It would be great if Westinghouse could come out with an upgraded Automatic Transfer Switch that could work with the 50 Amp 240 VAC Output, for more backup power capability on more circuits in the home. That would be the next best thing to having a Generac unit - at a fraction of the cost.

Waste of 9500 watt generator used to run 2 outlets for just a few loads in your house. That 30 amp cable should be hooked up directly to your house load box to run the whole house. Forgo the expensive transfer switch and get a manual switch. I am running my whole house including a 5 ton AC with a 8500 watt generator. I installed an EASY START on my AC and it works like a charm.

I like this transfer switch, but I hate that it’s only for a few appliances. I want something to power my entire home. Great video!

20 amp is just too small to me. Love your videos tho. I would rather use a contractor mounted in a box. Add a time delay for start and warm up as well as relay to start gen when power is lost. You could put this all together and use 30amps to feed a critical loads panel with any electric start gen. 20 amps is just too small loved the idea but just isn’t practical unless your generator is smaller than 8500 watts.

What surprises me is the mismatch between the capacity of this transfer switch, and the supported generators. I guess Westinghouse doesn't make anything smaller than 5kw with an electric start? But using a transfer switch like this with a 2kw maximum capacity on a 5.3kw generator, let alone a 9500 or 1200w generator, just seems wasteful. This product would make much more sense if you could pair it with a 2-3kw generator.

I think I figured something out. The GE smart switch does not connect to the main panel but to a heater or AC. Connecting to an outlet from the wall outlet (receptacle) the GE Smart Switch will detect if the power should go off. The Data cable will inform the generator that the power is off. Then the outlets on the GE smart Switch will kick the generator on and will power any item up to 20 amps on its outlets. My main concern is that I would like a little heat delivered to the plumbing during the cold spells when are not at our home. Now I would still need a Transfer switch to connect the 50 amps to the main panel and give more power to other devices .

Yes, I've seen that device for sale on Amazon as well. It seems like a neat little device. However, I think its a shame that it doesn't support the full abilities of the L-14-30 connection, only 2-120V outlets breakered to 20-amps, is most certainly wasting that connections abilities. I have the Westinghouse 7500-watt generator, and I purchased one of those L-14-30 twist lock distribution cables to 4-120V outlets. This way I can power a space heater or AC unit on one leg, and a fridge and microwave on the other leg, as well as some lights.

Leaves town and comes back to find the generation missing.

What happens to the battery, because you have to leave the ignition switch in the on position are the generator won’t start? Say it set there a week don’t the battery run down when switch is left to on position? The ignition switch is the problem with most remote start generators!

Nifty gadget! Sorry I can't add anything to a subject I know nothing about, but enjoy your videos nonetheless. Looks like you've got everything covered. That's very nice of you to explain things to easier facilitate others interested in getting these preps up to par! Same old same old with me...canning, baking, dehydrating foodstuffs, sewing. Taking advantage of some beautiful night skies!👵😁🌌🌱🌻

This seems like a perfect solution for your natural gas furnace and refrigerator/freezer.

That's great to add to your new generator. Please let us know how it works for you. I pray there won't be a hurricane when it goes to battle for you. Stay safe.

Thanks for the overview of the ST switch. I'm on the fence on getting this. It only 25 feet cord though. I would have to leave it outside near my outdoor outlet and run and extention cord to the inside to run the back up power too. I like to implement something to the manual transfer I have somehow.

This is great. Plug a Generlink into the 50a outlet and you have power to the whole house
