The man who wrote all the Ripped books back in the 70's, 80's, 90', and even now, say that walking was the key to him setting records for leanness. I followed his walking program and found this to be very true. Walking and movement like that not only burns calories, but it gets your blood sugar/insulin levels back in check, along with appetite/satiety hormones Leptin and Ghrelin levels and responses in the brain working properly. Continuous movement activities like walking, done regularly, also send messages to your CNS that you are doing something regularly that could be done more efficiently if you were leaner. Your body responds by creating more fat burning enzymes in the muscles. Try for 15,000 steps per day on average, and you'll see the body fat drop off of you. If you do some hard lifting and occasional HIIT cardio training on top of that, you will be lean and muscular within months, depending on what your starting body fat percentage is. Thank you.
@@goul82 Well, it was from the Clarence Bass Ripped series of books. I basically walked about 90 minutes per day. 45 minutes in the morning, and the 45 minutes again later on. I did that 6 days per week. You can also do 30 min am, 30 min afternoon, 30 min evening. You get more " bang for the buck " if you break it up into several walks, as the first walk raises your basal metabolic rate somewhat for the day. The amount of calories burned, along with appetite control and the constant messages to the Central Nervous System about your volume of movement, will really make any diet very easy, and the body fat will start dropping like you wouldn't believe. Do that for 16 weeks and you'll lose QUITE a lot of body fat, more than any program you've ever been on. Hit the weight once or twice a week during that time, and do 1 day per week of interval training on a bike or rower or treadmill or stair stepper. But movement like WALKING is really the key. The body was meant to MOVE. Walking incorporates the large muscles of the legs, hips, and back, along with arm swing. Trust me, try it, and you'll see.......

I’m walking usually 15,000 steps a day and my blood pressure reduction is the greatest benefit I’ve seen. I have also noticed my trousers are getting more challenging to keep from dropping. Each morning I’m champing at the bit to start. Indoor track, YMCA patio, by Robinwood Lake, hiking trails, in cycle studio when empty, treadmill, around soccer field. Plus, I sometimes visit Clay Street Jogging Track which I helped build in 1967. It’s also a mental benefit seeing countless friendly fellow members working out, reducing body fat. People of ALL ages. For a compulsive exerciser and people person, hey, it’s heaven on earth! Whenever I feel lazy and just want to watch Netflix. I grab my phone, go for a walk and watch it on my phone. Pretty great for tricking yourself. If you wanna get lazy then you’re gonna have to at least walk while doing it!
This is perfect, thanks for letting us know! 💪🏻 As a student I don’t get to move a lot throughout the day, but this is so easy (and the best excuse to take a break from the books and listen to some podcasts 😝).
I went from a job on my feet for 8 hours to sitting for 8 hours. I get an hour lunch and spend at least 30 minutes of lunch walking (not too quickly, I am quite dressed up) and I still only get about 5k steps. So I work hard to even get the other 5k in through the day. I am still working on how to fit it all in though.
If anyone is aiming to do 10k steps a day. Get good workout shoes because your feet are going to be hurting in the beginning badly. If a treadmill, you'll want a decent Fitbit to track steps but if you're doing actual walks then there's one on Amazon for less than $20. What I've been doing is wearing pants and a hoodie to help increase how much I sweat and have been walking indoors up and down flights of stairs from one side of the building to the next. I tend to force myself to continue until all 10k is finished so I maximize how much I burn instead of having resting periods, but do whatever you're comfortable with until you can get to 10k without struggling. Usually takes about an hour half - two hours each day so you have to commit if you want to lose weight. I'm still 210, 5'7. Slowly burning the fat but it starts feeling a lot easier as time goes by and becomes normal which is awkward as hell to say.
I usually get my 10k steps in at work at the moment. I even wear a hoodie to increase the heat on my body and walk the stairs to increase the workout. With the mindset of "don't stop walking until the Fitbit buzzes" so my body doesn't rest until the workout is over lol
If you are trying to burn fat and lose weight, walking a minimum of 10K steps a day will work perfectly if you are in a caloric deficit. Adding an additional 10K steps a day to your caloric deficit journey helps burn a minimum of 500 calories per day depending on your weight. The heavier you are, the more calories you’ll burn
I have been doing on average 20k steps a day after 2 years of absolutely 0 exercise. Im 3 wks In and legs feel firmer, stomach and upwards I am losing from at the min and I can feel the inner thigh shrinking aswell. My leggings are now falling down after being very tight on the waist especially . I don’t Weigh myself as it’s not good for my headspace so don’t know how much I have lost so far. I bought a walking treadmill and do 3x30/40mins a day. Easier to fit in and I can watch tv while I do it. I feel happier, more energetic, less stressed, asthma is getting better, I eat better and drink much less alcohol but still enjoy a couple of gins whilst Cooking for the family and now have a better relationship with moving for fitness .
@@livelystones7773 I eat low carb but not strict keto or anything. Little to no sugar. Semi skimmed milk, a couple of gins with sugar free tonic water most nights. Tend to have steak with salad or some other protein with veg. Lunch is rice cakes with grated cheese, or scrambled eggs with ham.
I’ve been going out hiking to get my 10k the last few days. It takes me approximately 70 minutes to get 10k steps at a 17’ (quick but not power walking) pace.
This week I walked almost everyday, i have no patience and had 2 days of walking 30.000 steps, the first time my calf's were killing me but the day after I recovered, the second time was day 3 with little discomfort. I'm thinking about alternating 20k and 30k steps per day.
Thanks for this information Lean Machines! In case anyone is intimidated, it doesn't take me as long as 1h40m to do 10,000 steps, so the time commitment might not be so big. I walk my dog for ~1hr and that is enough along with normal daily movement. If I have appointments that involve more travel it will be 12-15,000, so I don't find it too difficult in my lifestyle. However, the point of the target is to increase your movement - it doesn't have to be walking, so if you live in an area where that's not practical, other kinds of low-intensity activity are just as good.
10,000 steps is about 4.5 miles, so even walking at a nice pace of 3mph, it’s going to take you 1:30 to get 10,000. That’s a continuous pace. So yeah. Time commitment can be so bad.
Referring to getting 10,000 steps as no exercise is ridiculous. Walking is an exercise. Walking is an easier/low impact exercise, but I don't understand why people talk about getting 10k steps in as if it's not exercise. It's more than the average person walks in a day. About 5 miles if I recall correctly.
The only way to lose weight is to learn to control your diet. You cannot exercise enough to compensate for a bad diet. An hour on a treadmill walking at 4 MPH burns about 350 calories. Much simpler and realistic just to cut 350 calories from your menu. The rule of thumb is that it takes about 10 calories each day to support a pound of weight. If you weigh 250 lbs. and want to weigh 150 lbs, you simply confine yourself to 1500 calories a day. Eventually you will weigh 150 lbs. The time to get there depends on what KIND of calories you consume and your dedication to an exercise regimen. Brisk walking is good cardio, , but must be combined with resistance training and yoga or some other exercise focused on flexibility and balance.. Cardio, resistance, flexibility and balance exercises (focus on each of these twice a week) combined with a healthy, rational diet.
Such a great video. It felt pretty oldschool, or like back to basis, before you guys were so much into crossfit. Please keep doing more videos like this.
My grandpa was in the infantry on the eastern front WW2. The basic expectation from every foot soldier was marching 40 kms a day if needed (that is 50-60K steps) with equipment. Of course they didnt do this every day, but every healthy man between the age 15-60 should be capable of walking 8 hrs a day if needed, thats basic fitness.
I have walked over 600km since xmas, lost quite a bit of weight, I have often burned of everything I have eaten. I am skinny fat. I have overdone the walks though. I think 9km a day is sufficient, but I want to eat to maintenance one day, eat 500 cals below the other and on the deficit day, walk 18km.
I bought a treadmill pre-lockdown and have worked my way up to 30,000 steps (4 hours) a day. I'm not noticing much difference in my weight but my body feels "tighter" or maybe leaner is the correct word. I think I'm struggling to lose weight due to taking olanzapine, drugs like these put on stubborn weight around the midsection.
@@TheLeanMachines I'm desperately trying to improve my health and induce a bit of weight loss. What's a suggestion on macros? I just started a sedentary job. I can do the 10,000 steps a day. Like you said it takes me about an hour and a half or forty minutes with at least an hour of that being LISS cardio. But now my issue is finding the energy to do my strength training 😅😅😭
That's an interesting find, I used to have a fitbit and it counted pretty much every jolt as a step. Assault bikes would count as steps, snatches and anything involving jumping would make the fitbit count as steps. I've now moved over to a Garmin watch and it's a lot more strict with steps, e.g. assault bike won't count, any weightlifting won't count etc just like what you saw. Every fitness watch differs and offers slightly varied results which you should people need to be accounting for and take as a kind of window rather than something that's set in stone.
I'm a full time football coach and I average 12,000 - 14,000 steps a day when working a busy day. When my hours were reduced during Ramadan, I found that I had to work hard to hit my 10,000 step goal!
I get my 10,000 steps before 11 most days of the week, I always weight training and count calories I still can’t loose bloody weight 😤 very frustrating I most simple when I was just dieting now all the exercise can not shift it.

My Mi band 5 has workout modes but no aerobic workout only converted as Fast walking. When I do a total body workout with weights there's a FREESTYLE mode, you just have to activate to monitor the duration. Calories burned has stats mainly based on the heart rate I'm guessing. Android smartwatches are versatile we just have to find the one that works best for us.
If you are not a gymast you can actually do more pull ups etc with gloves. It takes away some of the pain and let’s you actually do more exercise because the tears blood etc will likely not stop you.
Taking 100 minutes to walk 5 miles? That is a REALLY slow pace. LOL My normal walking pace is around 4.5mph. So I can easily hit 10K steps in 65 min or so. On average I'll walk between 20-30K steps daily on top of whatever formal workouts I do. Not only is it such an EASY way to stay lean, but it is great for general health and mood.
Check out dr Jason Fung on calories in calories out, the sports scientist Prof Tim Noakes and Thomas DeLauer! Too many carbs in that ready meal you had! 😱
I take 1500+ to 20000 steps or more everyday. I have 2 sets of twins, 3 dogs, work and a husband. My Nordic Track bike and treadmill, Boxing or Kick Boxing, and 300 to 500 jump rope, are how I get my steps in a day
It's best to get most of your exercise in after you wake up from sleeping because this is when your blood sugar will be at its lowest and you will burn more fat. Thirty minutes after your walk/ run. yku eat a healthy meal to raise your sugar for more energy. 10k or 5 miles walked/run a day can be done threwout the day.
LPtherapy Group : thanks . The job is on the feet all day , walking non stop up and down flights of stairs and very often carrying up to 50 kilos plus ( think very loaded suitcases ) . On summer days where the garmin can show 25 K steps and upwards , I have lost so much weight some days that i need to make new holes in my belt . To lose 5 kg in a week at work is very possible if not guaranteed . The scales don’t always show it but the difference in how the clothes fit does.

Whenever I feel lazy and just want to watch Netflix. I grab my phone, go for a walk and watch it on my phone. Pretty great for tricking yourself. If you wanna get lazy then you’re gonna have to at least walk while doing it!
Sabrina Siq that is not a bad idea hehe.
It’s a great idea! I normally watch UA-cam video of people working out or some sort of motivational video to keep me going while I walk!
Its better than just sit on your couch, but you might be lossing some attention to the road and walk slower.
This is perfect, thanks for letting us know! 💪🏻
As a student I don’t get to move a lot throughout the day, but this is so easy (and the best excuse to take a break from the books and listen to some podcasts 😝).
Steps taken a day are verryyyyy overlooked
“Well OBVIOUSLY tell me something I don’t know” HAHAHA I love his accent
I went from a job on my feet for 8 hours to sitting for 8 hours. I get an hour lunch and spend at least 30 minutes of lunch walking (not too quickly, I am quite dressed up) and I still only get about 5k steps. So I work hard to even get the other 5k in through the day. I am still working on how to fit it all in though.
you'll get there!!
Go home and put on walk away the pounds on YT much safer than walking outside late at night after work! Good luck
It’s working for me. 25.5 lbs down. Fixed diet, began walking 10k steps, aerobic and anerobic exercise
Walking is so underrated
That’s such great motivation! 😍 Can I ask what you generally eat please ??
Don't you just love a GoPro in your morning coffee!
Love the Video mate! that advice is class. People do throw "move more" around too much with no context! this defo helps clear that up!
In my first week, lost 2kgs .I do 10k a day.On my second week now. Will update how it goes:)
How did it go
update?
Brilliantly explained! Love this video! Im literally gonna start tomorrow 👍thank you J
I lost 60 lbs doing nothing and eating all kinds of fatty meat and vegetables in 7 months.
That's an interesting story, thanks
I have walked over 600km since xmas, lost quite a bit of weight, I have often burned of everything I have eaten. I am skinny fat. I have overdone the walks though. I think 9km a day is sufficient, but I want to eat to maintenance one day, eat 500 cals below the other and on the deficit day, walk 18km.
John. Thank you! And it’s nice to see you 😊
I bought a treadmill pre-lockdown and have worked my way up to 30,000 steps (4 hours) a day. I'm not noticing much difference in my weight but my body feels "tighter" or maybe leaner is the correct word. I think I'm struggling to lose weight due to taking olanzapine, drugs like these put on stubborn weight around the midsection.
that’s why I sometimes skip the bus an walk those 2k in the evening :)
Needed this right now!
Hope it was helpful buddy
@@TheLeanMachines I'm desperately trying to improve my health and induce a bit of weight loss. What's a suggestion on macros? I've been hitting a terrible 10% protein my whole life which I'm been trying to up but I'm recovering from a herniated disc so my physical activity is very limited. I think I'm also nervous to get back in the gym because of it!
Only takes me about 70minutes for 10k....
Adam Waddington yes, sometimes I hit this in the morning before work. It is just easy
You must be going like a bullet. I walk at a fair clip and only get 5,000 in an hour.
@@doro8856 maybe your legs are longer.
@@branwen1386 Umm...nope. Short-legged me! :)
Adam Waddington it takes me like 2 hours
Can I have a link to that calories calc?
I just started a sedentary job. I can do the 10,000 steps a day. Like you said it takes me about an hour and a half or forty minutes with at least an hour of that being LISS cardio. But now my issue is finding the energy to do my strength training 😅😅😭
17,000 step goal
Started walking over 10,000 steps a day and easily lost 8 pounds in three days. Granted, most of it was probably water weight...but hey.
8 pounds in 3 days? Wtf ? Did you shit all of it or what ? Thats not possible
That’s really interesting so all watched are different in what they count as steps

I can't fool my versa 2......I absolutely LOVE my Fitbit. Sorry it didn't work for you! Stay fit bitches ♥️♥️🤘🤘
I'm a full time football coach and I average 12,000 - 14,000 steps a day when working a busy day. When my hours were reduced during Ramadan, I found that I had to work hard to hit my 10,000 step goal!
You guys are legends
I get my 10,000 steps before 11 most days of the week, I always weight training and count calories I still can’t loose bloody weight 😤 very frustrating I most simple when I was just dieting now all the exercise can not shift it.
Coz you are gaining muscle weight dear. Try incorporating intermittent fasting to your diet for it works :)) good luck 😉
try fasting
Best way to maintain weight
Walk up and down while making those Videos. Walk to the gym...walk to meditate...like for 1hr
Thanks for the info!
Again awesome job on this video. How the hell did u do that wicked coffee shot?
Thanks for making such a positive impact, I always watch your videos before I go to the gym to get me pumped.
Keep up the good work.
Which one, from inside the cup?
@@TheLeanMachines yep exactly
@@vanillebaervicky it was go pro camera its small and portable.
Hell yes it works.
07:05 holy shit somebody forgot leg day lmao.
The Don LoL yup
Lmao that’s what I was gonna comment
He is training legs in the video lol
Dat was some nice legs. Its hard to get thicc legs.
Misleading title . I came here for 10000 steps and he is talking about deadlifts and coffee etc .
Good video bud!
If you are not a gymast you can actually do more pull ups etc with gloves. It takes away some of the pain and let’s you actually do more exercise because the tears blood etc will likely not stop you.
Excellent content!!!
What is the tool you had for your hand callouses? Great video
Thank you it’s called a bloqaid
I walk 10000 everyday love it 😊
Taking 100 minutes to walk 5 miles? That is a REALLY slow pace. LOL My normal walking pace is around 4.5mph. So I can easily hit 10K steps in 65 min or so. On average I'll walk between 20-30K steps daily on top of whatever formal workouts I do. Not only is it such an EASY way to stay lean, but it is great for general health and mood.
Great video! Which website did you use for your profile? Thanks.
What's the website you used to figure the calories burned?
10,000 steps a day was the marketing slogan of a Japanese pedometer maker during the Tokyo olympics. It has no scientific basis.
If it comes in a packet or a tin don't ever eat it
unless it's beer
tuna?
Check out dr Jason Fung on calories in calories out, the sports scientist Prof Tim Noakes and Thomas DeLauer!
Too many carbs in that ready meal you had! 😱
I take 1500+ to 20000 steps or more everyday. I have 2 sets of twins, 3 dogs, work and a husband. My Nordic Track bike and treadmill, Boxing or Kick Boxing, and 300 to 500 jump rope, are how I get my steps in a day
Hi! What's the URL where you calculated calories?
It's best to get most of your exercise in after you wake up from sleeping because this is when your blood sugar will be at its lowest and you will burn more fat. Thirty minutes after your walk/ run. yku eat a healthy meal to raise your sugar for more energy. 10k or 5 miles walked/run a day can be done threwout the day.
I work front of house in a hotel and do 10 K before lunchtime . On an average day in summer I can do 23 K steps plus 40 stair reps
You're a beast!
What website are you using? 😊
What's the link to the calorie counter?
awesomesupplements.co.uk/calorie-calculator/
Human beings were made to walk. It’s the most natural exercise for us to keep fit, and it’s free.
Spoiler hell yes it does!
Since I do pokemon go I become easily to 10000 steps
Is the health app on iPhone good that’s what I’m using
Doing it for more than 55 days in a row now and only lost 2-3kg. But I think my legs are getting harder and a bit bigger. But I have still too much weight (1,83m, 95kg) but it won’t drop 🥺
What is the watch you to track your step
A part of Brad Pitt's program to get lean for Fight Club was walking everyday, if you seen the movie you know it works!
Excellent videos

In a word no probably If you walk slowly. Mine is 4kph 5k limit in country due to covid 19. I consider 1200 the max i should eat ive a very small and short build i gained 4 pounds in 2 weeks and disgusted. Ive a form of dwarfism. Bones did not develop. It affects how i walk and some are far too narrow its manageable but hard at times. Mainly ribs and wrusts stopped growing. Diagnosed in 2015 every pound shows snd affects mobility. Nowhere for it to go. I need max 1400 for 101 pounds ideally need to be 94. This would be too light for most. Who knows how much i need im sure id need another 200 on my tdee.
Great video I love coffee nice 👍
10, 000 step= 500 cal.
