  • In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves is at Zastava USA to discuss the new import of the Zastava M77 rifle. This .308 rifle is very similar to Zastava's flagship M70 AK-type rifle and almost identical to the Zastava M90 .223 rifle, with a few differences other than the obvious caliber difference. Note that per the video, furniture that works with the M70 and M90 should also work with the M77. Zastava now offers three calibers of AK to the US civilian market, including 5.56mm, .223, and of course 7.62x39. Check out this overview for a description of the features and accessories available for this new .308 AK.

It's actually a pretty small operation and they're very connected with the consumer. Had a minor issue (nothing serious) with my M70 and they were eager for me to send it in. Simple fix and quickly shipped right back to me at no cost. Constant updates and very communicative throughout the process. They're good people with good products from what I've seen and experienced.

Recent M77 owner here ✋ My big reason for wanting this rifle was the fact its an AK. VEPRs/Saigas are priced out of this world and not everyone wants to shell out the coin for a PSL or M91. If people complain about the price or capability compared to an AR10 then by all means get the latter, but this is a great option for AK fans like myself. Accuracy has actually been great using standard m80, squeezing 2 moa at 100 yards with irons my first range trip. Rob Ski reported just over 1 moa from his particular rifle with an optic and good ammo. Don't let fuddlore and "muh preban" coping disuade you from this rifle. This is a very capable platform that fills its intended role very well and so far I'm incredibly happy with it! Keep it up Zastava.

The real question to zastava is how in the hell are they making 10.5 inch barrel m92s smacking out 1.5 to 2 moa at a 100yds with irons?!?! I have one and it's more accurate than all of my AKs no matter the caliber. Absolutely insane and always impressed by their products.

This run has some much better tolerances than the old. Inspecting the work done on mine, I found that everything was pretty much as good as it can get in the AK world, like a Finnish Valmet. I say that's worth the extra cost, and that will only increase given the current political climate

I allways de 922R my rifles. Example I would call century and I could get a piston, FCG and bakelite grip delivered for under 10 dollars, would buy a NOS piston rivet from apex.
Would buy a metal stamp that said US.
Buy surplus good laminated furniture and a muzzel device.
Refinish the trigger to its crisp and stamp US, grind off the weld marks as they weld on the pistons then remove it, put a Romanian piston in and rivet it as it's really important the piston has some wiggle for reliability.
    Scribe us on the piston.
Get a surplus T nut and heat up the US stamp put it on the bakelite handguard, and put some black ink on the stamp for the butstocks and upper and lower handguard.
Put on a surplus usualy muzzle but as the scoop does not seem to do anything maybe only in full auto I have some with the scoop and some 74s with a surplus break.
I really like what Zastava USA is going I got my M70 and it's amazing, century was pinching penny's and it made them awfull now they are the best AKs out their.
I only had a month before I had to leave the US and probably can't come back for another 6 months but I have a Zastava 5.56 AK at my FFL and I plan on getting the M77.
I have a older M77 so can sell it.
Not interested in the M91 as I have a converted vepr.
Would love to see them make a M76 8mm
I have a preban M76 with no US made parts and I modified an MG15 mag so I can have a big 8mm AK that holds 27 rounds and I love it so much.
I think the M91 is being made as it's needed in a war right now lol.
I also hope Zastava could make some more Mauser rifles for hunting as they are great quality.
I know they will import the .50bmg black arrow soon.
I have no idea if they still make the MG42 clones but a semi version in the US in 8mm or .308 would sell like crazy.
It would be nice to see some more Yugo toks they also made a realy nice Sig clone in 9mm

No I will not be sniping Bin Laden from a mile away with it nor will it be a functional door kicker - but where I live in the western US, nothing but ranges and plains. Helps to send big lead at least in the vicinity of the target's vulnerable bits. All hypothetical of course - makes for an amazing hunting setup to impress all your friends and strike the fear of god into boomer hearts for its apocryphal KalashNATO configuration.

For a Witt Machine SME yeah. You get less brake performance and less noise suppression than either a brake or a silencer, however, it is a unique muzzle device and I love what it offers. You can send false noise signatures in the direction you aim, and fool just about anybody. A standard suppressor doesn't really do that.

To provide someone with multiple types of training - on the AK platform and with BRs in general - for SHTF scenarios. It makes you smarter to own and use this. You'll understand rock-and-lock, bulky af magazines; it's a DMR so marksman and rifleman skills apply moreso than with x39 rounds; the ergonomics and takedown of the rifle are nearly 1:1 AK so any other AK you get will feel natural and vice versa if you're an AK guy wanting .308. The market disagrees with your price point for several reasons. It's not a worn parts kit from a defunct combloc entity, it's new manufacture with modern metallurgy, polymers, tolerances, and compatibility with the platform's wide availability of replacement parts. It's also not exactly the same as the m70 and especially not a rus akm/ak47 etc. so if you don't know where to look in assessing the value of a rifle and just see an old pile of junk from failed communist country/khyber pass in this, that's your loss. Hopefully however they remain available for purchase for you to change your mind moving forward. tl;dr not discernably better/worse than the Galil Ace Gen 2 and $1k cheaper.

    • @BeamMonsterZeus

Nyet, it's definitely not a sniper rifle. The AK platform which this is built on does not lend itself to consistent ballistics beyond about 400m, where a proper "sniper" rifle will have its maximum deviation much farther out. This is due to the mechanical construction and "shot harmonics" which are inherent to the way gas is driven into the piston, the piston itself, etc. In other words, the Galil in .308 is actually that medium. This is more a medium between a combat and a battle rifle.
