    This procedure is described in the owner's manual for G650gs.. When I start, hands off the throttle, count 1-2-3 holding down the starter button, then release. Idle should be 1500. If it is, you're good. Note the idle will be higher 1750 if you skip the 123...and then you know you did it wrong.

    Thanx a lot, I appreciate you. I jus got a 2001, and its acting BMW quirky. I think its jus been sitting on the dealers for months. He put the price down to $2K trying to move it. Seems like a great bike!

    Also got one, in yellow! Sometimes I would have about 2100rpm when I depress the clutch but still rolling; only after complete standstill it would drop to 1400. What helps indeed is letting the computer figure it all out at start-up: start your engine and don't touch your gas lever until all the lights have disappeared and the rpm has dropped to idling. For sure similar to holding the start button for 3-5 seconds!

      1. lights must settle down before starting. 2. then hold 3 seconds after start. Idle 1500.

    4:40 The solution is to hold the start button for 3-5 seconds, even if the motor starts right away. There. I saved you almost 9 tedious minutes.

    Watched out of curiosity, cause I own the same bike, but never had stall issues (owner from 2006 130k km in the clock). Right from the start I got used to hold on to the starter button for longer in order for the bike to start, cause otherwise it often failed to start, so maybe that is why I never had such an issue.

    Can confirm the hot restart issue with the F650GS model around year 2000. Not all have the issue (owned 2 the same f650gs). Only happens on hot restart.
    For me it helps to just let the bike sit for approx 5+ seconds after ignition on to let the bikes MMS intialize. Then restart. Restart fail gone.
    The other slightly different problem variant is when it happens to restart without the 5+ sec initialize wait. It won't run idle, just dies unless the gas is kept at around 1500+ rpm.
    The one f650gs that has this problem also had significant more torque 😮 compared to the other I owner at the same time. Never figured out whyv exactly.
    Without owning 2 F650s GS at the same time I would never have noticed the torque difference. Guessed the MMS firmware has a different fuel curve.

    No you are wrong... Im sorry to tell you. This happened back in 2004 when bike was new. After gthe first software update, official bmw, this solved. So in total you need to go to a bmw dealer and do the updates. 2 in total I have done the first 2 years of ownership. After the 2 updates you ll riding a different machine...(solves many other issues like no power on mid revs e.tc)

    The same happens very often with G650x models. I tried to hold on to starter button as you say on my g650xCh but it doesn’t work. I just spend a little time after starting the engine to let it warm up with the help of turning the throttle sligthy after about 15 seconds from startup. Seems like the ECU is trying to switch to ‚normal’ running mode but has issues with it before reaching engine temps that are programmed.

      Sorry it didn't work for you. Hope you have other options to solve the issue

      Hi .I have a 2005 f650gs. I live a small town ,so I do a lot short and slow trips every day. I confuses the ecu . What I have learnt is the problem gets a lot worse if I assist / touch the throttle when starting the bike. It’s sets the zero in the wrong place and stalls in the first corner I go slow . So I always try to just no touch anything and let it start. Also turn everything off , turn the key on ,let it arm and then slowly twist the grip to full throttle ( take about 3”) then release and then start the bike . It often resets the ecu. ( hope this makes sense)

      @@peterandromidas915 hi there. Not touching the throttle during ‘startup procedure’ is a given. The thing is, there are some more ‘gremlins’ lurking about with this design.. you either love it or love it less 😅
      Happy travels 👊

    Nice bike, I bought mine a few days ago! 2005 bmw f650 gs Dakar. Quick question: the stickers on the switches are all faded out, do you know if and where they sell the replacements? I found some online but only for the newer versions… thanks!

    • @tugainswitzerland
      @tugainswitzerland  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi. I have no clue. Mine are also faded. I tried e bay, facebook and even amazon. No luck. At least for the dakar. But you find for the normal f650gs... I don't know if they are exactly the same. But the prices... 🤔 expensive.
      Happy new year🙂

    • @tugainswitzerland
      @tugainswitzerland  6 місяців тому +1

      Boas. Até agora não me parece que aqueça mais do que o normal. No Verão fiz muitos passes de montanha, fui a França e Itália e não tive problemas, nem notei um aquecimento fora do normal. Sinceramente na minha antiga moto, Honda cb500f de 2019, o ventilador do radiador disparava com mais frequência.
