      My 5yr old just made the team and swimming breaststroke - however she figured it out - and looks interesting. Super cute, but you know... 🤔 according to her coach she is swimming "just like a six year old would". Ok... I don't really buy that...? Basic habits can stick to you and can be hard to break. As she grows and gets stronger and body shape changes I'm sure there will be changes that may need to be made - some natural, some may need more focused effort... but some basic muscle memory building can happen on dryland I believe if need be, especially if the coaches are not willing to be hands on in the pool - of course to the extent she's interested in doing at this age - but feeding knowledge and the opportunity to learn is important. I think just showing her this video just to visualize what SHOULD happen already is a great start. So thank you for the video!! I love the break down of it and visual in different angles!! 👍👍

    I did it, finally managed to swim proper breastroke after trying for ages. Now it feels like I can go on forever without tiring. What I'd say to anyone trying to learn this is keep going, eventually you'll get it. What made it click for me is realizing it's all about feeling the glide, everything else seemed to fall into place after that.

    • @bataa120
      @bataa120 6 місяців тому

      for gliding, flowing near water surface is key. but to be near surface, you need flexible lower hips not to drop during pull. i think you have flexible body.

    Thank you for this video. I started swimming regularly again after decades of only very casual times in the water & not regularly at that. Breaststroke is where I'm focusing due to injuries & 2 cervical fusions. I found I couldn't remember any good mechanics on the kick & had no power. I was always a freestyle swimmer when I did compete all those years ago & breaststroke was definitely not a strong style for me back then.
    I watched a bunch of videos, but yours is the 1st to really break it down in a view & way that I can visually process. I also appreciate the floor exercises demonstrated to help me work on this.

    As a beginner swimmer, after watching this video and a bunch of Michael Phelps' video, I was still a bit confused as to the timing. What worked for me is to look at the arm/chest and thigh/leg as two separate motions. You pull, breathe, straighten your arms, then on your way down you start to kick and glide. Then there's a split second when your entire body is entirely straight, then you repeat again. I find that looking at the upper body and lower body as two independent set of events helps a lot.

    • @Falcode101
      @Falcode101 2 роки тому +3

      Do you start to engage your legs, pulling your ankles up, when you breathe? I’m also a beginner and I’m struggling with the timing.

    • @sashkad9246
      @sashkad9246 2 роки тому

      @@Falcode101 for me it is after I've breathed in, after my head is already under the water. It is naturally easier that way because you don't have the resistance on the surface of the water.

    Why has no one ever given me good instruction on how to swim properly, even when I was in a club? Society in general does everything wrong that you can do wrong, even outside of swimming in so many aspects of life, which means I can only learn through constant trial and error and watching youtube videos of ever-increasing quality. Like the videos on this channel.
