Without having access to a Supercharger network or at-home charging, is it possible to own any EV other than a Tesla? Check out our comparison breakdown right here: edmu.in/3ncfseq
Sadly the Muck-e is NOT a Mustang 🐎, it's a DONKEY made in Mexico. the Muck-e is OVERWEIGHT and too HEAVY, it weighs Hundreds of pounds more than a PLAID with 3 motors. and FORD has CRAP infotainment and Software. good luck with the COOLANT system not LEAKING.
Do we expect all EV manufacturers build their own charging station grid? What a waste! They should be standardised and open for everyone. Let‘s not repeat the mistakes of the past!
Ok sure the Tesla is a winner but to be frank. For a purely 1st attempt by Ford this is damn incredible Remember Ford is a 18 USD vs 200+ USD per share company. And yet its flexed its EV muscle damn close to a tech giant like Tesla. I think Ford engineers deserves some real credit to have not completely copy a rival and yet ve a unique BeV that frankly felt better to drive and has good range than what even Giants like Porsche, Audi, Volvo, VW etc were able to make Every Tesla fan wants Ford, GM etc to die. But I feel that they shud b given a chance and given a chance Ford did extremely well
I don’t get why Ford & other traditional OEM’s haven’t installed chargers in all of its dealerships…they’re basically convenient everywhere, and it could be a way for the dealership to make xtra money from their parking lot space.
Why would anybody want chargers at dealerships? You need fast chargers only when traveling long distances, so you need them on interstates, highways, etc.
A performance Mach E with five seconds of limited performance = fail in my book. A better solution would be to throttle back on the high performance once the range decreases to 75 - 100 miles.
The problem is the thermal management of the batteries, not range. Batteries can only sustain a high power output for a short amount of time before they get too hot
With our Tesla if you floor it here and there you can actually hear the cooling/hearing system come online. It’s a running joke when driving because it’s like it’s saying “Oh you wanna drive hard? Lemme get my batteries ready for ya!”
I surely hope Ford pays attention to this. The 5 second rule is actually worse, it's diminishing full power based on speed. So at 70mph, you loose about 200 HP. I'm a GTPE owner and i live my life 5 seconds at a time.
I have one GT performance grabber blue got in October pre-ordered in May ..amazing car much better looking than tesla model y..but with a big limitation that ford unfairly doesn't tell the buyers to sell more and almost a brake deal for me that I use to have performance cars.. YOU CAN NOT HAVE THE FULL POWER FOR LONGER THAN 5 SEC AT THE TIME THAN THE SOFTWARE CUT THE POWER TO HALF TO COOL AND PRESERVE THE BATTERIES..THIS MEANS YOU CAN NOT DRIVE REALLY AGGRESSIVE AND YOU CAN FORGET TO PERFORM AT THE TRACK BECAUSE EVERY 5 SECS YOUR CAR WILL CUT THE POWER IN HALF AND WAIT COUPLE OF SECS TO RECOVER UNTIL NEXT CUT..ANYWAY VERY VERY ANNOING😬..FORD GIVES YOU A UNBRIDLED EAXSTEND MODE ("TRACK MODE") BUT IT IS ANOTHER SCAM BECAUSE JUST CUT HALF OF YOUR POWER FROM THE BEGINNING SO THE CAR HAS NOT TO DO LATER..FORD DOESN'T TELL YOU THIS..OTHER COMPANY(PORCHE/AUDI) TELL YOU WILL HAVE A BOOST FOR LAUNCH THAN YOU POWER WILL BE LESS.. TESLA MODEL WHY LOOKS LIKE A FISH BUT AT LEAST PUSH HARD WITHOUT ANY CUT OF POWER..I DON'T KNOW IF THEY HAVE BETTER ENGEGNERING OR JUST THEY CARE LESS ABOUT THE BATTERIES🤔 I WAITED SO MUCH FOR THIS CAR THAT COSTED ME 70K😬😱 AND THAN FORD CAME OUT WITH THIS TYPE OF SCAM ..UNFAIR AT LEAST😬😱 THE LIMITATION IS JUST SOFTWARE ANYWAY FOR MY UNDERSTANDING SO THEY COULD FIND THE WAY TO REMOVE SAFTLY THIS LIMITATION🤔😬
I decided not to get the GT since I would basically be paying almost exclusively for looks and Magne-Ride. It would never see a track. The Premium will be enough performance to make my daughter giggle when I hit the accelerator.
@@anto6408 Sell it. You'll get more than what you paid for it right now. This is obviously the wrong car for you. Ford is warrantying their battery for EIGHT YEARS. Yes, they're going to tweak the software to preserve that battery so you're not burning through it in half the time, and at their expense.
The difference being Ford has produced and supported reliable vehicles for years; Tesla's still are not a complete product. Ford knows what brings buyers back in to buy another is making cars with comfortable, well thought out interiors people still love years later. The summary of this video sums up why the Mach-e was selling as fast as Ford can make it. If you want a track car why are you buying an EV to begin with?
Absolute insanity to consider Ford Blue Cruise as remotely comparable to Autopilot. I drove a Mach E for a week up and down California in August 2021 and it can barely stay in a lane at highway speed. Autopilot is predictive and works everywhere. No comparison whatsoever.
@@ThaDirtyOne7 tell that to the countless MachE owners and enthusiasts on the forums who are upset this wasn’t disclosed anywhere in the buying process.
They "chose" to use pouch cells from LG which have thermal expansion issues (see Chevy bolt and their fire problems when charging - same cells), so it's not really a choice for them to not have this problem. The cell form factor is the issue.
@@ThaDirtyOne7 no prob, anyways good thing to be aware of since I know alot of people are hoping it's just like a software lock or something, but it's more of a hard issue than people realize i think
I completely agree, I've been dying to see two brand new performance versions of these two vehicles do a drag race. This was a prime opportunity to do so and you didn't deliver. Hope you can in the future. Preferably with the same model year.
A year after this video was posted, we bought a Tesla Model Y. Price, charging network, features, and safety all combine to make a very compelling car. My last two new cars were both Fords, Mustang GT and Fusion. I still have the fusion, but I only drive it around town now, trips are for the Model Y. Dealers are killing the Mach-E by tacking on "market adjustment" surcharges. After the Tesla purchase experience, I don't ever want to go to a traditional dealership again.
I heard that the Mach-E does not allow you to run it full throttle more than 3 times due to preserving the battery, is this true? After 3 hard launches the Mach-E goes into limp mode. @8:13 you answered my question. Thank you! This is a deal breaker for me
It’s not exactly limp mode. It’s not that great of a reduction. You probably won’t notice it unless you’re actually at the track. Ford knows most drivers probably aren’t racing these things. At most, they might get on it for a few seconds until range anxiety kicks in. On the flip, I wouldn’t be surprised if the tuners came with a way to override that. Would likely void the warranty unless Ford themselves decide to offer it as an over the air update.
I respect preserving the battery life but agree a hard compromise at that price. Ford tends to play it conservative with their EVs whether it is range or preserving the battery. Works out well in the range where you get more than promised. Hopefully with time and software updates they can loosen the reigns on the power limitations.
I don't know if it's a software fixable issue. The pouch cells they use from LG expand quite a bit when under thermal pressure, so thermal management is an issue. So if you were to have too much thermal pressure by opening up the performance taps all the way, this could be a dangerous thing just because of the type of cells they're using. Tesla uses cylindrical can cells not pouch cells so they don't have same issue
@@Mustgtcs07 I love the look of ours. I'm still wondering why all the competitors have grills. Talk about ugly and useless but that's where they spend their "design" money instead of on software, OTAs and performance.
Yes I had a rental Model Y for a whole week, here is my 2 cents, Very bumpy ride , rattling noises, range not as promised, the ride had only 10K miles. don't own an EV yet , will not buy a Tesla forsure, I would like to Test out the Mustang GT, so far Not available for rental
@@cessealbeach makes me wonder if a deal like the one with Hertz will actually hurt Tesla as people will be able to try them out like you did and have the mystique brought back down to earth.
I don’t understand why it’s only Tesla that gives their EV’s the brutal, raw power and they don’t hold out on you. All of the other brands feel like they watered down the performance and made it wimpy in response and delivery.
i'm surprised you picked the blue cruise over the tesla auto pilot ? Sandy Munro tested the blue cruise on the highway and it was absolutely terrible ? Maybe Ford has tweaked it since then.
They've had to have done some updates to in since that test. I live near that stretch of highway where they filmed that video and tested the same curve in my Mach-E (running production version of the software obviously) where it told him to put his hands on the wheel and I never got saw a prompt to take back control.
What? Are you claiming the Ford screen is better in any way? It's vertical, no youtube, no netflix and all that dumb knob does is volume control, which is on steering wheel and is not less distracting to reach for on a screen Autopilot is awesome, I've been using it for almost two years, blue cruise is shit. Their knocks are not justified, they are biased POS. Some things they said maybe true, but because of all their bs, you shouldn't trust anything they say, you can't know if you haven't experienced it yourself. Fuck em, I hope Edmunds disappears with the producers of gas guzzlers and air toxifiers.
@@timmos184 never driven the mach-e. but i own a MYP. i’m just being honest. its not perfect in every way. but i’m never going back. i turn my own wrenches. 20k mi. no issues. love this car. we need ford to be in the game. tesla’s mission is pulling everyone else along and it’s working. but i wouldn’t put money on F. this is not investment advice. do your own research 😜
just to be clear. you’re right, blue cruise is a joke. but most ppl won’t understand why. and the infotainment of the mach-e is subpar. there is no true comparison to tesla. but ford did make an ev that doesn’t totally suck and doesn’t look like an EV-1.
These new EVs benefit us all. We'll have much better options in the future. Tesla has done wonders for this market. After having the Tesla, and then driving the Mach-e, I just much prefer the Ford. I don't do long trips, so charging and range aren't an issue. I suspect 90%+ people probably rarely take their car more than a few hundred miles away. Just a guess. I don't need a race car, they both are more than fast enough for most of us. The Ford is quiet, smooth, and I actually prefer the interior and infotainment layout vs Tesla. And I never have liked the appearance of the M3 or Y. Model S rocks it. I really like the MME look. All very subjective and I don't think you can really go wrong with either.
I thought I would easlly chose the mach e gt. I saw it at Laguna at a Ford stand and I thought it looked great. But what's the point of performance if you can't even use it. I use my friends early production model 3 to drive into the hills all the time. We are always giving it alot of throttle. If the mach e can't even survive 5 seconds of acceleration on flat ground how would it do trying to climb hills quickly or making a high speed pass on the interstate. It's like they sold a mustang GT 5.0 with the cooling system from a focus.
Actually, those other use cases would be perfect for the Mach-E. It is (currently) limited for more than 5 seconds in full-on 0-VMAX mode. In any other contexts, especially things like high speed passes, it's excellent.
It's unfortunate a 2021 Model Y was not available for this test. Using an almost 2 year old electric vehicle, I would assume battery has degraded some (charging habits) which would impact your range test. I could only imagine the degradation from a mach e in 2 years. Looking forward to the head to head track video.
To run a Model Y that is over a year old where Tesla is consistently changing how they produce their cars is disingenuous. Why not use a 2021 Tesla just like they used a 2021 Ford?
Other outlets have compared the Model Y to the Mustang Mach E and come to similar conclusions. So even if this only one data point, the trend is that the Y LR and the longer range Mach E variants are either nearly equal or with a slight advantage to the Ford. Simple as that.
I own a GT Performance 2021 and Tesla M3 Performance 2021. id say there very close to each other, one drives better the GT and, one has better tech the Tesla. The GT is way more comfortable though but, if I'm going on a long trip I'll take the Tesla there charging network is years ahead of the EA (Electric America). The GT gets way more attention like I have people waiting out in front of my car sometimes when I come out of shopping centers to ask questions about it. Both are great cars the Blue-Cruise is amazing when it works but it's very limited but not much different then my FSD which honestly only works about half the time too (very bad phantom breaking out here where I live guessing the area is not mapped out to great) The GT gets over the est driving the Tesla always is way under (GT is good for 260 I normally get around 270-280) The Tesla is rated for 315 I normally get around 240-250) Both cars cost about the same I paid $70,040 for my GT and I paid $70,560 for the Tesla. Love them both. If I was to keep one it would be the GT hands down just better build, better ride and I charge at home 99% time so the biggest benefit of Tesla does not impact me. (the charging network)
Substract FSD from the Tesla price. Ford doesn't really offer any more functionality than basic autopilot. Suddenly the value proposition looks quite different. Also: have you tried to reduce tire pressure for better ride comfort as Musk suggests on Twitter?
@@NO3V I did then lower the air, but then TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) senser goes off to refill it. I agree with your statement on the FSD price and if I'm being fully honest that was the biggest waste of money to buy atm I'm sure sometime in the future it will be worth the price but not even close atm.
I was riding with my coworker is his Tesla a week ago I was alittle surprised about the rattling noise. It was a bit disturbing but it was a nice ride though.
I might enjoy the Tesla more the one or two times I took it to an actual track. On public roads, I don’t think I’d hit the power limiter very often. Give me that Mach E
I test drove the Mach E and based on softly I was driving it, it had more range by the time I got back to the dealer. It went from 181 to 188. I was just driving normally too, I thought that was pretty cool. The model Y I drove didn’t seem to be that efficient but I have to say it was more fun than the Mach E
No, Tesla has changed options several times. There was a point where you could get a Model Y performance stealth without the upgraded wheels and brakes for cheaper.

It’s nice to see some solid competition against Tesla! The problem is, Tesla’s next change is right around the corner.. when the competition is just finally getting to the party.
I think it’s going to be much faster for the big companies to catch up when they’ve gone through the hardest part ( bureaucratic / polices mine fields) of the race
@@AG-en5y they won’t catch up. They have too much invested in ice vehicles through design, engineering, and manufacturing. Basically they would have to fire most of the old guard and hire new. GM recently said they are going to “electrify the auto industry”. GM showed up at this years LA auto show with zero, that’s 0, EV’s. Tesla and the Chinese are just too far ahead.
@@AG-en5y it’s Porsche not Ford, GM, or Chrysler. Porsche makes vehicles in extremely less quantities and sells to a different clientele. Legacy have no interest in going electric. It’s much easier to close the plant or discontinue manufacturing without the complaints of American job loss. The thing is if these legacy auto manufacturers do the right thing for their business and go electric, up to 50% of their workforce will be cut. All the way from design, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to machinists and assemblers. I was so ready to sign up for a GT until I started hearing about the 5 second thing. That is, and should be a dealbreaker for ANY performance version of anything. If it was like that on the standard version, it'd be one thing. On a performance model that costs 10's of thousands more? Not a chance. Call me when these things can perform consistently...
I bought a Model Y 14 months ago. It is the first new car i have purchased in 23 years. The Tesla customer service is amazing, I got the car home and found a dirty spot on the ceiling and a tiny scratch on my tail light...I mean very tiny. They had a repair guy at my house at 9AM the next morning (An hour from the dealer) and the car was clean and fixed by 10AM. And buying online without the games was great,
The Y is such an easy decision. The car is so simple to use, tells you when you need to charge, has a TON of room and is a blast to drive. Road trips are amazingly fun, with the super charger network - they just work - pull in plug and you are charging. Just go drive one and you will not be disappointed.
I want to like teslas but I can’t seem to find a model Y that doesn’t have panel gap issues or disturbingly loud creaks while taking corners. Really depressed me every time I heard it and made the car feel like a fisher price toy even though I know it’s not.
@@24bergman And Tesla has been notorious for their excessively uneven panel gaps and bland interior designs, so there’s that too! Btw Ford has a much larger dealer network.
Says the company who brought us classics such as the Escort and Pinto. Did I mention their batteries blow up if acceleration persists for longer than 5 SECONDS?!
Fantastic video. Whole time I thought you were going to go with the mach E but definitely see why you went the MYP route. I grew up with mustangs my whole life but we have our model y performance delivering in 2 weeks so we are excited!
I have had three Mustang GTs when I was younger. Now we have a Model 3 P and a Model Y P for daily driving. I have a manual BMW M3 in the garage and was close to picking up a GT 350. I am going to hold out for a 911 S now.
I've driven the mach e GT performance on the street..... The acceleration is mind boggling from a stop even if only for 5 seconds of full power... Keep in mind my daily driver is a c8 corvette... Obviously the c8 is much quicker on the top end but the mach e just seems to defy the laws of physics and just plants you in your seat. This was the first ev I've ever driven and my mind has been blown. I'm not sure I would ever buy one but impressed none the less... Nice job ford!
So after 5 seconds your GT turns back into a standard Mach e. Lol The non performance Tesla's are faster and quicker in a 1/4 mile than the GT performance
I thought Edmunds is doing a half decent job of being unbiased for once then bam Blue cruise is ahead of Tesla's FSD LOL! Blue cruise has 0 chance off turning a corner on its own, what an idiotic conclusion to draw.
The biggest issue is that they don’t understand that most people confuse auto pilot with FSD. Those are two different things the Tesla Offers. The people in this channel took advantage of people’s ignorance and pretended like blue Cruise was actually better when in reality FSD is the upgraded version of auto pilot which fall under the category of (Autonomy LEVEL 3.5) which means that most of the time you can let the car drive you ANYWHERE! but for legal reasons, Tesla has to say level 2 because FSD is still in “beta”
Look, afaik Tesla is giving them nothing, no nice payed minivacations to new model presentations, no test drive cars, nothing. So what do you expect? They need to put Ford etc a bit over, so that those continue to give them freebies.
15:20 From what I saw on Munro Live, BlueCruise is adequate if you’re driving on a perfectly straight highway without navigation. Just be careful about the slightest curve, and the exits are up to you!
@@JohnPMiller I believe that just qualifies as cruise control. And not better than an AI driven self driving that is quickly becoming better than a human driver.
@@meho1010 I’d say that BlueCruise is worse than cruise control. With cruise control, you know that it’s up to you to drive. With BlueCruise, it deactivates on turns, and you need to take control right away. I guess that’s why Edmunds didn’t go into the details; it would make them look stupid.
Already ordered a GT and really happy about the. Also test drove a model Y. The thing is, I feel like Ford is an experienced car maker that decided to make an EV. While Tesla is still more a tech company that wanted to make a car. Don’t get me wrong, Tesla is a pioneer and highly boosted EV tech and cars, just not my preferred manufacturer yet.
@@ElementaryWatson-oxo falling apart? You mean like the recalls ford had on the mme with their glass roofs and front windshields possibly flying off due to poor adhesive? Customers were getting wind noise and water coming through
@@ismaelcarrillo3956 -- "possibly flying off", never happened unlike with Tesla. Again Ford does care about customers, so they are going to reseal the glass, Tesla despite the accidents never does anything for customer safety. You are projecting in all your statements because you are suffering from cognitive dissonance. Next time try harder, you poor triggered Tesla cult member. 😂😂😂
About navigation, when you say that without reception the maps are just going to disappear... that's just not true. Map and routing data is downloaded periodically and kept in car. Without any reception, at worst you loose just the satellite images. You had the car for over a year and didn't know that?
You do know that Ford says if you put it in unbridled it's quarter mile times will not be as fast as in general performance mode unbridled design for handling and performance so the power comes on differently it's for spirited road driving
They've talked to the Ford engineers; I'm pretty sure their information is current. Also, Edmonds' take on it is consistent with other reviews I've seen. You get an initial rush of power, and then it tapers off aggressively. The good news, if any, is that all of that can get tweaked in software. That said, my understanding is that the car does try to protect the battery at all times, so even on other models of Mach-E, it will sacrifice power to cool down the battery.
Laughing at folks arguing 0-60 and 1/4 times for daily driver crossovers. Regardless of their horsepower numbers these aren't track machines and never will be. Buy the one that you find attractive, enjoy driving, fits in your budget and you won't have regrets. Basing your decision on "performance" numbers will leave you second guessing yourself after the novelty of stop light racing quickly fades away.
Tesla Model Y is great on the track. Plus, I like to take my car the local strip. There is a reason these numbers matter to people, even if you cannot see it. The MYP is one of the quickest SUVS on a track, and with a couple unplugged performance upgrades, it’s literally THE fastest SUV on a track.
I didn't say they weren't capable of being on the track but 99% of the buyers of these vehicles aren't tracking them period. And if track use is one of the purposes a potential buyer is contemplating then there are much better options out there. This is coming from someone who owns EVs.
@@E_Static I own them as well and performance, aka bragging rights, is essential. Just because you’re a fuddy dud driver doesn’t mean everyone else is.
I have a 2016 model S. I have a 2021 Mach E GT. So I'm pretty objective. 2:37 shows how poor is the Tesla body quality. I experienced the same thing on my model S. So from a body quality perspective, the Mach E is way better.
I own a Model Y Performance. So I'm definitely biased here! Several reasons I'm sticking with my Model Y. One is FSD (I just got the update for Beta and it is so cool). Second is efficiency. Sure, the range of the Mach-E and the Model Y are essential the same. But the Model Y uses it's energy better and can do so with a smaller battery. That means quicker charges. Speaking of charging, the EA chargers are terrible. I tried one with a Taycan my local Porsche dealer was lending out. It sucked! And the charge curve on the Mach-E leaves a lot to be desired. The $7.5k tax incentive is a good reason to get the Mach-E. But, I just don't think I'd ditch my Model Y yet.
How many buyers actually take their EV SUVs to a track for prolonged laps? It's a valid criticism of performance car, no doubt, but one that is actually rare occurrence in use.
Also the cooling and heating system needs to get checked & bleed every 10,000 mi for Mach E vs none of that with Model Y. How's that for a bad engineering by Ford?
The results imply that the battery and BMS are not optimized so well in the Ford. If you paid for performance and the badging that comes with it, you should get it any time you want.
Drives the mustang on the track, this is like a mustang, no whoa no giant smile. Drives model y on track, depricates it, whoa this is fast, giant smiles. The words say buy a mustang, the body language says buy a tesla.
Yes, because taking your hand off the wheel to find an awkwardly placed volume knob is better than keeping your hands on the wheel and using one thumb to adjust the volume. Brilliant insight.
I’d take the ford. Acceleration is fun but after a while it does get old. Plus where I live about 10% of the time I drive can I actually accelerate to any where near either of these capability. However handling is something I can utilize way more often and from what I see the ford takes the win there.
I completely disagree on the FSD. Having used both, Teslas are years ahead. Tesla can be used in the city and highway. It can recognize and stop at red lights or stop signs. It can exit a highway on its own. And it works everywhere. It’s not geofenced. Ford only works on premapped highway roads. It can not be used on city streets. The reporter also left out one of Teslas best features: it has over the air updates. It’s been doing this since 2012. Mach E is supposed to get them, but last I checked, they still can’t do it. Teslas also have UA-cam, Netflix, and many other entertainment options. It’s like owing an iPhone instead of an old Nokia. Mach E is not even close yet.
@@socalsp3 What do u need that shit for when Tesla's native infotainment is way better? I never found myself thinking "oh it would be nice Android auto". R u kidding me?
Lets look at this from a safety standpoint. The ford has a set of cameras pointing at your eyes to make sure you are paying attention. I don't think Tesla has that. So what is that worth when you are the passenger, or letting other family member drive your EV? Just trying to look at this from all perspectives.
@@jamesseay9943 the newer Tesla models have the interior camera now too. To me it’s much safer having to hold the wheel. Having your eyes on the road and not holding the wheel could cause a delayed reaction to an emergency. Teslas require both. Eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. So from a safety standpoint, using your metrics, Tesla wins again. Plus all teslas have received the highest safety scores of any vehicles tested.
@@Wirmish no but typically performance cars get track tested and I am 100% sure the Tesla is the better handling car and will be faster so I want to see the times
I’ve got a M3P and put lowering springs on it and I can feel everything in the road. I don’t mind because I wanted the performance upgrades provided by it!
Hopefully tesla does add magneride or air suspension. I do think the Model 3/y has some of the best coil springs, but thats like saying blackberry has the best phones with a keyboard. Although, Im very pleased with other aspects of my M3P!
I have Mountain Pass Performance coil overs on my Model 3 Performance and the handling is improved. The suspension also absorbs the bumps better. My wife has a 2023 Model Y Performance and I would like to change the suspension as well. The 21” wheels are a bit harsh on rough roads.
I was surprised to hear Blue Cruise out does even Standard Autopilot. Wow! Until I remember Ford saying it is limited to specific parts of the highway excluding on ramps and of ramps. Nice advertising there Edmunds. I'm not a Tesla fan but I work in the Tech industry and I must say. You need some technical understanding to compare a Tesla to a Ford. There's tonnes of differences that if the average person knew they'd run from the Ford. Sandy Monroe did the favor of the comparison and I'd recommend you watch it
The tesla's made in the US have terrible built quality cos they basically bought the factory from Ford and retrofitted the EV equipment from factory built on ICE cars the cars from shanghai don't have any of these built quality issues .
Drivetrain built quality is something this review didn’t cover. That’s why I went with the model y. Watch sandy Monroe to get an idea of the drivetrain / cooling build quality.
@@emmanuelpaige8898 The suspension is super soft. Under sprung and over damped. There is a difference. Load of garbage on four wheels. Nah, maybe not. Load of bullshit would be Ford's Mach E or BMWs i4
Ford was originally going to make a boring EV like the Bolt, but then execs stepped in halfway through the design process and said to make something interesting. And thus the MachE was born, and the Mustang badge borrowed. Someone online said it felt like the rushed development process meant they didn't have time to redesign the battery pack to favor performance vs economy, and I think that explanation really makes sense. Here's hoping Ford can swap battery architectures once the Lightning enters production and they get more experience with it...
100%, I’ve been driving electric without gas with Tesla since 2017, while the facts in the vid for Tesla could have been portrayed in a better way, this isn’t rivalry, it’s simply every car has its pros and cons.
Sold my horrible build quality 2020 Model Y, and bought a 2021 Mach-E GT. The looks, quality, luxury and fun to drive of the Mach-E leaves the Model Y in its dust. Tesla has a real competitor in the Mach-E. If Ford can keep up with the production and demand of the Mach-E, Tesla will find itself very quickly in deep trouble.
I'm a MME fan. The MME GT PE actually does have something called "Unbridled Extend" drive mode for the track. Interesting though, it reduces full power so you get more track laps. I do wish the GT PE didn't handcuff the full power for only 5 seconds at a time from a start. It puts the quarter mile time at around 12.5 seconds. It would hang with the MY PE for the first 75 MPH, then the MY would walk away. Best we can tell, Ford is being conservative on long term battery wear and tear; its their first year model, right?
I bought the Ford Mustang Mach-e GT Performance Edition, and I’m very pleased. I drive it in unbridled mode with propulsion sound turned on and do not use one pedal driving. The propulsion sounds is not a V8 mimic, it is actually the sound coming off the electric motors being amplified and pumped into the cabin. I find the sound helpful during acceleration to gauge audibly what the car is doing. The throttle response is smoother in unbridled when not using one pedal driving. The regenerative braking works regardless of which mode you have it in. The ride and steering feel are firm and responsive. I like it that way. One of my other cars is a Porsche Boxster, so I compare the steering and suspension firmness and the car’s responsiveness to that. The GT PE is much heavier than the Boxster and I can’t fling it around a corner the same way, but if you go into a corner a little slower and hit the throttle after the apex of the turn it is a lot of fun. The ride quality is firm but smooth. The fit and finish and build quality are great. There are no creaks or rattles or panel gaps like the T cars. In real world driving I have not found the so-called five second rule to be a problem. How often do step on the throttle all the way for more than five seconds in a row? With power and torque like this you don't need to. I have learned to warn passengers to put use their headrests before I hit the throttle hard, because otherwise there is a risk of whiplash just from the throttle response. when passing on a two way road it can get going faster than any reasonable person needs in a matter of a couple seconds, I mean eye-watering fast. It is all around the best car I've ever driven.
Tesla performance is $63,990 even after the recent price increase, and u list it as $68,990, an actual 5k more than its actual price, and this video is posted 6 hours ago. Why?
@@laujoyjoy FSD is a beta option on Y and a feature Mach-e doesn't have. Why even include it in the price comparison? Imagine someone who new in the market and watch this video and thinking they are similar in price, which in fact one is 8k cheaper, faster and longer range. I just think if Edmund is trying to help people choose, then at least provide accurate info, ESPECIALLY on price. It is so misleading.
Tesla fans had implied that Ford was gaming the range by using skinny tires in lower trim Mach E's. It's satisfying that the GT has big tires and wins on the skid pad, braking AND range.
Fun fact on the teslas. The maps are not google based. The display of the map is google and uses google earth imagery however underneath are other map services along with Teslas own stuff for navigating to super chargers and handling range and navigation. Even traffic data comes from some place other than google. It’s actually pretty sophisticated and it’s integration with the car goes overlooked.
So I get that you might be more used to using the kind of driver assistance ford offers, but I have to say as a Model Y owner that it takes about 2-4 weeks to really get in tune with autopilot. Once you do, it blows everything away; especaially on the highway. Ford can't do automatic lane changes or take you off a ramp. It uses sensors to stay between lines. My Model Y can tell me if a stop light turns green, stops me if I am trying to back up into a grocery cart in a parking lot. You gloss over haow important and revolutionary it truly is, especially when you look at the safety stats. Ford, GM, Toyota, VW... no one is even close in that respect.
@@jamesseay9943 yes, it checks on you all the time, the thing that gets missed though in these reviews is it literally won’t let you hit another car. It also autonomously accelerates and turns to avoid being rear ended. It’s way more advanced than people realize.
Having test driven both...we ordered a Mach E GT Performance - and honestly it was not even close. We are looking for an every day driver that is practical, well built, good range with a great user interface and also a serious blast to drive when the opportunity arises- with at least level 2 autonomy features. The Mach E GT Performance is a clear winner for what we will do with the car at least 359 days of any given year. The MME GT PE is the clear winner for about every single category for what we are looking forward to in a car that we drive on the street including the driving of the car in the real world. I really don't think I want an SUV from anyone if my goal was to race my car on the track- "GT" or "Performance". If I want a full out race car that is street legal, there are other choices (probably a Plaid with a 9.3 second 1/4 mile time at 150+MPH trap speed), but I know from experience that in the real world-the MME GT PE will do far more of everything that we are looking for-including a great user interface that includes CarPlay (& Android Auto). The Model Y is impressive, please don't get me wrong- and I am sure that it would be a fine ride...however...since every vehicle is compromise of features and performance, we found the MME GT PE to be as close to perfect for what we want in a car that we drive daily on the street-and it hands down for us blew the Tesla out of the water for what we want.
Great video, but I would have definitely mentioned upfront that the Model Y is over a year old daily driver and the Mach-E GT is brand new. It would be like reviewing your daily driver 2020 iPhone against a brand new phone. It is fine to do but should be a bit more transparent. Again, though I enjoyed the video. One point, I am surrounded by rural areas and in six years have never seen my maps disappear.
@Frugal Family Living Car or not. Lithium Ion batteries are the same. They all degrade over time. Many have noted a 3-5% degradation within the first year of use in an electric car. The degradation seems to slow after that. However, it is an unfair comparison to put a fresh from the factory battery vs one that has been used for a year. All that said the year-old battery still proved competitive.
I own the MY Performance and listening to this review is difficult. Him using words like messy, wobbly, loose, etc is absolutely biased and untrue. The MYP is amazing and fun to drive! Off the line, the Mach E GT leads for a quick second or two, but over a quarter mile, the MYP wins! It doesn’t top out or limit you. I guess it just depends on what style you like. It’s like comparing an old school Camaro to Mustang to Charger! They’re all pretty close. Just pick the one that appeals to you!
I know this is a sporty version comparison, but Model Y get 30% more efficicy, also brake feel you did not mention. The brake on the mach e is brake by wire and it get that rubber band feeling when tesla gets best tuned brake and regen. I also want to mention it is also unfair to compare a 2022 model mach e to a 2020 model y, ford use regular mach e as test build, so the GT you got already second generation tooling. I know tesla have some build issue, but when you compare their 2022 model, to this mach e, that is more fair to me.
This is as fair a comparison as you can possibly make. “30% more efficiency” doesn’t really mean anything if the Mustang goes more miles. As far as the year comparison…You’re right. They’re a few years apart, but Tesla doesn’t provide press cars, so it’s not Edmunds fault that they had to compare it this way.
Those 2 borg Warner motors are to hot for the pack&cooling systems to handle in concert at max draw for more than a few seconds consecutively. Supposedly they are working on a thermal fix and software to address it. Should be interesting.
And the Fords are going for $84K at the dealerships with all the games and nonsense that comes with buying a new car the old way. Tesla is online for $64K with no games. And amazing customer service. WE love ours and it was a great experience.
To be honest that fords screens reminds me of an android tablet with plasticy knob while the teslas screen reminds me of a refined apple tablet that just works .
They are clearly being paid by Ford, GM, Toyota, and many other companies in sponsorships. Not necessarily to bash on tesla what is a side effect they don’t really care too much to be honest
Big difference between the two: Tesla will cost you the same for everyone who order it online (the only way to buy it new) no dealer or salesman hassle. In Puerto Rico (were I live) Ford dealers are selling the Mach E with a 10K to 15K premium
Keep in mind that a new Model Y (not the 1 year old model shown here) is structurally different with currently a single piece casting in rear and soon a single piece casting for the front as well with a structural battery pack in between.
Kinda makes you think about why that is the case though. I know Tesla has streamlined their production process over the years but still makes me curious where other “optimizations” are taking place to get to such margins.
Without having access to a Supercharger network or at-home charging, is it possible to own any EV other than a Tesla? Check out our comparison breakdown right here: edmu.in/3ncfseq

Do we expect all EV manufacturers build their own charging station grid? What a waste! They should be standardised and open for everyone. Let‘s not repeat the mistakes of the past!

@@jamesseay9943 Rapid charging is pure evil
Ok sure the Tesla is a winner but to be frank. For a purely 1st attempt by Ford this is damn incredible
Remember Ford is a 18 USD vs 200+ USD per share company. And yet its flexed its EV muscle damn close to a tech giant like Tesla.
I think Ford engineers deserves some real credit to have not completely copy a rival and yet ve a unique BeV that frankly felt better to drive and has good range than what even Giants like Porsche, Audi, Volvo, VW etc were able to make
Every Tesla fan wants Ford, GM etc to die.
Because DC fast chargers are not cheap! A 250kW charger can cost upwards of $50k with installation. And then there's the maintenance.....
The dealerships don’t belong to Ford probably makes it a little more difficult to decide to do that.
Some do some don't its dealer dependent.
They have though... Like in Floprida they are more convent they telsa's chargers.

The difference being Ford has produced and supported reliable vehicles for years; Tesla's still are not a complete product. Ford knows what brings buyers back in to buy another is making cars with comfortable, well thought out interiors people still love years later. Absolute insanity to consider Ford Blue Cruise as remotely comparable to Autopilot. I drove a Mach E for a week up and down California in August 2021 and it can barely stay in a lane at highway speed. Autopilot is predictive and works everywhere. No comparison whatsoever.
thank you- an unbiased response. The presenter in this video has definitely been paid by Ford to push this inaccurate and false rhetoric.
Yeah I literally laughed out loud. They can’t even work on many roads in the country… let alone any road with lane markings like Tesla…

BlueCruise was not released until October 2021. I believe you're thinking of adaptive cruise.

Other than never owning a Ford, I agree 100%.
track mode is now on the y performance . Next give us drag mode!
I've had 2 Tesla's...and I think I'm done. I'm going to the Ford. There is a Tesla on every corner now
I heard that the Mach-E does not allow you to run it full throttle more than 3 times due to preserving the battery, is this true? After 3 hard launches the Mach-E goes into limp mode. @8:13 you answered my question. Thank you! This is a deal breaker for me
Are you kidding me??? Oh my god if they put that same feature in the Ford lighting I’m not buying this at all
It’s not exactly limp mode.
The model why performance is actually faster now, and has track mode. It's simply a fantastic vehicle.
Brake feel? Curb weight? Autonomous driving? Can we get the extended version of this review?
Where’s the time stamp for the race ?
No track times between the 2 ? I noticed you were at the track.
yea because that would tosh their rhetoric
Lap times would not follow the narrative of the mustang fanboys.
I respect preserving the battery life but agree a hard compromise at that price. Ford tends to play it conservative with their EVs whether it is range or preserving the battery. Works out well in the range where you get more than promised. Hopefully with time and software updates they can loosen the reigns on the power limitations.
"Ford tends to play it conservative with their EV's..." What EV's?
I don't know if it's a software fixable issue. The pouch cells they use from LG expand quite a bit when under thermal pressure, so thermal management is an issue. So if you were to have too much thermal pressure by opening up the performance taps all the way, this could be a dangerous thing just because of the type of cells they're using. Tesla uses cylindrical can cells not pouch cells so they don't have same issue
The problem is in there thermal cooling. They skimped on it and now they have to limit power so it doesn’t over heat the batteries when ran hard.
I’m sure they’ll follow Tesla and offer power up software updates for a fee.
@@georgecostanza2695 I am including in their phev’s in that statement. Escape, Fusion, C-Max PHEV’s.

I could only imagine the degradation from a mach e in 2 years. Looking forward to the head to head track video.
These people don’t care to do apples to apples comparison. They never do
Temperature is also a big factor for EVs. I don't think they ran the Tesla again on the same route when they tested the Mach-E
Have you looked at the data for tesla degradation? It's about 1% a year on average. That I'm sure is within their margin of error.
2 years later… Tesla fires its entire charging team and Ford is allowed to use Tesla superchargers. 🤝

Buy a Taycan, or an S Plaid
I bought a Model Y 14 months ago. It is the first new car i have purchased in 23 years. The Tesla customer service is amazing, I got the car home and found a dirty spot on the ceiling and a tiny scratch on my tail light...I mean very tiny. They had a repair guy at my house at 9AM the next morning (An hour from the dealer) and the car was clean and fixed by 10AM. And buying online without the games was great,
It's to preserve the battery. Check the Tesla forums to see the folks that have ruined their battery life being a street demon.
The Y is such an easy decision. The car is so simple to use, tells you when you need to charge, has a TON of room and is a blast to drive. Road trips are amazingly fun, with the super charger network - they just work - pull in plug and you are charging. Just go drive one and you will not be disappointed.
Well Hot Diggity Damn! I’ll go get a Tesla!
I want to like teslas but I can’t seem to find a model Y that doesn’t have panel gap issues or disturbingly loud creaks while taking corners. Really depressed me every time I heard it and made the car feel like a fisher price toy even though I know it’s not.
The review does mention how ford limits their power release to 5 second bursts to prevent the battery from exploding. So there’s that.

respect to ford for trying, but Tesla is one damn hard company to beat
Frankly this review sounds as if Ford already beat Tesla is most areas that matter.
Year old model Y compared to a how old mustang? Good overview but price was inflated on Tesla by adding fsd
Didn't Tesla just raise the price on the Y?
@ james The tesla is cheaper. The pricing on this "review" is off. Just check Tesla's site.

@@josephquinto5812 you mean suspension upgrades. They do nothing for motor upgrades.

DW about it, model y is a great car.
I am a Tesla fan but Ford should have a "Sport" or "Track" mode, especially on the GT. Just an easy over the air update, right?

Honest question: Can the Tesla autopilot tell when the driver stops paying attention?
I am very happy that I will buy a fully loaded mustang mach-e gt performance edition.
I own the MY Performance and listening to this review is difficult. Him using words like messy, wobbly, loose, etc is absolutely biased and untrue. The MYP is amazing and fun to drive! Did he just say Blue cruise is a step ahead of Autopilot? 😂 Ok that’s where you lost me. Luckily it was at the end.
