UHS-I is the bus speed, for the UHS-I bus speed you can have U1 and U3 class speeds. Official cards are UHS-I U3.
The SanDisk Extreme Pro tested is an UHS-II card so you will never be able to take advantage of that bus speed on the Switch.
Thanks for the clarification!

Oh no, your... your kickstand came off, that’s... how did you manage that...
theyre designed to do that instead of snap off.
this is good design considering its a kickstand, better it just pop off than break during normal use.
the problem is that for a lot of people the kickstand will tend to just come off all the time after a while of use.

Bytes vs bits. Important distinction to not get messed up when talking speeds. To clarify, MB/s is MegaBytes and Mbps is Megabits. There are 8 bits in a Byte which means that 30MB/s is equivalent to 240Mbps
A quick summation is MB = megabytes and Mb = megabit.
I love how it takes a youtuber to figure out the specs and effectiveness of these things. Thank you for your service.
A simple 64GB SD card is good enough for me, since I mostly buy physical games, and I'm the type of person who prefers the quality over quantity of games. Unlike a good friend of mine who owns over 600 Xbox games but only plays like...1 game lol.
Lol. Me too I'm a physical typa guy
@@p3ter408 Yeah buddy! Plus I like the experience of taking a drive to my local store and purchasing the game there. Sure more people these days are favoring purchases through e-shop, but I still prefer the old-fashioned way. Heck, I still blow on cartridges and clean my CDs to this day, lol.😃✌

i got a nintendo sd card off amazon for 128 gb for 26 dollars. it is a great purchase and i love it. i needed more storage.
Thanks!!! Big Help trying to figure this out!!!
Thank you so much for the video. Cheers!
MB is megabyte, Bob. Mb is megabit :P 100 Mb is 12.5 MB, which would be very slow.
The video is really missinformed, he assumed that games used full 95MB/s speed, he does not even mention random speed.
In short a sequence is when you are reading one big file size that is when you get the full read speed but games use alot more of random reads that is when a device reads tons of small files, that is when the speed fall.
If people dont understand try to trasfare a movie to a sd card, you get full speed and it will be fast but if you try to transfare lots of photos that have the same file size as a movie the speed will fall really bad
so after taking all that into account, which SD card should I buy?
@@demobot
Well if you wanna the best balance of performace and money I say a Samsung evo plus or a Sandisk Ultra
Thanks. So, I can still follow this video's recommendation. I mean, in terms of using it for the switch.

Dude. You have saved me so much time and money. Keep putting together these get, well produced videos. You guys are great.
UHS-I refers to the bus type. It is distinct from the U1/U3 rating. Notice how the "Extreme" card is UHS-II -- you'll notice the difference immediately, as the card will have many more contacts on it -- but both it and your 400gb card carry the "U3" standard.
The Switch doesn't support UHS-II anyway, so both cards should perform comparably. (The specs are cross-compatible with each other, you just won't gain any speed using UHS-I in UHS-II, and you'll lose speed using UHS-II in UHS-I.
SD card speed ratings are a fucking mess.
Thanks alot bro. Usefull info

I came for SD cards, but also got a beard joke! Amazing content, I had to pause and give a like before I died laughing!
This is something I've been looking into a bunch recently. I did understand that read speed > write speed for Switch considerations but didn't think that the switch had a limited capacity for UHS 2/3. SUPER useful to know, thanks Wulff! Hey man, love your channel content, this video actually help me on deciding the Sd card for my Nintendo Switch Lite.
Keep it up, cheers from Honduras!
Very useful, thanks man!
The one thing I would look for, especially if you are concerned with losing your game library if your SD card fails, is try and find a card in your price range with the most rated read/write operational lifetime. This usually means more expensive vs a similar sized normal SD card, but it's cheap insurance if you have no backup. The SanDisk Extreme has something like double the read/write lifespan than the Ultra.
do SD cards usually just fail to the point where the files are irretrievable? also where did you get this info and how long would these cards practically last for?
@@Sepear305 SD cards have a lifespan too.
I think if you use it just for a phone,it would last 10 years of reading/writing.
Idk how long it would last on switch which uses the SD card everytime.
or just copy the files to your pc?
But we all have our games in the eshop in case we want to dowmload them again. Right?
@@mrkakotube exactly
Wulff, the speed class (u with the 1 or 3 in it) the minimum write speed, thats different from the uhs-1 and uhs-2. Uhs-2 cards actually have another physical row of contacts on the back of the card instead of just the 1 row like normal cards. They recommend the uhs-1 cuz the switch lacks the pins internally to use those extra data channels of the uhs-2 cards. That minimum write speed bit is a totally separate thing, and will also be found on both style cards.
Really helpful! Thank u very much
Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for.

It's interesting being recommended videos like this years after they were uploaded. It's been almost 3 years, and now you can find 512 GB cards for $40-50 during sales. Storage has gotten so much cheaper.
It's crazy how fast technology upgrades. 2 years ago a 200gb 90mb/second SD card costed $72.99. Today I bought a 256gb 100mb/seclbd SD card for $25.

The price of micro SD cards dropped a lot when compared to 4 years ago. I bought recently a 512GB nearly the same price as a 200GB from 4 years ago, and I believe that 200GB and 400GB are no longer being produced.

A very useful guide, thank you!! Now I need to decide between the 200gb or the 128gb ones, since I go half digital and half physical.
Yeah 200gb's is definitely the best price/storage ratio for most people
Even if you buy mostly digital. most Switch games are usually sub 10gb, Bigger titles are ~15-20gb and the biggest are ~30gb so 200gb will last ya for most games

Hey, Bob! Yes, thank you for asking. I recently upgraded my SD card on my Switch from 64 to 128. I should be fine for a couple of years. I mostly buy physical games. Great vid, by the way!
I have actually recently needed to get an SD card for my switch. Having gone physical mostly except for some download exclusives. I've finally capped my Switches storage an need to upgrade the space. Thanks for the info and recommendations! I usually go with Kingston SD cards personally. As in the past Sandisk SDs always eventually corrupted for me an I never had my kingstons corrupt. But the last Sandisk SD I used was many years ago. Perhaps they've improved since then. Plus would support ya. So that is a plus.
Very good piece of advice. Thank you!

Just as my 64GB SD card on my Switch got corrupted you upload this video. Just wonderful 💁🏾♀️
Justin C Probably a Lexar one lol
Those are megaBYTES per second not megabits MB/s vs Mbps 3:54
I was going to say the same thing, and many people don't even realize it isn't the same.
95 Megabits is 11.875 MegaBytes. You take WHATEVER the Megabits or Gigabits number is, and divide by 8 since there are 8 bits in 1 Byte.
Bytes is written with a CAPITAL letter, while bits is written in lowercase (so you can tell very quickly).
95 MegaBytes is 760 Megabits since you multiple it by 8.
And to further help people, it isn't truly 1GB, it's 1,024 MB which = 1 GB. Most always leave those extra numbers off.
As always, i appreciate the honest review from you. Keep up the great content!
Wow! This is very informative. Thank you very much!

Thank you so much for helping me and other people here, I had alot of questions with what type of SD card to get but now I am clear with the most optimum/worth it card.
My question is do the SD Cards wear down over time till they die, or can I trust that they will run seemingly forever like a physical copy of a game would(given you take proper care of it of coure... )
That's a good question.
Some microSD cards have 10+ years or even lifetime warranty. Those are the ones you should buy and will last you forever. Some orhers are low quality and are not that reliable.
They have a limit to the number of read/write cycles albeit quite a large number. So yes they do ware down over time but that'll take a decade at least.😉
