When you hear about the latest cool drum kit so you search for it on UA-cam and the first link is your amazing talented friend who already has one and filmed a great demo!
Hey buddy! Thanks for visiting! If you ever want to check it out in person let me know. ;)
Just have to say that your presentation was very convincing and so glad because I went and got this and with me doing acoustic gigs it's awesome so thank you my fellow drummer!! You definitely sold me on this product 🙂
Thanks for the demo! It's nice to finally see some competition in the suitcase drum market.
I just ended up making my own. That little man it's heavy as hell but everything goes inside including cymbals.
Good stuff, stacking the tom and snare was a revelation, stole that...TOCA owes you some money dude, you convinced me too. couldn't agree more with your assessment- It sounds good as a kit and is about half as loud, really good for an acoustic set. Cheers
your playing really brings out the kit's dynamic range, which is impressive for such a small, portable, and inexpensive kit.
Thank you. The kit is very versatile, especially when mic'd.
Dude, your playing is awesome. It really made that kit shine.
Thank you my friend! It really is a cool kit.
Got this from my wife for Christmas,it's a great tool for a drummer to have
Thank you so much for this video showing off the Kickboxx! It looks great for busking. ❤
I've used it several times now for busking! I have clips on my IG: rickyintampa
Great informative demo, great chops too!
wonderful review, we are happy to see you enjoying it. thanks!
Wonderful product. And great meeting you all at NAMM 2020. Hopefully we can line up some booth demos in 2023. ;)
great demo - thanks!
Sounds surprisingly good 🙂👍
It sounds fantastic man 🫡👏👏👏👏👏🙏
A bandmate got a similar kit over the summer. Mainly for rehearsals so he doesn't have to constantly break down his kit and drag it everywhere. But he's also used it on a few pop-up gigs where a drummer was needed at the last minute. It's worked out fine for him. Yet a drummer friend of my brother refuses to use anything but a real kit despite the fact that he's pushing 50, a bad back, and a DUI two years ago that totalled his car and he has to rely on others to pick him up and drive him around. This kit would be perfect for him so he can take the bus or train to get to gigs since he's got another eight years on his loss of driving privileges.
They are convenient like that if you don't go overboard with too many more additions.
Don’t drink and drum.
Just received mine in the mail and it's got a amazing sound!!!!
i came here just looking for a nice demo of the kit just to have this man rip on this set his groove is crazy
Thanks bro..
They sound dope! Yeah!
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome
Cool kit. I'd use my own snare tho and use the attached snare as a second tom. Kick and tom sound great just i would add my own snare. Nice demo!
I set up like that sometimes when I want that little extra edge. ;)
That's it, I'm selling by Tama cocktail jam kit. I'm a session player now (pandemic obliges), but as soon as I get the call, this will go on the road! Sounds great. Tom is significantly better than the Tama IMHO, and the bass-drum .... the cocktail jam kit just can't cut it. A 16" shell, with no second head? Sounds like a whimpy floor tom. No way. I got the Tama from a very low price from a touring cat and I got why he didn't care about them. Sounds lame, even if the design is cool. Besides - I never ever had to play drums standing up, and I always ended carrying another snare and snare basket anyway for use with brushes (even tho the Tama snare is actually quite good). I remember Toca percussions, I have a couple of things from them. Always great quality and great sound. I believe a percussion company, for a kit this small, are better than a drumset company. More used to make smaller things sound great. The snare isn't that good, but it's clean, and I can take the one good thing about the Tama - the snare... - and switched it up. Or just put a trigger and call it a day... which I'll probably end up doing. Either way I tried to make my own case drumset and quickly gave up. It takes a lot of craftmanship and experience to make it *sound* good. This is no small feat! And the price IS right!
Very cool! You won't be disappointed. I have a pro drummer friend of mine in Nashville who bought a set after seeing this, and currently uses these when goes on tour as an opener.
Cuando llegan a México? Y cuál seria su precio?
Really Nice il also could be an option for small place to practice :-)
Great video!
What are you using for your cymbal? I need one of those clamps
Nice
Ha my dude u are rippin that box up. I need to borrow some of your talent
Thank you brother, you're too kind.
Great demo! It's a really cool looking kit. Do you think the snare could be used as a 2nd tom instead - ie. if one were to use a standalone snare, would the kickboxx snare sound any good as a tom, and would there be room to configure it that way?
Sure there's room on the mounting arms. And yes you can use the snare as a second tom since they are the exact same size, just turn the snare off.
@@videotampa How does the volume compare to a regular kit? And do you still have one for sale?
Good drumming
Thanks bud.
My Cajon player has one of these . We bought a DW kick pedal , I currently have the bass head tensioned to about 70 lbs . Still having a hard time getting a nice sound from the kick . Any suggestions? What type of bass beater do you recommend for a kick this small ?
I would say just a tradition felt beater. And avoid the heavy, hard plastic beaters if at all possible. The less dense the beater, the lower the note on a small diameter kick drum head.
Cool video... that thing sounds great. And smooth drumming! Can I ask what you're using for a drum throne here?
A foldaway tripod camping stool.
I'm thinking of purchasing for recording in my apartment since I prefer recording real grooves as opposed to trying to program them. Is this a solid option to get real time grooves across (compression, eq-ing, production stuff considered)?
It would be great since smaller diameter, low mass drums are usually easier to mic and control in a small studio setting.
@@videotampa Thanks man! Still haven't purchased one yet but looking to. Great video :)
to me it sound fair but it folds up in a suitcase which is super cool. it all depends what you like and can afford.....right ? my real kit is the sonor bop kit all maple shells.....love it. but i practice on my dw smart kit to keep my wife and neighbors happy. the best investment i made and fun to play at all hours of the night, the dw smart kit has the same rebound as a regular kit. i watch tv or listen to radio talk shows as i practice my rudiments.
Hey man! Great demo. I bought one and also the same cymbal attachment that you recommended. Let me ask you-does the back arm (tom mount arm) have issues staying upright? It keeps falling over on me and isn't secure. Also the cymbal attachment doesn't tighten on the arm on so it just spins around. Was curious about your thoughts on that and if you had same issues.
Hey man thanks for the feedback. No tom arm seems pretty secure for me. It's got that really beefy tightening wing nut on the outside that secures it pretty well. Not sure if you have the same hardware, sometimes they change the design on them. Also as for the cymbal l attachment, I put a little 1/2 length in piece of plastic tubing around the knurled arm so it tightens better. It's the kind of tubing that you see in fish aquariums, half inch diameter I believe. Let me know if this helps out. 🤘🏽
This kit sounds great. Nice playing. Could you tell me the make and model of those rods? I couldn't quite hear you there or make out your shirt.
Thanks.
Thanks man! Those are called Kuppmen Carbon Fiber Sticks. I'm using 7A sticks, and 5B rods. The best place to find them for sale is on Reverb.com.
Does it feel like quality locks or hinges to you? It’s weird how the kick pedal clamp thing is just sticking out like that. Might hit you in the shin or someone else’s during transit. Also the wood and the kick head might get damaged while loading and unloading
Thanks for your question. The locks and hinges are steel so they are very quality. Never a problem. And the pedal clamp only sticks out about an inch so it's not very obtrusive. Now your last point is relevant. I do believe that Toca needs to produce some sort of optional case, or include a padded slip over protection sleeve at least. This instrument is indeed prone to getting scratched since you're usually loading it up along with hardware and such.
@@videotampa yeah the scratches will for sure happen and chips. I can definitely see the drum head being punctured or dented as well. They def need to produce a nicely padded slip case with backpack straps for sure with maybe extra pockets. Thanks for the quick response.cheers
What Hi-Hat stand is that? Looks great and compact...
It's an old no name brand from the 60's.. Found it at a thrift store.
did the cymbals come with this or do you have your own?
Cymbals, hi-hat stand, and bass drum pedal do not come with this kit unfortunately.
Can you please tell me exactly what the attachment is that connects to the Tom stand. The one that attached for your cymbal? Would really appreciate it. Thanks!
It's a Gibraltar SC-DCT-BT Cymbal Brake Tilter. I picked mine up at Sweetwater online. $29.
@@videotampa Awesome! Just ordered it! I also got my Toca Kickboxx yesterday and you're so right. This little thing for its size sounds pretty awesome! Thank you for responding!
You got it Shannon! Let me know how it works out for you. :)
@@videotampa Will Do! Thank You!
Can you tune & replace the heads?
Hi where do you buy these kits from?
I ordered mine from reverb.com.
Does it come with the kick pedal?
No it's doesn't, but uses a standard kick pedal..l
This or the pearl compact traveler kit?
Pearl compact traveler isn't even close in terms of sound and look like shit. This is significantly better especially for touring. You're gonna be mick'ed up anyway. Lots of musician ask for sort of a hybrid drumming/percussion style - there you have it. When the touring producer will see the shipping bill for the drums, basically non-existent, because it's your luggage at this point... they will smile big and hire you again ;)
Did you have to tune the heads?
They come pretuned, but I did tune them tighter just a little bit.
Warwick from Wazinator Australia here. We make a suitcase kick drum pickup system called the Wazinator Zombie.
I'm wondering if I could send you one to try out? thanks
Hi Warwick! That sounds ideal! I would love to try one out and do a review video.
So it does come with a kick pedal? It didn’t look like it was inside the box when it unpacked.
It does not come with a kick pedal unfortunately.
@@videotampa That’s too bad. I think it was Amazon where they showed a picture as though it were just being opened, and it showed a pedal. I was skeptical. Thank you for the reply.
@@stevemaguire2190 Maybe it was a bundle deal? Don't take my word as final. Maybe some places do offer a pedal with it. 🤷🏽♂️
what cymbal attachment do you use? can I get the name of it please
Just Google 'Gibraltar Deluxe Cymbal Tilter Attachment'. You should find them on Amazon or reverb. 👍🏽
@@videotampa THANK YOU
I like your video wayyyy better then the toca made one. Lol
I wasn't even aware Toca made a video for this product!
Does it come with the cymbals?
No
@@videotampa thsnk u
C you tell me the price?
I bought it 2 years ago from a store on Reverb.com for $439 USD.
Sigh. I wish I could say I liked the sounds...but I don't. The "Gigpig" sounds a hundred times better but unfortunately, that company is in Sweden or something and the cost is not cheap, to get it from overseas. For about the same amount of money, you could buy a Tama Jam set or a PDP New Yorker kit. Neither are suitcase kits but they ARE very small and somewhat portable. Or the Tama Cocktail kit.
I wish my Autistic kids had a drum set
Why not find him a used drum set on Facebook marketplace? Playing the drums is a great pastime and very therapeutic.
@@videotampa I actually have 2 Autistic kids, my oldest son and daughter are both autistic. Short answer is I don’t have the money for a drum set. I’d love for them to have a drum set and a guitar to learn how to play but just don’t have the funds for either.
These companies take these homemade ideas and try to commercialize them.
Can you please buy me one
I have one for sale.. $375 usd. You pay shipping. 😅
@@videotampa what
LOL
@@videotampa is it still available?
@@michaelluna2142 Yes it is.
