Your analysis is always so helpful! But here you're analyzing the best breaststoke specialist ever. Ever. And I think your theory needs to be updated based on the scientific fact that Peaty is the best ever. Specifically, his low head position. I suspect (and I'm an engineer), that his low head position is lower drag! There's less of a chin-gap, and the water will flow smoothly over the top of his head and his neck. Really brilliant. Then, him holding his hands slightly off his body. It seems less streamlined, but I'm not so sure. Aligators swim like that, where it would be easy for them to clasp their hands to their sides. One thing to think about: on aircraft, they often put tabs sticking out on the wings. Those should cause much more drag! But they don't. They are called "vortex generators," and they make little tonadoes that actually reduce overall drag. More importantly, they reduce flow separation. So, as your videos so beautifully express, it's not perfectly simple. By the way, I swam in the same swim league as Kaye Hall. Swimming has advanced so very far since then!!
Your analysis and breakdown of his breaststroke helped me. I put this into practice yesterday and finally had a breakthrough - I was able to swim laps of breaststroke for the first time ever! I’m rewatching this to refine my technique. Would love to see one for freestyle.
Every great coach I swam for didn't tell me what I was doing wrong, but how to do it right with mindfulness. Great analysis, Peaty is a beast! Would love to see his dryland routine. Thanks
I think one of the best parts of his technique is the way he attacks the water with his arms. He really allows his head to fit tight into a nice pocket through his arms and cut through the water which allows him to keep his momentum.
Great video as always! As a fellow breastroker, I can really appreciate this. What about some 200m br analysis? Someone like Anton Chupkov or Kirill Prigoda, they both have unique styles(:
About the head position during push-off, he keeps the head a little bit low in order to keep the body underwater. Otherwise, he will float up too fast.
I've started doing triathlons. I can only breaststroke. I've had some input from experienced swimmers/triathletes. This video is useful. I'm now a faster swimmer open water in a wetsuit than in a pool. I will be applying some of this video to my next training swim. Think it will help
Make sure to understand your head is heavy and use it to abuse your center of mass to get a better burst during stream line. This might explain why his head sinks deep. Could be to go further in every stroke
There's nothing to analyze other than the metaphysics. Consider how any amateur can swim with the same technique as Dressel but still remain slower. Swimming is the sport of propulsion from qi -- just because newtonian science hasn't come up with a formal proof doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. It's like saying that Mr. Everest isn't the tallest mountain when Europeans haven't discovered it yet.
@@paulzeng6211 when you said "amateur", doesn't that mean that he/she doesn't have the same strength or physical capabilities as Caeleb? I agree with everything else you said though.
Ryosuke iries backstroke technique slips under the radar and he's crazy - he swam an unofficial world record at 2009 duel in the pool in 1:52, at 5 feet 7 weighing 62 kilos that's insane. trained a lot using water bottles on his head for that one. would be mad for analysis
Ryosuke Irie his backstroke technique is just on point and create little splash also his hand entry is very clean, would love to see ur analyzation on his stroke. and did u check ISL back skins of him and ryan murphy? insane!!!
It would be awesome to have Ian Thorpe’s or PVH’s freestyle even though I’m not sure there are footages with a quality decent enough to get a clear analysis
Amazing analysis, what app are you using on your phone to draw on the video? I am a coach who feels that this would be an effective and engaging way to give my swimmers feedback.
Thanks for yet another very helpful video. I'm a beginning swimmer still (after about a year and in my 60's). I don't like doing the flip and prefer to stop and take a few seconds break. My freestyle is ok and I'm trying to learn the backstroke now. I've hit my head on the wall twice though so I thought I'd ask for your help. Its not pleasant and its pretty embarrassing even. Any tips for someone like me? Much appreciated.
Hi Nathan! Does your pool have backstroke flags? If so, you're going to want to find your "stroke count" between the flags and the wall. If you know how many strokes it takes you, you should be able to stop before hitting your head! Check this video out for more help: fb.watch/6uT-WTNsIh/
Given the shape of the top of the head, perhaps the 90 degree recommended position of his head is not as streamlined as tilting slightly more. A flatter part of his head would be exposed to the water if he was at 90 degree
Surely Peaty's got his head tucked in against his chest to allow a smoother flow along his body,Team GB track and time trial cycling squad spend a lot of time on wind tunnel testing,it wouldn't surprise me to find the swimmers have an equivalent.
I’m new to the channel so maybe it’s already been done. But if not, could you do an analysis of Katinka Housszou “the iron lady”, specifically her backstroke.
I really want to get better at breastroke because I’m really bad. I’ve been watching a lot of vids such as these so I can see how to properly do it cause right now everything is bad.
good evening...., I'm from Indonesia, I want to ask..., to go fast in breaststroke swimming, which is more important between hand movements and foot movements? Thanks.....,
Super je viens de comprendre mon erreur grâce à ta video..les bras sont bien sûr le premier temps mais je n y mets pas la tête or il faut la tête avec les bras puis les jambes !!! Merci
His head angle means his fairly pointy head is more streamlined, you are ignoring the shape of his head when you say he could do better, if you put him in a wind tunnel doing what he does not following your advice it would be come clear.
Which swimmer should we analyze next? Let us know below!
caelebs fly please
Connor Jaeger 1500
Caeleb dressel free
Caeleb dressel freestyle
Thanks for the awesome video. Of course we should see Phelp's butterfly.
I think his kick is the greatest part of his stroke beside timing, its ridiculous hard to keep that kick tempo and power for a race.
he times his kick way before everyone else does. pLus his kick is insanely powerful
His stroke rate is crazy and to be able to keep it up for 200 meters is crazy
Yeah, no joke.

Sometimes, my swim pro mistakens it because of the angle of the camera. You can't just measure the exact position and how they look in just a video

Analyze Rebecca Soni
I want her to be analyzed because of her very weird stroke and to this day I still can't believe she holds the world record!
Great suggestion!
Didn’t she have a tiny sculling arm action?
Yaqoub is learning

Would have been helpful to analyze stroke rate and distance per stroke (vs. the competition). This is what is unusual about Peaty.
