BMW F650GS LAMS Adventure / Dual Sport Bike | First Ride & Review On and Off Road

- I ride and review +jeff taswelder 's 2009 BMW F650GS Single Cylinder Dual Spark, Dual Sport or light weight adventure bike both on and off road. Its a fantastic bike for shorter riders with heaps of torque. A perfect bike for long distance travel and light to medium off road work but is fairly heavy for its size.

awesome review.
You've sold me.
Exactly what I needed to see.
Thankyou n ride safe bro.
Thanks mate, it was a great bike!
Enjoyed the review. I just bought a G650GS after deliberating between that and a Duke 690 believe it or not (and even toying with the idea of a DR650). I think the old F650GS/G650GS is a superbly easy bike to ride around tight twisties and it is nice to have the option of dual-sport. Once you leave your ego at home you realise this bike can hoon plenty fast on the tarmac and the ergos and low centre of gravity make it so relaxed and easy to ride fast. I am used to doing 500k Sunday runs and whilst the sportsbike guys I might overtake in the tight twisties are coming in for a break before they go home, I am heading out for another 5 hours of fun....Sure there are faster guys out there (there always are) and more power is always nice, but I have definitely learnt over the years it's not what you ride but how you ride it ....and some bikes allow you to jump up instantly into an area of confidence and control that allows you to get the most out of the machine.
I'm glad I had a G650GS as a loaner for 3 days to really get a feel for it. Had I had a Duke 690 for 3 days I might have loved that instead but in the end I favoured a superbly compliant ride to handle nadgery back roads the sports bikes stay away from and thus the police don't patrol....and a 19inch wheel for some dual-sportness. Coincidentally I move to Tassie soon so will be lapping up those twisties for sure!
+Lee Court glad mate you enjoyed the review. The f650gs was excellent on road and suprised me how much go it had and how fun it was on road. With road tyres it would be a weapon! The dual sport ability was great and you will be loving it when you get to tasmania and its ability to go anywhere. All in all it was a great bike loved it. Im also a fan of the dukes!!! Thanks mate take care!
Best review of this bike I've seen.
You have sold me one.!
Thanks mate! I was pretty impressed by it!
Oi get off my bike! 😂 Great review mate. I miss riding it already. It's a beast, and not too shabby to look at either.
+Phat Cruiser haha its an allround beast I was soo impressed with it. You rode it like a pro! :D
Great review! As my first bike, I've owned a F650GS 07 for a few months and I'm loving it. I've made a few mods which have made a big difference, VStream screen, GPR exhaust, LED lighting all round and USB charge port. I'd recommend all of these particularly the exhaust, the sound is so much better.
Blooskyy was a great bike! i was really impressed with it! Good luck with yours mate!
that's a really good review. I got a F650gs 2004 - done 94 000km on her and probably will do another 94 000 km - engine never been opened. excellent bike for me (only got one arm)
Thanks mate i was really impressed with it when i rode it. Im 165cm and could easily ride it. 94k is a good run in its own right hope you get tens of thousands more on it. Take care mate and awesome to hear its a great bike and keeps you on the road riding!
I enjoyed your journey very much. I have the same bike forv 5 months now. I live 17 km from a small coastal town and use the bike often. Bordering our small farm is a sand road that apparently runs for 60 plus kilometres . I'm soon to ride it.
Fantastic bike, heavier than what I'm used to, well balanced on the road and off road.
Skidded once on tar, don't have the abs add on installed.
It's more a road bike with dirt capabilities. I don't wheelie anymore so the bikes perfect.

It was a great bike to ride and agree its a road bike with dirt capabilities! Enjoyed the day i spent on it! 😀

Great Video, Subscribed. Happy to see you are enjoying your new Bike. I’m going to be Trading my 2006 R1200GS for a 2011 F650GS with the 2 Cylinder 800cc Engine. I’m 62 now with a bad Back, and I need something Lighter and Smaller. I’ve been watching all the Videos I can find about them. This was a good Video, Thanks
It was a great bike!
i had the earlier funduro was a great bike I owned a dr a few years later the dr was more the big trail bike the BMW more road ish with a dash off dirt chucked in
I've heard good things about the funduro! This was a nice bike
Great review...I am considering buying one and you hit all the points I was wondering about. What type of highway cruising speed?
Thanks mate, it was easily cruising along at 120 on the roads i took it on. Was a gem of a bike!
Great video :)
What do you think about the low ground clearance (190mm)? Is it high enough for offroad or is it too low ?
Cheers
Thanks! Imo yes it's fine, the owner could do some pretty cool stuff on it!
Thank you.
You're welcome!
"Get myself a soya frappe latte with a valium and whipped shot!" LMAO!!! The only thing that puts me off the probability of owning one of these is the association (no offence) XD
Regardless, according to your review it sounds exactly what I'm looking for in a Dual Sport. Predictable, low centre of gravity, ABS, low down torque. Not sure about the vibey feels though. Any idea what the possibilities and costs of self maintenance of this unit?
I dont mate sorry not my bike, it's a friends and has sold it since I made the video. 👍👍 cheers
Haha , that was a good review , :)

I’m a boy and I ride a 650gs does this make me a transgender?
I was pretty impressed with that bike! I was a fun day I had it for!
It takes a real man to admit this.
No cervix ,Your sound! as they say in Manchester
Just in case it offended It was only a joke
You should have mentioned that the cap on the usual tank area for the petrol is actually the oil fill reservoir. Soooooo if you're a stoner stick a note there so you don't put gas in it lol. Duh.
hahaha forgot to do the doughnuts and the Wheelies
+lazy boy Rider lol did I !!!!! 😉
+iRide tas ooooh you bad man XD
+lazy boy Rider 😂😂
I'm 6 foot tall. Would that be an issue with this bike? Been offered one cheap in good condition too.
Not at all, but you will need to throw a leg over it to see!
I thought these bikes have ABS, how could you skid the back tire?
+rtitusz its a good point mate!! Jeff has abs was turned off cause we had spent the previous two days off road and we hadnt re engaged it. It wasnt my bike I was riding it as lent to me! Cheers 😆
iRide tas I thought that might be the case! Thanks for clearing that up!
