    OMG... As a Malaysian, if you are a foreigner and stay for 2 years and still don't have a friend from Malaysia, then I can call it a weird situation. I know my Malaysian people very well. We are very friendly, kind, not hypocritical, willing to assist people, rich with a smile, and easy to get along with. You smile at them and stay humble and behave yourself and you'll get a friend just like that. You don't have to do extra kinds of stuff to attract them. Just smile at them and they will smile back to you. If you approach them, they will simply accept you kindly. So easy to make friends with Malaysian people. I can guarantee you that. They like to interact with foreigners but they are not a kind of busybody type of people. If you like to be alone they will stay away from you. They are very tolerant, very understanding, and respectful people. My people.
    UNLESS..... if you are rude, misbehavior, misconduct, and being not polite as a foreigner. That they don't like. They even hate that. Some of the foreigners bring together their bad habits like spitting everywhere, being dirty, and bringing their bad culture to our country and our people don't like that. We like foreigners but we will not tolerate them if you are against our religion and culture. You have to respect that. We have been colonized before and we don't want to be colonized again. Even colonized by the culture. We are what we are. We are the Malaysian. We chose what we are. Don't try to teach us what we have to do but we are open for friendly discussion.

    The Tunisian guy... Saying our food taste like shit, like, do you even know what country you are living right now? How can you not have any respect even a tiny bit towards the host country you are living in? It might not be your palate but you can simply say that it is not to your liking, yet you choose to use the dirtiest word ever to describe things that we Malaysian eats daily. Like most comments mentioned here, no wonder he don't have any Malaysian friends here. He even tries to make enemies with Malaysians here by how arrogance and disrespectful he is towards the people and the food culture here.

    Not ‘pissed off’ but here’s my inner self dialogue:
    1 : “Pity him experiencing racism among classmates why & what was happened !?!”
    2 : “Okay?.. so the negative experiences aren’t come local?”
    3 : “Owh with that attitude. no wonder he experienced that!”
    Not allowing racism, but in Malaysia we uphold on “respect is earned” + “you get what you’ve done” concept, especially when you’re in multicultural communities. When you are not sensitive (just prioritising “be who you are” but neglecting politeness aspect) & aren’t adapting with ‘common norms’, you will finally harder to get around.

    As Malaysian student in the UK, i’ve noticed quite a few people like the Tunisian guy at my uni. Not sure for others but im always put up a bit of a self-barrier when interacting with people who speak in a harsh manner.

  • @euyie8738
    @euyie8738 21 день тому +172

    I can relate with the Tunisian guy. I once shared a room at uni with Africans, East Europeans and Mainland Chinese respectively. While Msians can be friendly to outsiders easier because of the country’s diversity, they can also become less friendly or even hostile towards those who are too direct or a bit harsh in tone or demeanour. Msians are mostly soft in nature where they find brash demeanour from certain people coming from west African countries such as Nigeria to be rude or insensitive. On the other hand they are more likely to be able in making frens with Africans from Sudan or Somalia as their demeanour is almost similar to ordinary Msians

    • @pjninja9546
      @pjninja9546 21 день тому +31

      There's this thing when discussing about cultures called "high context culture" and "low context culture". In "high context cultures", a lot of what's exchanged when communicating is actually unspoken and "understood" while in "low context cultures" things are more direct and spoken. There's usually a bit of a clash when people from these two cultures interact. Malaysia and most of East and South-East Asia tends to be on the "high context" spectrum. This could be part of the reason for the friction.

    • @secrets.295

      Exactly what I was thinking and judging by the way he talks, it's obvious that he is a very blunt person. I have one arab classmate before and nobody likes him including the teachers because all he does is argue with him. Non stop. That's just not how u do stuff in Asia. I mean it's just common sense, if you come to the country u need to assimilate to some extent at least.

    • @euyie8738
      @euyie8738 21 день тому +20

      @@secrets.295 To me it’s actually it’s ok to argue especially when one is seeking knowledge. However it’s the demeanour, the extreme body gestures and the exasperated faces which come along with an argument that often caught locals by surprise. In these parts of the world the frustrated and exasperated faces only come out during extreme arguments while for the western part of side of the world particularly India, Middle East and Africa etc the expression used is more physical in nature but it’s considered common. To them it’s normal but to Msians it’s borderline confrontational. There’s one guy from Zaire who used to live just next door to my dormitory. He always smile even when he’s angry. Like any students coming from west and central Africa, he was way more inquisitive compared to the ever shy Msian students. Each time the local students wanted to ask the lecturer questions but too shy to ask themselves, he became their go to guy. In the end he was regarded as one of the most famous guy in the entire faculty. He even married to a Msian after graduation. Last time I heard he became a senior director for a government agency back in his home country.

    Dude I discovered your channel yesterday and these videos you do of what people from other countries think about Malaysia is really cool! As a Malaysian, it's giving me a view of the country that I never had and it's now me that's having a culture shock 😂! I did not realise that there was this community of people from all over the world interacting with each other in KL - by that I mean the exchange groups etc. That's really cool, and it's fantastic to have these fresh insights from people who are here the first time. Also it's amazing that the first Asian country that Lucia from Argentina is visiting is Malaysia, when I heard that I had 2 reactions: (1.) It's great that Malaysia is her first Asian country as it's a place where she can get bits of all of Asia in one place and it's not as intense as some other Asian cities, and (2.) oh god please let us give a good impression to her and not let Malaysia sour her opinion of all of Asia 😂

    We notice from some residents in Malaysia, whether for study, work or trade, ingratitude and ungratefulness towards this country that received and welcomed them as dear guests. Welcome to Malaysia everyone

    This is not uncommon for Northern African always see themself superior ..actually i find he is the problem..only mingle with westerners and and dont have Malaysian friends shows who he is..
    Why not u just end your study here and go to German and UK the place with no discrimination towards northern African..
    And lastly saying food taste like shit shows how this Northern African see themself even though Moroccan dishes are ranked below Malaysia and even ranked at 30s position.What a joke.

    The Tunisian have to be friend with local if u wanna know what secreat place and food here. Until u never knw some local friend here. U will not know the local thing and special thing here. Just smiles and meet some new friend here. If u wanna know the secret and special thing here.

    The Tunisian guy should reflect on himself first because of the shitty attitude he showed. Malaysian will definitely avoid someone with that attitude. We don't like rude people, we avoid somebody like him.

    Great interviews:) However, the hateful feedback on food from the tunisian students were a bit uncalled for, and their intentions of experiencing new cultures, were very much in contradictory to how they have been conducting themselves here. I am not surprised by the lack of interactions they have with Malaysian classmates as they seem to behave quite arrogantly.

    Actually, we don't care what the others think about Malaysia. Being an underrated country is also not a problem to us. The most important thing is we can live happily with everybody.
