You do such a super job explaining circumference fitting and the reasons behind it. So many sewists will get a lot out of your video lesson. Thank you!
What a gold mine of information to fit your garment better. It never occured to me to cut your pattern between sizes. That's a sewing game changer for me, since I frequently fall between sizes. Karina you're a sewist genius!!
Thank you Karina. You are my absolute sewing world mentor. You somehow manage to make everything so clear and inspirational. Your work is very appreciated.
Excellent instructional video. I just bought patterns and because I have lost weight I will have to grade sizes. What I learned today was ease of the pattern and how to choose your size. I have not seen in a number of years. I use to make bridal gowns and sew for others before. However, I was in a different size and Only bought big four patters. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the great teaching and your positive outlook! I gave up sewing clothing many years ago because it didn’t fit, but with your encouraging videos I think I will try again 🙂
Your style of teaching for me as a visual learner is so easy to follow and understand. Thank you for the time you give to explain in such great detail. Excellent series.
I just want to tell you how much I love your channel and how much your videos help me with my sewing. I always feel a lot more confident after watching, you've got a great teaching style!
Hello. A confident beginner here👋. I have seen random videos from your channel and this sealed the deal for me. I have decided to subscribe because of this series. Thank you for this video. God bless!!
Great video. It is very dispiriting when you go to buy, and either garments (dresses mainly) fit on the top but not the bottom or vice versa. I am the most awkward shape - pear shaped - with a large difference between the top and the bottom measurements and end up wearing so many ‘baggy’ clothes. I’m really looking forward to your next video to show me how to deal with this. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Karina, thank you for great video again. I'm the garment size size I sew and don't care about the RTW sizes. It looks awful how some ladies try to press themselves into a specific garment size. 🙄🙄
Love how you explain the sizes. Need to learn how to blend sizes since I am pear shaped and have a hard time with pants sewing patterns. Always short at the crotch and tight around my hips lol.
When I was in high school the teacher taught just take measurements and that’s the size you wear that was it ..it may of worked because we were thin ..your so right it’s a mind fix how to get the pattern to fit you it’s so confusing.. I appreciate this video
This was so incredibly helpful Karina, thank you so much! Even though I've been sewing for years and years I always find there's still so much to learn. Your style of teaching is brilliant and you explain everything so clearly. This gives me even more confidence in my sewing ability and inspires my creativity :)
Thank you so much. I have been learning so much from your videos and your fitting ones are perfect. I have changed shape in the last couple ofyears so this is awesome.
Thank you for the video. I am on my third try for one top that is not working. Time to stop, watch the series and apply what you are teaching. I needed to see this video on selecting the size and keep ease in mind for woven fabric. I will be downloading your chart to help select my correct size.
it took me a long time to realize i needed my shoulders and bust measurement first then adjust for the hips, makes a big difference in the size of your neck and how sloppy your shoulders were
That’s exactly the example I will show on my next video. I’ve sewn a size based on my hips. I’ve also heard the advice to pick the larger size and sew that one.... but it’s so hard to adjust the neck and bust like that.
So true Size numbers are irrelevant, I moved form the UK to Canada and my RTW size dropped by 3 sizes and my feet grew 2 sizes during the flight LOL. I think sewing patterns sizes are more in line with UK sizing than US sizing. I never know when using high bust and bust measurement whether to consider my broad shoulders and upper back that I will have to adjust for in my size choice. My high bust is only 0.5 inches more than my bust but I am not actually completely flat chested I worry if I choose an A cup based on this whether it would be ok.
I’ve lived in so many countries and have used so many different RTW sizes. Here in Brazil my shoe size dropped by 2 numbers 😜. A muslin will help you decide if the A cup is ok. Sewing cups are a guide in theory but the real information will come from the muslin :)
Thank you so much for this this really will help me in cutting the correct size. I tried to download the document but it would'nt download just kept on the same page. How can I get this document.
It seems that you are referring to bra cup sizing on your comment. A sewing cups size is totally different and has no relation to a band size or the cup size of a bra. Sewing cup size is the difference between the high bust and the full bust. Also, yes, I will Do videos on bust adjustments.
Thank you. My high bust to full bust is over 6 inches different, so I appreciate patterns with full bust options and often have to adjust them further. Your videos help. I' m learning. Typically I fall in three size ranges for a given pattern. Will you be able to cover adjusting princess seams?
Hi Teresa. I will not be covering princess seams on this series because that style does not meet the criteria this series is designed for. I mean to cover the most important basics for a simple woven top with a bust dart and sleeves. Other content that is more advanced can come in the future, but not as part of this series. I am a one woman team and am very limited in resources and time.

Dear Lifting Pins and Needles, I hope u r doing well. I have a curious query!! It's about easing required in the pattern of a deep neck, fitted blouse of waist length. In the above-mentioned kind of pattern, does the easing needed in the bust circumference vary with respect to the high bust circumference of a body. That is, if the high bust of a pattern is 32", the ease needed in the bust has to be lesser than that which is needed for the pattern with 42" high bust. thanks in advance :)
In general yes. Smaller sizes need less ease than larger sizes. Because your style of deep neckline and goes to the waist, it should be fitted with max 1” ease.
Now that I am older and I am in the middle of manopause my right bust is 20 inches down from my Cb of my neck and my left bust is 18.5 inches and it is hard to get a bra when they are at different height and more than 10 inches apart from each other, and I am just starting to make my wardrobe, I am 4 foot 9 inches and my belly muscles are so weak I look months pregnant
Your very inspiring. Thank you

I do it all the time :)
Good information!! You are so right about our number in sizing, that does not say who we really are.
Absolutely!! Sadly, numbers have an importance that is too much, for some people.
You are a natural teacher. Very good series. I am learning so much. Thank you so much.
Happy to hear that!
Wonderful video Karina! 🌺
So reassuring to hear you go through each pattern and how you choose based on your measurements. It makes it come to life. Thank you 💕🧵
Once again, after so many years of sewing, you have made fitting so clear! Another excellent video!!

Ease is complex, isn’t it? Thanks Karina for your thorough explanation.
So correct I went through that learned by sewing experience and enjoyed I look well put together ❤
I’m glad you were able to learn this by experience. It makes such a difference in the fit.
Super usefull, thanks a lot :-)
This is a brilliant video. I have been struggling with ease and how much I need in each area for a good fit. Thank you 😊
It’s a bit of a grey area and with time you’ll discover what you like. I tend to gravitate towards a tad less ease, but others like more.

Click on the PDF document labelled “your body circumferences Fitting series Lifting Pins and Needles”. It’ll download fine on a computer.
Can you showna full bust adjustment? A bust can be an A cup on a 44 band, or a G cup on a 30 band. Most patterns fit a b cup. Thanks!
