- Games are expensive and more and more NEW games are getting more expensive...
But the great equalizer is of course, older titles at a cheaper price.

I have 3 1TB SD cards I use as "game cards". Pro Tip: Create a collection for games installed to a specific SD card for easier organization. I have AAA games on one card, indies on another, another card for series like DMC and yakuza. It's really great. Just remember to eject your SD Card in storage settings before taking it out or else it will corrupt your SD card.
Dude, I do the same thing in treating my 1TB MicroSD cards like game carts. Although I do mine by "Publisher", so I have a Capcom card, EA card, Ubisoft card, etc. I've heavily invested in a large amount too thanks to BANDC slim MicroSD card holder. You can do the math with that one, I'd rather not, although I've had some great Amazon Prime sales luck ($50 - $60).
Given how expensive MicroSD cards are, and how far they are from the advertised performance, and the presence of fake cards on the market, I think you are better off upgrading your SSD.
Great informative video thank you! Quick question, is there a big difference in download speeds between the ultra and extreme or is it not noticeable? Theres a good deal where i live on the 1.5tb but on fence if its a lot slower compared to 1tb extreme. Thanks!
I was about to buy the steam deck
And this video really helped thanks
I think there was a steam deck update that deletes the shader cache when you delete that game. So shader cache is really no longer an issue.
ive been using the same SD card for about 18 months now and its worked perfectly and honestly i cant tell any difference between it and the SSD
Part of it is that a lot of the important stuff like shader cache and compatibility data is stored on the SSD regardless of where you install your game.
@@HiTechLoLife So if i leave the SSD just for shader cache is fine? How much space can shader cache take?
Depends on the game. Bigger games have larger shader caches.
Linux file system for windows by paragon software lets you read a stem deck formatted sd card on windows
So to play something like Elden Ring or RDR 2 a Micro SD would work fine and load fairly fast if shadercache is installed in the original Steam Deck SSD?
Shader cache mostly benefits actual game performance.
Load times from a MicroSD card will still be slower than using your internal SSD but in my experience load times from MicroSD isn't too bad.
Major AAA titles will of course load a LOT faster from an SSD.
Just got my SD a couple days ago. How well does the SD work while hot swapping the sd cards?
Valve recommends rebooting every time you swap cards but in my experience you can hot swap just fine.
Just don't do it while you're in game
I only put my emulator games on my SD card.
What about a SDcard with reading speed about 50-60mb/s ? would that really affect performance in game?
Definitely affects load times. Most of the recommended SD cards easily hit the UHS-I writing/reading limits.
I have zero confidence in the robustness and longevity of these things for long term storage.
I have High friends in Low places !
Drink every time he says “micro as card”.
LMAO, look at this man's hands
the soy boy epidemic is real.
