different countries and vow never to come back to South Africa. My wife and I totally agree with and support them. They and the grandchildren are living successful, happy and safe lives in their new countries. They have lived on average between for almost ten years in their new countries. They have met many South African friends and have simulated well with the local peoples. I am what the younger generation calls a dinosaur. I and my older generation have helped with building up this country, now only to see how it has been destroyed. Even if the ANC were to loose the election this country will fall into chaos. The ANC will not accept defeat. Just look at the politics of the day. My personnel advice to the youngsters of today get your education and emigrate as fast as you can. There is no future in this country.

BTW Netherlands is most definitely not shit. Been living here for a year and spent the past 5 weeks in South Africa visiting family. Netherlands is a country where everything just works by comparison to SA.
What Darren said is correct. While the ANC remains in power and if the EFF gets any stronger, SA has no future whatsoever. Even if the ANC get bounced in the next election, it will take a decent party (of which we don't really have any) at least 5 - 10 years to undo the damage these corrupt thieves have done since 1994. At my age I do not have the time to wait for that to happen.
I loved the past 5 weeks I spent in SA but the loadshedding, potholes, water restrictions and everything else from Thabo Bester to the ANC vetoing a proposal to investigate Phala Phala makes me realise more and more that until there are massive positive changes including the entire ANC NEC going to jail for the rest of their lives, South Africa is not the place for me to live.

I don't think South Africans are overly friendly, the older generation was but people aren't like that anymore. Everyone lives their own lives behind barbed wire, electric fences that don't work and 6 foot walls. The majority of South Africans are extremely depressed and are unhappy, one just has to look at the appalling conditions they have to live in and I'm not only referring to the underprivileged people it is beginning to apply to everyone except for those with huge bank accounts. Unless there is an extreme positive shift in South Africa (a miracle), I would encourage everyone with kids to immigrate for a safer and better way of life. Darren and his wife did the right thing.

Have been in UK for 35 years now. The country has been very good to me, completed a university degree free of charge, free healthcare as well and a generous benefits system as a safety net between jobs. I like the weather here, it is very changeable with no two days exactly the same. I adore the Open Golf Championship and the many links courses around the British Isles. Nothing better than to pit yourself against a biting wind on a links golf course. I don't miss the monotonous sunny days on the Highveld but I do miss the spectacular natural beauty of SA such as God's Window in what was Eastern Transvaal. White South Africans in 70s and 80s often quite rude, boorish, insulting, hostile. Black South Africans more joyful and generous in spirit. Yes, English people not that easy to get close to, but hey, I love my privacy in any case. English generally have many good qualities such as honesty, politeness, trustworthiness, reliability, fairness, tolerance, law abiding and sense of humour. They could do with better work ethic as many are lazy and fat. They also lack morals and are almost all atheists. Not a healthy place to raise children at all. Too many people aspire to the lowest common denominator and lack aspiration of any kind which is led by the tabloid media. A lot of English get sick on purpose by way of drugs, smoking, drinking, poor diet or a combination of these so that they can then live off the welfare state - much to the disgruntlement of the poor taxpayer. English are gloomy and pessimistic which presumably comes with the weather. So, all in all, good and bad in both countries.

It’s just a shame because S.A has such potential to become such a great country but unfortunately the way things are going it’s hard to be hopeful.

Great interview. I’m struck how “growing economy” is like a mantra. Why not a “prosperous economy”? The holy grail of GDP has been shown to be a totally false measure of both prosperity and happiness. As the world breaks up and the “supply chain” becomes increasingly local, will we all begin to understand the self indulgent “Woolworths” .. I want what I want and I want it now, trap we have created for ourselves? Don’t come back Darren, till this country is more like Ireland with better weather. 🍀🌈

    THE SOLUTION
The ANC doesn't fulfill its constitutional obligations.
The ANC is far worse than just a "poor" government, it CHOOSES to break down and to destroy. That is why this action is warranted and needed.
Most importantly the ANC incites hatred/violence against us when they say that we stole their land - I checked, we didn't.
It is not reasonable to expect law abiding tax payers to continue with "the winner takes all principle" of a democracy to their own and the country's demise.
Who says we HAVE to be part of this political dispensation? Nobody questions this. It is time to stop, think and QUESTION this.
Nothing and nobody have the right to force us to be part of this self destructive political dispensation.
Approach the courts - convince them that it would be in the best interest of the country as a whole if we control our own taxes (first goal). Justify our rejection of the current political dispensation (main goal).
Alternatively we can just use the constitutional court as a platform where we inform the ANC and public of our decision to control our money and effectively start our own government. Give reasons and evidence for our decision.
(Our money under our control).
Of eerder waarop is n minderheidsgroep in ons omstandighede GEREGTIG?
Dit gaan oor waardes, breek jy af of bou jy.
