- Showing you the difference between dizi and xiao (Chinese flutes). Both of them can be made of wood, bamboo and other materials, but the way how they work is what make them different. Dizi and Xiao are both fun musical instruments to play with, but if you are just starting to learn these things, you might have a hard time blowing the first note!

I was so confused and frustrated about exactly this topic, you're a lifesaver! Thank you so much!
That was really helpful. I was deciding which one to try first!
Love Japanese...I had a japanese and chinese friend long time...ago. They went for life in USA. Yeah nice people good food grate talking.
Thank you so much brother. After listening to Tails of Angel I want to get a Chinese flute for myself and now I know I was looking for Xiao.
I just realize this may be the first time I leave comment on your video after I've been watching soooo many videos from you... Anyway, 好正! Thanks!
i had fun watching this video, and also learned a lot! thank you for sharing~ i know a lot more now 😊💖
thank you for a great explanation. I play NAF and I think I'll get both of these after your video
Very good teacher. He explained it all very well.
Mr. Mak, you have the most stuff. I keep learning about new stuff you have :)
Mate you're the most asian guy i know on youtube haha I mean EVERYTHING you mostly do is Asian related! which is cool :)
LOL! Well I am Asian, HAHAHA! Don't forget to LIKE and sub!
LOLL

Thank you. You taught me so much.

DIZI = TEK!!

thank you so much, even I am Chinese, I mix up 笛 and 簫。
Hey bro you are awesome....
Do you recommend to buy Dizi TOMTOP add in your channel, the key D or Key C, I'm 21 yr....
This is so amazing, I have seen these videos a long time ago, now I am going back to learning Dizi with my other traditional instruments. I am glad the basics are still here! Thank you very much! #ekozither
Hey! I've recently gained interest in flutes, and I'm curious how you were able to buy the Dizi? Is there a website you can recommend?
@@tanyauberoi6342 I mean, you can get some pretty decent ones on Amazon to start off
HI! I watched all your videos about playing Xiao, but my Xiao has 12 holes (9 from front side), I play it vertically, but could you suggest some tutorial to play it horizontally? (I guess those holes are for that or should I cover them with membranes)?
Hello. I have a question. I am playing clarinet, which one do you think easier for me to learn by myself, and which key should I use?
I would love to buy a xiao flute. What maker would you recommend for a beginner?
very informative videos, love the American/Canadian accent? ;)
Could you compare the Chinese Xiao and Western Recorder?
Can anybody share an online website (that hopefully delivers internationally) from where one can buy a Dizi ?
Can you go over different keys of the xiao?
Is there a flute similar to the dizi but smaller? From the pictures I've seen I thought it was alot smaller.
Thank you for this information! 🙂
I love the sound of the Xiao flute.
Do you know where I can find sheet music for my Xiao flute?
I am also learning xiao. Here is a site with some music in western format: www.goamcan.com/lessons/Xiao-02.html
Boss where can I buy these flutes? The same flutes u are using for this video? I am from India. Please help
Are those guns above the keyboard?
What key is most Chinese music in?
Can i play the same music with both? For example if i wanted to play a song like "Wizard of Oz" by Chen Yue which was played with a Xiao, can i also play it with a Dizi?
I know i'm too late but, he says in the video that the fingering is the same so it wouldn't be much different
Sorry for replying too late too. But, it's wrong, the fingering is totally different. A xiao requires 6, 7, 8 or 9 fingers to play (usually ppl play the 8-hole ones, the Vietnamese ppl even create the 10-hole xiao, the 11-hole xiao and the 12-hole xiao which are much more difficult to play). A dizi requires only 6 or 10 fingers.
Here are some pictures to demonstrate my point:

Ohhh, thanks a lot!!! Now, I know ;-)
Many youtube channels have chinese flute versions of "fly me to polaris" but soprano flute...
Right on. Thank you. (Buddha Salutation)
good to know the difference between the two instruments as they sound nearly alike.. haha
Xiao always reminds me of Huang Yao Shi.
Wow you know Hunag Yao Shi? Impressive!
Nice :D
amir sabbagh Thank you!
As a western man : We could play the beer bottle
I have a Chinese flute bamboo but my mouth piece is very different then yours. Can you help me identify it? It is 3 different pieces. The blow hole is in a metal section and the hole is more of a slit and not a hole. On the other piece there is a fancy chunk that I think is what causes the sound.
I think you get or bought flute called " Bawu" its a bit rare but not immposible get it or buy search over net or Google
Where would you recommend buying a dizi from and what keys like g,e or f?
😀
What is the difference between the 8 hole XIAO and the Recorder.
The recorder has a mouthpiece that is placed inside of the lips and is very easy to get a sound out of. The Siu/Xiao has a slotted opening that requires air flow to hit the opening at a specific angle in order to create sound.
Hello, which one would you say is easier especially for a beginner?
Kevin Moras it really depends on the person, some prefers this and some prefers that. Best to try it out yourself instead.
I play the tin whistle so I guess I would get used to xiao more. Thanks
How's your practice? Xiao is the most difficult one to play and you chose it. I'm impressed, tin flute is nothing comparing to dizi or even xiao lmao =)) wish u the best
IT most certainly comes in different sizes 🤣
Do you know of anywhere to get a bass dizi?
😀
The second flute looks like a Serbian duduk and that is what i play
Your accent is like jackie chan.
