- A new fitting series makes its appearance! Following the success of the "Let's sew easy pants" series from 2020, it's time to tackle the upper body! We will be fitting simple woven tops with a standard sleeve and a bust dart.
I will plan series as a weekly video. I will replicate common fitting issues to help you identify them. I will show easy corrections to apply to your pattern. We will cover the shoulders, back, bust and more!
Come join! I have 5 patterns to recommend here. They fit the criteria of having:
*Front on the fold
*Bust dart
*Simple set-in sleeve
*For woven fabric
*Can have a center back seam (optional)
*Good size range

Yippee! I am in the process of moving house; downsizing to a smaller space, a real challenge for a sewing hoarder! The LAST thing I should be doing is embarking on a new project but, will that stop me??? No way. Count me in.

Maybe after this series wraps up, you'll have more ladies wanting to do their own block. I did mine from your video when you were in Bolivia. Need to tweak it again, but I think using it to come up with some cute little dress would be fun.
I have made a few videos showing how to transform a basic block and the views are so terribly low every single time. It’s repetitive and each video takes so much effort... Thats why I use patterns.

My very 1st videos show a block and I’ve made a few videos where I’ve used it already. It’s content that gets very little views, so it’s not where my content is focused. Most want to work with patterns.

I am just now watching this series on fitting a woven top. When I got to the closet core pattern and saw what you had made--I was so excited. I have that exact same fabric that I made a dress out of. I have lots of it left over and didn't know what to do with it. I love the way you made it. The fabric looks like a watermelon in places and goes from yellow and orange colors--which are my favorite to the blues at the bottom.

Oh thank you! I followed the pants and the binding videos. This is perfect timing for me as I'm moving towards wovens for summer approaching here. It's already warm in the desert, 80° and around daily already! I just bought a ton of linen, and a linen blend, 19 yards total. Washed twice and softer and ready to go. I will be using a light muslin though for the fitting process. 😊I am excited! Thank you so much!

I am very excited about this series! I have recently discovered that while I'm only 5' 3" tall, I have a very long torso. I made a top that was supposed to be waist length, but was several inches above. I added 4 inches to the next one. Apparently, I'm tall from the waist up. Who knew?

Looking forward to this series! With a size range of 14/16 upper bust and bust (depending on the pattern) to a 22/24 hips, swayback and large low bottom. I'm always looking for better ways to adjust the patterns.

I’m so excited about this! I love the way you teach. Something you said in this video finally clicked with the cup sizes...that a bra is measure for cup size as to how much it has to ‘cup’. And a sewing pattern is how it falls over the bust. That made so much more sense than any other description I have ever heard.

I couldn’t make well fitting pants until I watched your series of videos, so am really looking forward to this series on fitting woven tops as I nearly always work with woven fabric, sometimes they fit, sometimes not!

I think this is an excellent idea for a series! I know a lot of people will benefit from your experience. I know your focus is going to be on fitting the bodice, but I'm hoping you'll also address sleeves as I am still learning how to fine tunes the fit of sleeves on different brands of patterns.
I will consider the sleeve when the armhole has been modified and will definitively include the bicep adjustment. One thing to consider is that unless its a two piece sleeve (that has a hidden elbow dart), sleeves will have a degree of twist no matter what.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Thank you so much!!!! I rarely see anyone addressing sleeve fitting, but I have found it to be important, with my square forward thrusting shoulders. I think I’ve gotten my bodice fit so much better than it used to be, but I’ll be following along and using this Burda pattern that I have on hand: www.burdastyle.de/produkt/magazin-schnittmuster-inkl-step-by-step/bluse-mit-v-ausschnitt-02-2020-115_115-022020-DL (Sorry about not using the English site but it doesn’t contain a line drawing.) I’m sure I’ll learn a lot along the way. You really do spread your love of sewing!

Loved the pant series. I've never made a woven top! So I'm excited for this series. Apparently people tell me I need a narrow shoulder adjustment I hope you include that! I'm about to try 3 different narrow shoulder adjustments and make a video on it but it'll be with knits. I'm sure the rules would be the same for woven? I'm still new to fitting things! Thank you for all the effort you do in every video❤😍 you help soo many of us!!☺

I'm excited to follow this series. I used to sew as a teenager but my body fit standard sizes from the big companies back then. Fast forward many years... I haven't done any real sewing and my body doesn't fit a standard size anymore. I really need help in figuring out how to adjust patterns to fit! I am sorry to hear that people don't seem interested in videos about block patterns and designs made from them. I think it would be so useful! I'm surprised..... I would like to see block design ! Pattern cutting is amazing and so liberating and I have only been sewing 2-3 years. It would be great for your Patron perhaps ? I enjoy all of your content anyway x
Creating the block requires a very motivated person. It takes a few tries and then even after that, the designs that come from it need even more work. I have proved over an over that this content is just not what many people want to see. It's so much work to film and make videos and then very demotivating to see the poor interest and very, very very low views. I hope you understand.
