    Believe it or not this brings back a lot of memories for me. When I first decided I wanted to learn to play drums (age 5) I had a similar setup although not as elaborately put together given my age at the time. Only major difference is I didn’t have an actual snare so I used an old original Nintendo nes that I had that didn’t work because it made a similar sound to a snare lol. Oddly enough in your video you kept referencing a TKO drum kit which was my first actual drum kit when I was about 8. Mine was blue. It was given to me by a friend of my dads and served me for many years of learning. Great job with your video. Really hit me right in the feels. Lol

    Iv'e been subscribed to rdavidr for a year in a half and then I saw this video pop up in my recommended. That's when I remembered, this was the first video that Iv'e watched by him. And that's what made me fall in love with his videos because I like wood shopping and I play the drums.

      connor king open your kick drum and fill it to the middle with old clothes or something like that. i did that with mine and now it sounds more like a decent drum. 😂😂 hope you improve that sound bro

      Connor King I have a used pearl forum kit and it sounds amazing.(it's the one on my profile picture). It sounded ok when I first got it, but when I put new heads on it and tuned it up, it sound great. All it takes is some good heads and good tuning to make any kit sound good!!

    • @ButteredToast32

      I agree with that, the sound from your drums is mostly going to be based on heads and tuning.

    Awesome video!
    Great idea! I really could have used a setup like this awhile back.
    Way late in the game but one idea i had would be fold-away spurs on the sides of the case to help stabilize it.

    I made my first drum set in High school using an oval suitcase for the base drum and round ice cream cartons from 31 Flavors reinforced on the bottom with duct tape and flipped over for the Tom's. The Tom's were mounted on the suitcase with Tinkertoys. For the snare I put one of the cartons on a metal TV tray placed on a styrofoam ice chest and put metal toy coins on the tray to produce the buzz of the snares. My stepfather made a bass drum pedal from pieces of wood, wire, a spring, etc. I had one cheap real cymbal and another one I made from a can lid and strips of metal, and a camera tripod and music stand for two cymbal stands.

  • @390comet
    @390comet 4 роки тому +1

    An Idea would be to use rubber or foam padding in the drum and cymbal mounts works good. Also the possibility of engineering small portable leg brackets on the suitcase for stability. Great drum kit!

    For the kick drum causing the cymbals to activate, you could try rubber sleeves for your cymbal stands. It won't help with the ride (splasher?), but will dampen enough.

    This is actually really cool! The kit itself only has one problem, and that's that I thought the hihats were a little too tight. Maybe they should be loosened to give them a bit more tone. They kinda just sound like two pieces of tin being hit together.
    Any way, the rest of it is super nice!
