and the fact that switch is like 4 years old, and they haven't even tried to do something with the drifts, I'm starting to believe that it was intended
Ikr. My left joycon drifts up and it’s really annoying. I just got frustrated and bought a pro controller since it’s cheaper and better. Plus I only need the joycons for motion control and multiplayer (of course I’ll give the broken one to someone I dislike lol)
Anonymous yes, all controllers have that issue but the joy-cons are smaller, different, and poorly designed leading to a much greater chance of drifting. Edit: I’d also would much rather have a pro controller over the small joycons since it’s way more comfortable
The amount of times I've had to deal with joycon drifting is ridiculous, but Nintendo at least replaced the first two ones with the built-in, year-long warranty.
Thanks for the vid, NintendoLife! Grabbed a replacement kit off Amazon for roughly $15 USD, followed the video guide, and managed to replace my favorite joycon's bad analog stick, and voila! It works perfectly! It was a one-way trip, though, as I stripped one of the tri-wing screws while closing everything up! 😅 Cheers!
Making a video about repairing a joycon with contact cleaner: -I don't have a broken joycon -I don't have contact cleaner EDIT: for the record, the video itself is good, it helped me.
Bought a repair kit on amazon for £10 (which has the replacement part and all the screwdrivers you need) and followed this video and I'm now fixed! Thanks so much. It was very fiddily to put things back but I kept trying!
Thank you so much. My son broke the stick, watched this video 2 days ago. Kit just came in the mail from Amazon. And we're up in running in about 15 minutes
Can confirm this worked for me! I bought a 2nd hand switch from someone on Facebook and they failed to mention the absolutely awful joy con drift in the left joy con. Tried the contact cleaner ('WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner' with the lil straw on it) method. 1 short blast and a nice massage and it works good as new! :D Thanks! Thumbs up and Subbed!
UPDATE: A little bit of the drift has come back, but it is absolutely not as bad as when I started out needing to fix it. If the drift comes back, give the analog stick another few sprays with the contact cleaner from different angles and it should continue to work! (Or that's what has worked so far for me at least, anyway).
I used 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙧 because I listened to the video without watching it. Turns out there’s a totally different thing called 𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙧 that he used.

Always have loved your vids and when I was searching for guides I saw yours and immediately knew it'd be great and thorough.
@@Snurrt thx for the advice. I watched a video before that said the joycons drift because of a problem with the controller itself so i appreciate your help. I'll look into it later cuz $80 a pair is a bit much
Easy solution. Buy PS4 controllers. Now he'll be jealous of how good of a condition they are in. No offense but Switch controllers are not so reliable. Older Nintendo controllers and consoles are better. I've had a few accidents with my 3DS and the only thing that could damage it was water. I don't think I had accidents with my wii remotes but they look stronger than joy-cons.

Some dude commenting Like i don't upload anymore Are you okay? Do you seriously doubt this person? Because news flash, abusive parents exist. This isn’t a fucking world where people have happy fucking lives all the time. And just because somebody makes a comment about it doesn’t mean it’s not fucking real. You, sir, are ignorant as hell and need to get the FUCK off of Reddit for a day in your life.
Some dude commenting Like i don't upload anymore There is literally nothing to misunderstand. Also, I’m 16, so get your facts straight and don’t assume. I cuss a lot when upset, as many others do. The fact of the matter is, you left a rude, ignorant comment and tried to turn that against me when I called you out for it. You clearly have no clue how intense abuse is. Nobody, and I mean nobody, asked for you to leave such a comment. Also, the fact you left two comments in response to my one comment shows that you, clearly, feel as though you need to prove your “dominance” online, though, all you’ve proved is that you are disrespectful, full of assumptions, and truly need some time off of the internet. Thank you, and have a nice day. Perhaps one day, you will realise the idiocy that was the comment you left. Until then, I wish you good luck.
OMGOSH THANK YOU!!! I can finally play peacefully without getting annoyed because my controllers keep drifting. And all I needed to do was recalibrate them. Thank you so much!😁❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for giving me the confidence to fix it myself. Both of my original ones had this issue, and I bought two new ones, but really wanted all 4 for Mario Party. the Nuclear Option fixed it, cost me only 15 bucks for the kit and both thumb stick replacement pieces.
I’ve actually never heard of the contact cleaner thing before. Only compressed air. I’m gonna try that. Also, I’ve seen some videos of people disassembling joycons before, and this video is really good and FAR more entertaining - which obviously is a plus.
7:49 and 8:01 are optional for those who don't want to remove a lot of ribbon cables, but it does limit your movement during the analog stick replacement so just be extra careful.
Another method is to simply put some thick paper under the stick to provide the potentiometers with better contact with the plates Nothing over 1.5mm though as that could cause more damage
Nintendo usually (and i assume still do) have warranty on the lifetime of all their products, you even hear of game and watch and NES systems still being sent to them for repairs. If you haven't pulled it apart or your afraid to you can always contact them for help or to send your controller to them for repair. I've done that recently with a wii remote and a first gen 3ds (wii remote buttons stopped working and the 3ds battery had fully died beyond charging) and they were more than happy for me to send to them to fix for a small fee. (this is Nintendo of Australia mind, I live nearby thier factory offices so i could drop off and pick up my repaired items. Unsure about Nintendo in other countries besides here and Japan, but I'd assume its world wide)
@@PixelSP I'm lucky to have PS4 since I keep having accidents (despite the fact that I am very protective of them [ironic]) with my DS4s and they are still in perfect condition.
Cheers for the video mate! Easy to follow and now it works perfect!
@Anonymous they really nailed the pro controller drifting on it is a very small chance
Because they wasted money on filling it with said shit instead of acutal quality.
Cheers!
Making a video about repairing a joycon with contact cleaner:
-I don't have a broken joycon
-I don't have contact cleaner

Bought a repair kit on amazon for £10 (which has the replacement part and all the screwdrivers you need) and followed this video and I'm now fixed! Thanks so much. It was very fiddily to put things back but I kept trying!
Ok, got it. Alex is telling me to coat my entire switch with WD-40.
So how did it go?
Just fill a tub with it and DROP it into the tub. Do not place it in the tub, DROP it in the tub
...and then light it...🔥 😛

Are you okay? Do you seriously doubt this person? Because news flash, abusive parents exist. This isn’t a fucking world where people have happy fucking lives all the time. And just because somebody makes a comment about it doesn’t mean it’s not fucking real. You, sir, are ignorant as hell and need to get the FUCK off of Reddit for a day in your life.
Some dude commenting Like i don't upload anymore
There is literally nothing to misunderstand.

7:49 and 8:01 are optional for those who don't want to remove a lot of ribbon cables, but it does limit your movement during the analog stick replacement so just be extra careful.
Another method is to simply put some thick paper under the stick to provide the potentiometers with better contact with the plates
Nothing over 1.5mm though as that could cause more damage
Glad to see this video come out! The switch already has a warranty, but for most people, it’s most likely up by now! Thanks for this, Alex!
