@PD893 There is actually a hole on the dizi covered by a membrane called the dimo. The dimo can be a layer of a variety of things; however, I usually use paste rice paper or tape to cover the hole. With rice paper it alters the sound, creating a buzz in the flute's sound. (First piece/song in the video) If covered by tape, there will be no buzz. (Second piece/song in the video)
I love The Moon Represents My Heart it is one of my favorite songs.I have never heart it played on a dizi before.I have been trying to decide which key of flute to buy. The G sounds perfect.
hello, thanks for posting this vid,...i noticed that there is different between and ordinary bamboo flute n chinese flute's tone....chinese flute has this kind of buzzing sound..can u help me to how to distinguish between this 2 kind type flute...?
What is the price range for a beginner model of this size of dizi? i'm interested in buying one and I like the tone of this one the best... also being a metal flute player, i would imagine it easier to get good tone with the lower keyed ones..
Thanks for posting, this range chart is very helpful. I'm a little confused though. Where it lists the ranges starting at 0:13, shouldn't the Bb Key Da Di go up to a Bb 5 (not Bb6)? And also shouldn't the G Key Da Di go down to a D3 (not D2), and the F Key Da Di go down to C3 (not C2)? I.e., they all have a range of roughly 2.5 octaves? As written, it shows some having a 3.5 octave range.
I don't know for certain but I think OP made some typos when writing the Professional Ranges section. All dizi appear to have a range of 29 semitones, that is from a perfect 4th below the tonal center up to two octaves above the tonal center, or approximately 2.5 octaves as you said. There's no way a flute that's only centimeters different in size (as seen from the graphic at 0:05) could reach that much lower (C2?!). I'm gonna just go ahead and guess that the Da Di's work the same way as all the other Dizi and say the ranges should be F3-Bb5, E3-A5, D3-G5, and C3-F5.
thank you very much.. great job of "The Moon Represents My Heart" By Deng Li Jun I started hearing u play it and im like i know that song i miss her :(
I bought two dizis in China. In a lot of tutorials I see that dizis can have a range of two octaves. Mine seem to have only one octave. Is this normal?
These flutes sound very interesting in terms of wave shapes of sound. Since i am interested in synthesizers which use sampled waveforms from analog vintage synths or newly generated synth wave froms, are being used by looping them, these flutes use kind of square wave shapes modified by saw waves. New Korg synth family has such wave forms which are pure wave forms wthout any sampling done on them, actually can mimic the feel and touche of these instruments. these are not smaples from actual insturments. Also i wonder what gives the different tone on higher pitches compared to lowest keys. May be the wood it self. In Turkish traditional music there is an instrument called NEY, and sound alike on bass notes, but stays similar to its bass notes when it is played on higer notes. Search for it you may like its feeling. ua-cam.com/video/2RgqxwVfJcI/v-deo.html An example of a very calm one.
Thanks, watching this and now that I have a dizi I understand the difference that a real dimo makes to the sound. What a versatile instrument!
