I asked Glock at the 2019 Shotshow and the rep. responded "So we call sell it in all states." The 10 round mag is semi-staggered and I originally thought they did this for room on a future .40 cal S&W. My shield arms magazines have been flawless is the few thousand rounds going through mine and my wifes 43X's. This was not engineering but a political solution.

...........What a lazy explanation on the part of Glock there. Glock offers 10 round limited magazines for their other pistols, of course they could do the same for the 43x. The issue being missed here is that a 10 round 43, meaning a 10 round version of the 6 rounder gun, is the real prize here. If I can conceal a Glock 19 length grip I'll just carry a Glock 19. That sub compact length grip combined with the narrow 1" form factor is what draws me the the micro 9 type.

Correct. This is why S&W jumped off the .357sig wagon with the M&Ps. 2015, 2016 era. Big Blue said why should we let consumers, gun owners say; hey, I can buy 3 M&P series barrels, conversion designs then buy 1 .40 pistol. 🛒 I have 2 stainless KKM barrels: 9x19mm .357sig for my M&P 4.25". Glock isn't an aftermarket manufacturer like Shield Arms. They don't have to fit an existing magwell. They introduce new models with small changes every year. Why not produce a thinner Glock 19 with metal-walled magazines? Keep the double stack, just eliminate the polymer mag exterior and make the magwell and frame smaller to accommodate the slimmer mag. It would be 100% as reliable as the G19 and other double-stack Glocks. Maybe sacrificing a little magazine durability for a thinner magazine and gun. Worth it. The primary reason Glock does not make their magazines entirely from metal is that it would require them to make the magazine release from metal in order for there to be a 100% reliability. In order to make these metal mags they would need cbc machines and sheet metal stamping dies. Which they are simply not inclined to do as they acquire great profit margins. We all know the value of a standard glock mag is about 8 bucks yet glock charges about 24 per. Same goes with their pistols a glock 19 should only cost about 400 if it came with 3 mags yet they charge 600 and you get one. It's like apple products, you're being ripped off.

I ended up having to purchase 10% extra power springs for all of my pdp 18rd mags. The springs in the oem mags are severely underpowered and after about 15 - 20 full cycles through one of their magazines it immediately starts introducing failure to feeds where the next round being stripped off the magazine ends up getting pinched on the very bottom of the feed ramp and the breech face. I've probably ran over 4k rounds in my pdp and the only issues I've had have been magazine related. So far I have maybe 800 rounds on the new 3rd party springs with zero issues.

  • @johnphillips222

The actual engineering reason is the plastic magazine slot in the magazine body has to match up with a plastic magazine catch. Once the G43X and G48 were in production with plastic mag catches ...Glock had to stick to plastic magazine body cutouts (on a metal lined magazine). Glock missed that window for an OEM design with a metal magazine body slot and a metal magazine catch, due to upward and downward compatability.
Shield Arms can force a metal mag catch upgrade for the S15 mags. Glock cannot do the same as the aftermarket. Shield Arms makes good money. Glock sells more Slimlines. It is symbiotic.
