IronBornRider -- you might consider checking out Baker Driveline. They offer a complete gear cluster with a 6th gear. I'd imagine that gear cluster won't be cheap. Ride safe.
After using the kit to increase the power to 90 or even 100 or 120+, it is only necessary to reduce the final gear ratio, because the increased power can make up for the "defects" caused by reducing the final gear ratio. As far as I know, a 6-tooth kit costs more than $2200. Think about it, when we get such a big increase in power, it's really smart to lower the final gear ratio a little, what we get is a lower cruising speed, a higher top speed (if needed), and still far more power than stock.

Theoretically, if the transmission gear ratio or the final gear ratio does not change, there is basically no big difference. Let's be scientific, a simple scenario, if the final gear ratio is 3.000, the engine is 3500 rpm and the speed is 100 km/h, you have 50 hp to drive at this time. When your becomes 100 horsepower, the final gear ratio is 3.000 and the engine is 3500 rpm, guess what? The speed will still be 100 km/h. Sometimes people talk about cruising speed at low rpm, but in the end it still depends on the transmission gear ratio or the effect of the final gear ratio. Whether it is 50 hp or 100 hp even over 150 hp, it can drive the 3.000 gear ratio I am assuming now, the only difference are how short in the timing we need acceleration. The engine converts the horsepower through the RPM plus gear, and there is enough horsepower to drive a lower gear ratio, or to reach a lower gear ratio, which is why there are 5 gears or 6,7+ gears, as opposed to the 4 gears that prevailed long ago. With this knowledge, we will find a fact that if the gear ratio is not changed, whether it is the transmission gear ratio or the final gear ratio, even the diameter of the tires will be affected (according to the academy, the tires are the final gear ratio), when all the conditions related to the "gear ratio" are not changed, the only thing that is affected by the higher horsepower is to shorten the acceleration time. So, when the horsepower is greatly increased, if we want to change the engine speed for cruising, for example, to get 100km/h at 3500 rpm, by changing to a lower gear ratio, we may be able to do 100km/h cruising at 3000 rpm. Also, because we get more power, we have enough power and a short distance to push the lower gear ratio. If the power is not increased, it often takes a long acceleration distance to reach the lower gear ratio, and in extreme cases, it is not even possible to reach it. This applies to all vehicles.
Finally! I read through all these comments waiting on someone to tell him the 1250 kit makes no difference in rpm with the stock 883 gearing. I have an old 883 that'll only do 95 wide open. If I had a 1250 kit it would still do 95 wide open. It would get up to 95 much faster but that's it. Same sprockets, same transmission, same top speed and rpm. A stock 883 with 1200 sprockets would outrun his 1250 with 883 sprockets on top end.
Can u explain the ecm and the fuel tuning I wanna covert I have to rebuild all engine I'm thinking the 1200 conversion is worth it right now..... Recalibration? Costs would be helpful
Also, kudos on the power. Did you “NEED” it? Probably not. But if it’s what makes you more comfortable getting out on the highway more, than it was worth it. Which helmet were you using to highway vlog?
I already am happy with the power of my stage 1 Iron 883 but I do want just a little more but don't wanna do the 1200 conversion so I was wondering if there is a way beyond the stage 1 to get like 10% more hp and torque? Im probably getting about 55 hp and 55 ft lbs torque right now with stage 1 tune air cleaner and exhaust but would be very satisfied to get closer to 60 for each without converting the engine. Any ideas? I haven't synod the bike so my estimates are butt dyno so maybe getting a little less or a little more than I stated but I'd say it's close to 55/55.
@@IronBornRider OK cool. If I upgrade cams do I need to upgrade anything else like clutch and/or throttle body or anything like that or can I just do cams? Also would I need a different tune?
If I had to do it all over again I’d just start out with the 1200 and save a bit of money. The 1250 kit might have more performance advantage especially if you add on hammers other services. But at the time I wasn’t as knowledgeable in that area and would’ve been better for me personally to just get a sportster 48 or 1200 to start
Hi! Nice video. I am looking to upgrade my Iron 883 with the 1250 kit from Hammer. Now I am in the "collecting data" state, so your video is very helpful. :) One question please, not regarding the kit, what kind of headlight fairing are you using? It looks really cool! :) and what's the name of the song from minute 9:00? :)) thanks and keep up the nice videos!
Thanks bro! It's a fairing I bought off of amazon, I think it's called a bikini fairing? I'm not sure what the song name is, I just pulled some music from epidemic sound. Sorry I couldn't help you further.
Anyone ever figure out why it has that slight hesitation at start sometimes? Mine does that too but will also flash a cel for like 3 seconds as well but no codes and runs fine. Most times it doesn't do it but like every 4-5 starts it will do that hesitation for me.
Thanks appreciate it! I didn't install the kit, although I probably could have. As it was my first bike I wanted peace of mind knowing a certified mechanic installed it lol.
@@WTFAsians001 I got a solo mechanic to do it for me for a really low price. I think I paid him like $500 including fresh fluids. But typically I remember getting quoted around $600-800
First stage short shots , screaming eagle breather and fuel pack is all you need on a Iron 883 . 80mph on freeway at 4000 rpm with more torque if you need is great . Itll keep up with 1200 and Milwaukees on highway
I had the stage one installed, and I found that at 80mph there wasn't a whole lot more torque left to be able to make quick/sudden jumps in speed that you might need on the highway. Would be interesting to see a little race between the two 😂
My iron 883 has tappy valves (old sewing machine)... I always hear tappy valves are happy valves, but I'm a car mechanic and in a car that is bad. Is this fairly normal for Harley's?
Cars have hydraulic lifters that take up the slack in the valve train. Bikes have solid lifters so there is a specified gap between the rocker/ cam lobe and the valve. The gap causes a slight taping noise.
It's not the valves that are tapping its the rocker shaft hitting the retaining bolt. There is an aftermarket part called rocker lockers that I actually just got in the mail for mine that helps with the tapping
@@KtuluLeaderRise That's correct. You can just do the big bore kit by itself, you don't necessarily need an exhaust/air cleaner though it would help. hammerperf.com/883conversions.shtml

Got my ss hooligan for 1k plus.1300 for labor ..upgraded clurch and basket ,1k with labout ..400 for the tuner and 500 for the dyno tune ..
@@jakefromstatefarm9948 wat you upgrade about the clutch?
Also, kudos on the power. Did you “NEED” it? Probably not. But if it’s what makes you more comfortable getting out on the highway more, than it was worth it. Which helmet were you using to highway vlog?
No one ever NEEDS anything really 🤣 I think I used a Home Depot bucket with holes cut out. Not DOT approved.
@@IronBornRider lol
Great content!
Thanks for watching!
Cam upgrade might be a good way to go
@@IronBornRider OK cool. If I upgrade cams do I need to upgrade anything else like clutch and/or throttle body or anything like that or can I just do cams? Also would I need a different tune?
Nice video, thanks. Subbed
Appreciate it!
are there any particular reason to go with the 1250 kit and straight up buying the iron 1200 ? just out of curiosity
If I had to do it all over again I’d just start out with the 1200 and save a bit of money. The 1250 kit might have more performance advantage especially if you add on hammers other services. But at the time I wasn’t as knowledgeable in that area and would’ve been better for me personally to just get a sportster 48 or 1200 to start
i think the main issue is the amount of teeth on the pulley more than hp and tq figures
Hi!
@@IronBornRider Thanks a lot for the info, it is just enough! :) keep up the good work with the videos and ride safe!
Hammer has all the data, different pipes different cams they dyno it all.... the did youtube video of their 1275 bike makes 120hp
Anyone ever figure out why it has that slight hesitation at start sometimes? Mine does that too but will also flash a cel for like 3 seconds as well but no codes and runs fine. Most times it doesn't do it but like every 4-5 starts it will do that hesitation for me.
Asking if 120 mph is enough is crazy
Be careful on the highway as the frame geometry and weight. Big trucks can blow you off the road or suck you into their draft.
Appreciate the tip!
I ride mine on the interstate all the time... I don't get blown around that bad to the point I worry about being sucked in.
I live in Gaithersburg and wanting to do this to my 2006 883 as well, can you recommend your mechanic to me I’d really appreciate the info
You must have a sleeping baby at home because that looks like me pushing my sportster away from my house for the same reason Not to wake anyone up.
Yeah for sure, though she's aging out of her naps now so I can start the bike when I'm at home Lol.
More like a wife who slaps 🤪
There should be a kit, for brakes ,more power needs better brakes.
What front fairing and fuel cap is that?
Hey man! What gloves are those I love the design on them
Fast mask 👍
@@IronBornRider thanks man!
Did you install the kit by yourself?? Your bike is niceeee btw!
Thanks appreciate it! I didn't install the kit, although I probably could have. As it was my first bike I wanted peace of mind knowing a certified mechanic installed it lol.
Ohh gotcha, how much for the installation because I am thinking about getting it done too from a dealer!
@@WTFAsians001 I got a solo mechanic to do it for me for a really low price. I think I paid him like $500 including fresh fluids. But typically I remember getting quoted around $600-800
Ok thank you!!!
I live in Gaithersburg wanting to do this to my 2006 883 as well, can you recommend your mechanic to me I’d really appreciate the info
Would be interesting to see a little race between the two 😂
Would u recommend just buying a 1200 off the bat instead of getting a 883 and doing the conversion kit?
I’d personally recommend that route, it’s cheaper.
@@IronBornRider thank you!
My iron 883 has tappy valves (old sewing machine)... I always hear tappy valves are happy valves, but I'm a car mechanic and in a car that is bad. Is this fairly normal for Harley's?
I saw a video from revzilla that said something similar, though they didn’t really explain why that is. 🤷♂️
What seat is that? I like it
Thanks! It’s a la pera stubs
Can you link me everything I need for a stage 4 conversation please I have a 2020 iron 883 and it’s stock at the moment
I've never done a full stage 4, so I don't know if I'd be able to help you. All I did was exhaust, air cleaner, tuner, and a big bore kit.
@@IronBornRider is that how you were able to get it to 1250 conversion ? Can you link me those ?
@@KtuluLeaderRise That's correct. You can just do the big bore kit by itself, you don't necessarily need an exhaust/air cleaner though it would help. hammerperf.com/883conversions.shtml
@@IronBornRider thank you so much
I’m glad you explained why you were pushing the bike. At first I was like “oh no, be broke it! 😂” I like you vlogging while riding. It suits you. More natural. I remember the Rio being just a theater, arcade, and like a couple of restaurants. Is the bomb Mexican place still there? When I was a teenager I took a girl on a date there and sat on the docks by the water. My wallet chain got stuck in the dock and I had to get security there to cut the chain to get my wallet out. 😂
I’m guessing that date ended right when she saw that chain 🤣. I kid. You mean the gas station Mexican joint? Yeah man it’s still there and still serving up some mean tacos. I usually get the sandwich with the holy trinity of hot dog, ham, and I think it’s turkey?
IronBornRider it was the 90’s. At least it wasn’t a ball chain choker. 😂
NevermoreMoto I’m not gonna fake, I had jnco jeans that swept the floors when I walked.
IronBornRider ..........I would have lied.
NevermoreMoto jncos and hair highlights. Best time of my life.
I was wondering does it guzzel down gas faster whats the mpg with this kit
With a proper tune it shouldn’t, although you may find yourself riding more aggressively which might impact your mpg
Really like those low rpm’s dont ya…
Hard to make a motovlog with a bike screaming
Random? What kind of ties to use for your sissy bar. Trying to strap my bag
I usually use regular bungee cords

What for Song in the background?
Thx!
I can't remember the artist, it's from Epidemic Sound which has a collection of artists/music.
What was your average speed during the break in period when you were keeping it under 3500 and 4000 rpms?
What gear specifically? During the break in the top speed I could get to was like 50-55 I think
@@IronBornRider mainly 5th but just in general I wanted to see what you were doing, I saw online it was all the way up to 70 for older models. But thanks I’ll keep that in mind while I’m going through it

Anyone know which HP 1250 kit this is from hammer? 😊
where did you get your gloves?

Where did you get your seat?

Nice video man, but that music in back ground was a massive off putting in continue to watch video.
Yeah sorry about that man. I was still trying to figure out the whole UA-cam thing in my earlier days
How's the vibration with the kit
It’s way worse lol, it actually loosened my exhaust pipe bolts. I wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t heard the clanging from the loose bolts.

Nice video. The bike IS the soundtrack, so lose the background music. It's just annoying and covers the sounds that bike enthusiasts want to hear.
Makes sense. I figured that out eventually. Unfortunately there’s a bit of a learning curve in motovlogging. Thanks for the feedback
yes!!!

Why do you keep coasting along with your clutch in,? you did it a lot during the video. Not good riding form bud as your not in proper control. Go down through the gears as you slow rather than just coasting along with the clutch in and use the engine braking to help slow down
I know...it’s a bad habit that I’m trying to break. It’s a bad habit I picked up from driving manual cars and I’d coast with the clutch in.
@@IronBornRider still bad doing it in a car lol 🤣 Bike looks really good though 👍
@@leehan73 thanks man. That’s all that matters lol 😂
Third gear at 50 mph? Kick it up to 5th...
What is it with Americans saying can it handle the highway. Course it can, you have a top speed limit of like 70-80 mph. 125s can do that
I have a grom, it cannot do 70-80 without heavy modification nor is it legal to go on the highway with a 125cc bike
it can handle the highway b4 the 1250 kit .....a 750 honda can handle the highway
An old honda cb350 will handle the highway
