Now do you know why this took a while to make? Anyway, sit back, relax, and enjoy this logo rollercoaster.
Carlton Television (now part of the non-franchised ITV London region) was the ITV franchise holder for London and the surrounding counties from 9.25am every Monday to 5.15pm every Friday.[1] The company is now managed with London Weekend Television as a single entity (ITV London), but the two companies are still separately licensed. The station is owned and operated by ITV plc under the licensee of ITV Broadcasting Limited. Carlton has been branded on air as 'ITV1' since 28 October 2002, and as 'ITV' since 14 January 2013. Carlton legally exists as Carlton Television Ltd currently listed on Companies House as a privately owned company. As Carlton's name has no relation to its region, its on-screen identity has been completely removed (along with those of HTV, LWT and GMTV). Other regions have kept their original company name as a region name and in their local news name.

Thames TV = martyr
Central & Westcountry = victims
Carlton = *MURDERER*
To be fair to Carlton, I liked their incorporation of a diverse, real set of Londoners into their earlier idents. Man there were a lot though! They could have cut some of the less impressive performers.
They also probably did the best job at marrying the identity of their franchise in London with the ITV network - wasn't a fan of subsuming the identity of all the other regions they ended up taking over. The ITV hearts into Carlton star with the smart little ITV logo below the Carlton logo looked much more professional than when the Granada regions all adopted Meridian's font and stuck each regions logo in a box. Also better than the 1989 triangles of mystery.
Central got a taste, and then Carlton ate them, along with westcountry and half of HTV
Although the Town Crier they used for the very first ident wasn't from London.
@@minerbloxer6471I agree, Central had some of the best idents on ITV, and then Carlton blew all of them up. I never watched TV in the uk, btw. I just know this by research
Excellent video! Carlton's logos look so majestic and beautiful.
I have this vague memory of when Carlton ditched Central’s classic in house logos for their own. I was gutted as a kid. Even then being so young I had this feeling that it was an end of an era. Of course I was too young to be able to put that feeling in to words.
The Central-designed idents were stunning for their time, they would still hold up today. It's a shame that Carlton didn't seem to know how to use them; they'd clearly been designed to work like Central's own idents where the announcer is supposed to talk immediately they appear and then conclude the announcement as soon as the logo forms up without there being a specific formup phase and jingle that plays and a holding phase for the announcement. However Carlton seemed uncomfortable with doing that and the end result was they let them play a bit over music that is supposed to be talked over and the announcer ends up talking over silence. You can see in some announcements they tried cutting in earlier but still didn't seem to quite change their presentation style to match the way the idents were supposed to be used. As a result not surprising they didn't last long but it's a shame as they were well made enough to have lasted years.
Some people think 1:01:23 is scary, but I saw it as a kid and it never scared me. I think the fact that it was on my Old Bear videos specifically helped me not be scared by it.
This reminds me of my childhood. Love it
The 1999 Carlton indents look so much cooler than the final ITV 1999 generic idents.
They are creative!
The hearts are also beautiful to look at ... especially the heart strawberry, and also (in my opinion) this intro with this beautiful purple color and music at 46:00 💜💙
People are mostly here for this: 42:28
34:25 is now my new favorite ident. Why?
1 - it's simple, but not so much so
2 - the O is spinning and flashing like a police beacon
3 - police radio chatter and dramatic music
That was amazing!
Gosh I remember so many of these, the guys juggling and some of the others, it's crazy to think the children in these idents have probably got children of their own now, some maybe even grand parents lol

Announcer: In just over 25 minutes, animated fun with Speedy Gonzales, first, more cartoon chaos with "Police Academy".
That is the most beautiful logo that I have ever seen, Carlton is the most heartwarming, inspirational, and very classical music's that has ever made.💯💯💯🌟🌟🌟⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️✨️✨️🏅🏅🏅👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🎶🎶🎶

I find this relaxing lol
Glad you enjoy it lol
So do I! :)
26:36 My favourite of them all since it involves where I’m from. Some people like to point out something on TV because of that reason.
Same, my town is on that one

Hassan El Safty, Arsenal supporter - Islington: *This is Carlton!*
Announcer: Now, new for Wednesday night, the 1st of 4 programmes with Saints, Griezy & a panel of top sports personalities.
Knowing how some people feel about Carlton, there was a spoof that had the Carlton logo disassembling and momentarily spelling out "evil" for a split second. Not sure where it is now, but I had seen it. It's hilarious.
Showing of its true colors.
IT WAS NOT CARLTON’S FAULT THAT ITV STOPPED HAVING REGIONAL NETWORKS, IT WAS THE BROADCASTING ACT OF 1990, WHICH ALLOWED TAKEOVERS WITHIN THE ITV NETWORK
Yep, Carlton and Granada just used it to their full advantage
the 1993 ident piano notes are "D G A, D G D G C"
May 1999:all regional ITV channels logos are abandoned and become part of Carlton
2005:Carlton television is rebranded as ITV1
ITV1 was originally a channel network,then a TV channel
11:04
Ken Johnson, Viking Society - Islington: *YOU'RE WATCHING CONAN!*
Announcer: At 10.40, our romantic thriller stars Gregory Harrison & Sybil Shepard in "Seduced", now the "News@10" with Trevor McDonald.
Carlton - "should NEVER have been part of the ITV Network". Thames were shafted.
I hated Carlton too
It was the Broadcasting act of 1990, which allowed takeovers within the ITV network
@@rtcp2020 Carlton were brand new - so Thames (the previous holder pre-1993) were NOT taken over. Of the new franchise holders across the network, only Meridian (as much as I loved TVS) actually did a decent job
@@markc8956 i honestly think post-1998 GMTV was pretty good
Agreed! Carlton was boring.
46:00 is my favorite part so far
1993. The year when us Londoners heard that famous line "You're watching Carlton. Television for London".
Carlton was the first ever regional ITV station to feature members of the public in their idents. Genius idea or what?
It's a regular thing to see nowadays on most terrestrial and cable channels.
RIP THAMES
Nope
Not dissimilar from the BBC1 idents now.
Carlton also reunited ITV which I personally think was a stupid idea because now we dont get Regional News and Identities anymore but luckily ThamesTV made their official Archive
@@robloxtvTVR we do get regional news. Three at weekdays and once or twice at weekends as ITV News London.
There's also a local current affairs programme which comes on a Thursday night once a month. And that's it as far as regional ITV is concerned.
Carlton's early idents were good, and boy do i mean really good.
Amazing video!
You are so kind
Carlton: Would you make me a sandwich
ITV plc: NO
I was wondering if we found a video footage of a prototype Carlton Television logo from 1991 by 2026?
I think I'm the only one who really likes all 4 sets of Carlton idents...
49:01 this looks a little similar to BSB the sports channel
Didn't realize Redhill (Surrey) and some parts of Kent such as Swanley, Dartford & Otford came under the carlton region 26:35 - 27:00 thought they would have been under the Meridian region
13:30 Wantage? That's over 40 miles from London and served by Meridian or Central South.
Does Carlton still exist if not then how long did it last for
It existed independently until 2002, when it was integrated into non-franchised ITV London with longtime weekend franchise holder LWT.
they are gone for good!!! ha ha
42:28: this is my favourite
31:12 is ny fav of ALL TIME!
Is anyone able to pinpoint the music used in the Central-designed idents? I think the music sounds like it belongs in a movie but I couldn't really find info on the music. If I could get my hands on a clean copy of the music that would be nice.
4:25 "So, no news there." Not surprising, since The Young Doctors is pretty much the textbook definition of "soap opera". Pretty much Grey's Anatomy (here in the Americas) before Grey's Anatomy.
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
15:22 where the 'kinghell did you get that one?
"You're watching, Carton."
Carlton’s idents from 1993 are ahead of their time actually.
Can You give me The Link To The Logo At 00:49:32?
I'm not from London, but I love this video
Thanks mate! Where you from then?
@@JontyMaster just outside Birmingham. :)
@@tamaraS945 The 1999 look existed in the Midlands and Westcountry.
@@brandongill2577 I know. We didn’t have Carlton until 1999, though. (I’m from the West Midlands, so we had Central)

Unfortunately not anymore :(
Sorry, but they never close to that impressive Thames Television ident that ran in 1991/92.
MURDERER!
I just never could stand the name. It's too, I don't know, provincial/naff for a major TV station. A bit like, say, "Smith", or "Thomson". That doesn't make me want to watch TV it makes me think of a local corner shop. It's bad branding.

HTV (Harlech), heartbroken

@WRCSeb I meant those LITERALLY.

What about tvs and tsw?
Carlton sucks!!! it was horrible because it killed thames, central and westcountry
