Here today after it was announced CITV is closing down. CITV brought us so many iconic programmes and presenters over it's 40 year existence, and whilst the channel is arguably a shell of it's former self these days, it is still sad to see the brand disappear.
Happy 40th anniversary to one of the best British childrens television channels of all time. The late 90s to early 2000s ident will always be my favourite.
I'm putting this here on the final day of Children's Independent Television (CITV). I may be Canadian, but I know how much Britain will be saddened when CITV closes down for the last time tonight in about 3-4 hours.
Great tribute here, with some fantastic clean idents. I feel like many people tend to overlook how creative the 1993 era of CITV was in regards to the characters and animations in the idents and the excellent effort put in by Steve Ryde, and at 5 years it didn't overstay it's welcome. That and the 1998 era which followed it are my two favourite eras of CITV. The 1998 era was a great follow up, it was very lively and energetic. Not to mention there was new shows in the first months of that era which helped to reinforce that energy, such as SM:TV Live & Mad For It.
RIP CITV! You gave us Matthew Kelly, Carol Vorderman, Chris Jarvis, Michael Underwood, Arthur Darvil, Stephen Mulhurn, Danielle Nicholls, Cat Deeley, Fearne Cotton, Holly Willoughby and Andy Collins. These presenters are BELOVED and MADE the channel what it is. We cannot forget shows like Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids, Mona the Vampire, My Parents Are Aliens, Jungle Run, Art Attack and many other absolute bangers. You'll all live on forever!
I really can't believe there aren't many UK kid channels anymore which is crazy first Pop Girls removed then Kix, and now CITV channel is gone forever, why are they doing this because if they keep removing kids channel then there won't be any past cartoons/anime on freeview freesat to watched. What has happen to the old days when there are more cartoons to watched on the weekend just like in the 90s/ 2000.
Happy 40 CITV. Shame there is no old skool weekend. CITV will always stand out to me because the presenters had a lot more fun than CBBC. It might have only been on 12 hrs a week in its heyday but it really stood out.
The channel is just boring now it just go to show we're living in the dark ages of television if they could celebrate ten years ago when people like myself were younger why not today or this weekend

Fantastic compilation. I really wish ITV actually did something for their 40th, which makes me wish I didn’t cancel the video I had planned for today. (I wasn’t happy with it.) There were so many possibilities. - Multi-part documentary - Another Old Skool Weekend - Content drop/Fast Channel on ITVX But, seems that it wasn’t to be, since the CITV channel is on auto-pilot, nowadays.
@@QueenofVHS I think I'll restart production on it, since I still want to talk about it. (and other TV shows/pres/ads I obsess over.) Note to self: Don't make personal schedules & focus on the quality. :)
Strange, I seem to remember them celebrating a 40th anniversary in the '90s as well, possibly ITV as a whole, but CITV definitely counted itself as part of it
Yeah it was ITV was 40 and it was somewhat classed of '40 years of children's programmes on ITV'. The Children's ITV/CITV brand didn't start until 1983.
Yeah the original 40th anniversary of Children's programmes on ITV was celebrated in 1995 with a week long takeover of the afternoon strand by the Goggle family. Nana Goggle was the late Hilda Braid, best remembered as Nana Moon in Eastenders. Dad Goggle had an almanach of everything for children that had ever aired on ITV, and was obsessed with adding any new information that he learned from the various guests from ITV's children's programming that turned up at their house. And the original daughter in the Goggle family was played by the late Laura Sadler, better remembered for being Judy Jefferies in Grange Hill, although Laura was replaced (proibably busy making other shows) by the time they brought the family back for some further series of shows.
Now it’s it 40th I lost cos I tought before the 40 I find citv pre school and Rosie and Jim advert in early 1998 I try everything but nothing I feel like a loser 😢
