Nice job Brent... I had a couple of these early import PSL rifles, and while fun to shoot or conversation piece, my hands-on actual performance was often times inconsistent at best. Both rifles exhibited decent functioning as in bang/self-loading/bang. Reasonable accuracy was achievable w/ 3 rounds then walking from 5 and considerably more spread at 10 shots. Best groups w/me manually cycling 1 round at a time @ 100m are 1.5" 3-shots typically 2 touching and 1 a bit off the mark. semi-auto slow-fire 5 shots went 2-2.5" and 10 3-5". I sold them due to the fact that the .308WIN SAIGA in short and long barreled versions easily outperformed my PSLs in every way. I still liked the PSL guns, but I actually hunt and/or raft Alaska with these rifles and again the SAIGA was spot-on and up to task vs. PSL. Hopefully sheds a practical sense to overall familiarity. If I hunt w/ 7.62x54r I'll run the Fin M28, M39, or mostly 91/30 P/U.
The scope you use on that rifle is an 8x42 take 3 UTG Tri Barrel mounts from the front sight to the gas block and put them together put them on the barrel and when you shoot it whack like a stabilizer and strength in the barrel and help it cool down
I personally own this weapon ,I run a primary arms ffp 4x14x44 scope on mine , it loves the Bulgarian 147 grain surplus ammo,I get a consistent one moa group at one hundred yards ,not bad at all for surplus ,this rifle was meant to shoot the 147 grain ammo,170 grain and higher will beat the rear trunion to death ,along with severe corrosion of the gas piston .great video man !
First thing I did was get a low profile picatinny combloc mount that sits right over the bore. Then put a picatinny version posp scope. Its worth losing the iron sights for the low profile centering
I gave up internet for like a month and am a big fan of your channel. I was good glad this video was posted. I want a PSL but when I say that I get hit with the "get a Verp" people. I am sitting on a bunch of 7.62x54r and want to shoot cheap. Any who big fan, Semper Fi.
Where are you able to get it from? I understand some stuff slips through the cracks, but your military is high up in a list that are the most restrictive of their equipment getting into civie hands. If you DO have a source for some, shoot me an email. I'd be interested in buying. spookgook@gmail.com
Nice quick and to the point. I'm sharing your instructional video with a friend so the next trip to the range he'll have a better understanding of the weapon. Thanks for posting and not loading it down with a bunch of unnecessary talk.
Put three utg Tri Barrel mounts between the front sight in the gas block and it will help stabilize the barrel and take out the harmonics that allow you shoot better
Brent0331 ,I have been enjoying your other videos, you do a great job, very informative .Your series of videos on the effectiveness of different camo patterns is fantastic, im hooked lol
One thing he missed is that the mags are hand fitted to the rifle, So if you own one and purchase additional magazines you are most likely going to have to do some gentle filing on the front and back lips of the magazine in order to get them to fit on the rifle
There's a slightly opened up relief cut in the top of the magazine that allows you to drop in the rim, making it easier to load than all the way from the front of the magazine.
I tend to load my PSL mags from a bit back, the rim can fit through the feed lips about half way down. It's a bit easier to load them that way since it is similar to a AR magazine instead of like a pistol magazine.
i own a psl and i beleave my scope rail is not aligned with the bore. i used the pso 1 on the rifle the rifle no matter what i shoot farther out the round always goes off to the right. how can i correct this?
It's definitely more like an rpk than a SVD. That thing is by no means able to circumcise a gnat at any distance. And its more of a effective minute of man stopgap. People keep looking at the PSL as a "sniper rifle" it isnt. Its a semi-auto DMR that from my own experience can get about just shy of 3moa at 100yrds.
That would be nice, but those MP5 clones are pricey! I wished I picked up an AES-10B as well when they were really cheap. I ended up getting another Romanian RPK clone from CAI later at a decent price but I always liked the carrying handle on the AES-10B.
My friend's uncle actually brought back some captured scopes from the initial Iraq invasion. Also, that's the first time I've seen a multicam BDU with an EGA on the breast pocket
He's lucky. I never had any optic but they confiscated a lot of the stuff I did have. Still pisses me off because I know some POG smuggled the crap back.
ha, well to be specific the POGs I was referring to were the ones running the mail room. I remember taking a box in there to send some stuff back and they started pulling stuff out of it because it was not on the approved list for things to send back.
Brent0331 yeah I know he wasn't in mail, he tried hiding a captured handgun in a humvee tire headed back to the states 😂 what stuff would the mail POGs take from you?
I had a gas mask, they confiscated the filter off of it. There was also a bayonet (at that time) that wasn't allowed. The stupid thing is I re-deployed back to Iraq 6 months later and they said bayonets were acceptable then.
Brent I was wondering if you could do so videos on a few different topics? Battle belts and set ups, plat carriers and set ups, then a combo of both. Maybe some coms advice? Would it be better to have canteens on your pack or on your battle belt?
I did a video that is close to what your talking about. Check out Brent0331 Gear and equipment. I carry canteens on both. Usually a 2 Quart on my pack.
Someone has already mentioned this. At the time I made this video I was not aware of those cuts. SVD magazines do not have those cuts on them and a SVD is the weapon I was trained on when I attended Foreign weapons instructor course in Quantico, VA. Obviously the PSL magazine is heavily influenced by the SVD magazine so I never really noticed those until it was pointed out by a viewer of this video way back when I first uploaded it. To say I loaded the magazine "wrong" though is kind of a stretch. Rounds were loaded into the magazine, doesn't really matter if you use those intentions or not. In any event, thanks for watching and appreciate the comment.
We'll that NDM86 is more closely based on the SVD, so just by design it should be a more accurate rifle. The PSL is built on a RPK reciever and is closer to a big AK design chambered in 7.62x54r. An SVD is far different internally than the PSL.
Its 1960s technology but they're very good for what they are. Very basic, easy to understand and use. At the time that the Russian PSO-1 optic came into service it was state of the art.
I'll add to Brent's comment. They are a pain in the rear to Zero but once you get it set. you can make hits with it. One of the oddball things about it is that the reticle moves inside the scope when you are adjusting it.

Where are you able to get it from? I understand some stuff slips through the cracks, but your military is high up in a list that are the most restrictive of their equipment getting into civie hands.
If you DO have a source for some, shoot me an email. I'd be interested in buying.

Man I realy enjoyed this video, greetings from Romania!
Thanks brother.
I love how they have the scope set up thats easy to use
Nice quick and to the point. I'm sharing your instructional video with a friend so the next trip to the range he'll have a better understanding of the weapon. Thanks for posting and not loading it down with a bunch of unnecessary talk.
Thanks brother.
Thanks brother stay tuned.
i have every intention sir ,thanks again
thanks for the updated info, i did not know the mags were not interchangeable. i actually use your info on a RPD to use it recently, so again thanks.
Appreciate it.
One thing he missed is that the mags are hand fitted to the rifle, So if you own one and purchase additional magazines you are most likely going to have to do some gentle filing on the front and back lips of the magazine in order to get them to fit on the rifle
You're a really marine, I love your videos about all military devices and tactics.
Appreciate it.
There's a slightly opened up relief cut in the top of the magazine that allows you to drop in the rim, making it easier to load than all the way from the front of the magazine.
Thanks for the input.
So that is what that was for. Thanks for the information on that !
Picked one up last week, floating around .89- 1 MOA. I couldn’t believe my eyes. 5 shot group as well
What ammo you used
Another great instructional video. Please keep up the great work!
Thanks
it'd be very interesting to see you test out ocp. keep up the good work!
Your videos are very good content . I enjoy them alot .
Thanks
Great video brother! Keep it up!
Thank you for this very informative video that's great for us PSL newbies!
Glad I could help.
I tend to load my PSL mags from a bit back, the rim can fit through the feed lips about half way down. It's a bit easier to load them that way since it is similar to a AR magazine instead of like a pistol magazine.
Yup, you can absolutely load it that way.
Your video was on point Sir.
Thanks
Great job Brent I always have wondered the differences between the four different variants.
Thanks
Thanks for this video so much great information
dude that was fn awesome , very educational sht your giving. love your videos
Glad you found it helpful.
Excellent video Brent, and an interesting weapon.
Thanks brother.
Beautiful rifle!
Sure is.
Good info on the scope !
i own a psl and i beleave my scope rail is not aligned with the bore. i used the pso 1 on the rifle the rifle no matter what i shoot farther out the round always goes off to the right. how can i correct this?
you stamped an ega on your multicam cammies? that's awesome
Hell yeah. I still have a few EGA iron on transfers laying around from my earlier days in the Corps.
Being Romanian myself I’m sooo buying one with the Romanian ak ☝️☝️
I had a romanain WASR 10
good and concise intel. Thank you.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed.
This channel rocks, just watched the wheres waldo before he shoots you one. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks for watching.
Take 3 UTG TRI BARREL mounts from the front sight to the gas block will help
It is reliable! Gives 2 sights ! SOLD!!!!
Great video 😟👍Unfortunately I live in NZ and my PSL was destroyed I
Good stuff. Just like on the first video, folks should be familiar with these as you never know when/where you may encounter them.
Thanks brother.
Always.
esp now
Great video I actually own APS L and they're pretty awesome guns
Thanks
always top notch
Appreciate it.
Hi Brent
With your experiences firing the PSL and the Best ammo, how far can you accurately shoot the PSL?
With what kind of shot groups?
the romanian bayonette you have must be yor best friend. do not let it rust
You should make a video about that scope, how to zero it and how to use it, because the scope is offset you need to use both turrets to stay on target
Nice. I got a PTR-91 since prices went to the roof with 54
PTR-91 is a good rifle, I picked one up as well. The PSL prices went through the roof as well. I'm glad I picked one up when I did.
That would be nice, but those MP5 clones are pricey! I wished I picked up an AES-10B as well when they were really cheap. I ended up getting another Romanian RPK clone from CAI later at a decent price but I always liked the carrying handle on the AES-10B.
Awesome great information to know.
Brent0331 well he was a POG, that might explain how he was able to bring back so much shit 😂
ha, well to be specific the POGs I was referring to were the ones running the mail room.
Very good video. Best
I appreciate it.
Great video man
so why isn't the scope aligned with the barrel? wouldn't that make the shots of by a few inches?
It fulfills the same role as the SVD Dragunev
you are so right!
Thanks for the video.
Beautiful rifle.
Thanks
Be nice if you had included instructions on how to zero the scope initially
Great Video!!!
Thanks
Thanks for the video....................................... & THUMBS UP :D
Hey Gunny I was interested in your MOS and I thought it would be a great idea if you'd do a profile for 03 hundreds and others that you know about
Nice Information.
Thanks
Can you do a video with SVD dragunov
can you make on showing zeroing the scope
Did you encounter any Dragunovs as well while on tour or just PSLs? And if so, how do they compare (performance-wise)?
I encountered both. The military arms channel has a video that compares the PSL and SVD.
PSL Romanian kal.7,62×54mm R (Mosin). (7,92×57mm Mauser)?????
you loaded the mag wrong.. there are relief cuts midway to allow the round to be pushed down then back.
Thoughts on the Ndm86 vs Psl? Which one would you choose?
We'll that NDM86 is more closely based on the SVD, so just by design it should be a more accurate rifle. The PSL is built on a RPK reciever and is closer to a big AK design chambered in 7.62x54r. An SVD is far different internally than the PSL.
What do you think about the pso scopes? Are they crappy? I haven't looked through one in years since I was in Iraq.
It's a Interesting video
as always pro lesson
Thanks
Can PSLs and SVDs use .308 or is that a different cartridge?
No, the PSL & SVD are 7.62x54r. Different caliber.
your channel is outstanding. quick question how in the hell did you get multicam with an EGA on it? is it like a custom thing you ordered?
Iron on transfer, I have some left over from when we did it on our old woodland camies.
its gun rate????
would this scope work with an AK?
