  • When I wanted to build my own suitcase drum kit at home for busking, jamming or rehearsals, I searched but I couldn't find a video that stepped me through it so I decided to make one instead. Let me know your thoughts on what you see and how it works out for you. Let me know any tips or tricks you pick up and any ideas you might have for how to do it even better than I did :-)

    The ink to mark the holes was genius!

    Also, the rubber band and floor Tom leg rubber to hold the cymbal - genius! I've just done that on my ride. :)

      Sometimes the simplest ideas that work the best are right in front of our noses :-)

    I've used a marchingdrum hardcase for mounting my bass in. When I packing up, I put my cymbals in it, fold my kick up. Put my sticks at the other side and some stands. Put the lit on....and go. Together with a smal bag I can travel around wherever I want! Fits in my car, can take it with me by bike and by.foot!
    It's a bit differend, but you did a marvelous job!

    Treasure Chest Drum Set! That would give a real deep bass kick.

    A Piccolo snare would have been a better choice and with good cymbals and tuning it would probably be pretty cool especially in a folk band or something, great video too!

    Nice kit! And sounds pretty good, too. You could always upgrade to better heads but then it wouldn't be a cheap DIY kit would it?

    Warwick from Wazinator Australia here. I make a suitcase kick drum pickup system called the Wazinator Zombie. I'm wondering if I could send you one to try out? thanks

      I’m making a suitcase kit currently, and will be doing a you tube vid.
      If you’re still offering I’d love to try it and feature it in my vid

    How would you recommend cutting down a tom where the arm holding up actually goes into the drum itself? Just drill a new hole for the arm to go into?

    • @giweinberg
      @giweinberg  5 років тому

      Absolutely give that a try it should work fine.

    A table saw instead of a jig saw would make it perfectly straight.

    Best suitcase drum set I've seen! What are the dimensions of the suitcase you used?

    • @giweinberg
      @giweinberg  8 років тому +1

      Hi mate thanks for the kind words. I don;'t have the kit anymore as I sold it so I can't tell you the exact specs but I have made a few of them with slightly different sized hard shelled suitcases and I would say that you should try to get the biggest sized case you can as it just makes it all a little easier to get everything packed inside :-)

    • @giweinberg
      @giweinberg  5 років тому

      Not exactly sure but I always buy the biggest one they have in the op-shop to have the best chance of everything fitting in it.

    hey man, can you try to make a pipe drum and make a video about it, as there seems to be no place that has. I wanted one that is compact and easy to move so I can play it for busking...
    if you do make a video can you please crop this comment and add it to the beginning thanks, Ryan

    hey what type of drum kit did you use to make this? And what type of mount is it?

    • @giweinberg
      @giweinberg  8 років тому

      HI mate this was a cheap second hand DIXON kit that has a great type of single mount for the 2 toms. I have also made these kits with the other type of standard double tom mounts you usually find on cheap kits but it meant I had to get a little more creative with figuring out how to mount the cymbal :-)

    Maybe i'm not aware of the problem but the whole concept makes no sense to me. Why don't you take the bass drum hard case with wheels and organize the storage space so it suits one in one without damaging each other. Can't imagine any situation where it would makes any difference to take a 24x24x24 hard case or that one. While the sound quality of normal kit and this parody on bad kit is just incomparable.
    But obviously thumb up - good work. Maybe i just don't get the goal. :))
