  • Hello, friends! Welcome back to the “Let’s sew our best fitting woven top” series! This is the important episode where we see practical examples "HANDS ON" oh how to merge / blend multi-sizes on your paper pattern smoothly.
    We will see practical examples for a few scenarios and how to deal with the bust dart when blending sizes.
    I will show you 2 muslins where I sewed only ONE size and how disastrous the look is..... it's so much better to blend the sizes we need.
    I am not discussing full bust adjustments in this video. I suggest you choose a pattern that has an option close to your sewing bust cup size. FBAs an SBAs will come a little later in the series.

    Thank you! I am so very thankful that you do take your time and present us with only the best you have. Well thought out, well planned and explained so we can help ourselves. It takes a lot of time to make, edit, plan out angles, and sew up those muslins. In between your life, testing patterns, and sewing for fun. I appreciate all your hard work and effort. You have helped me so much with my own sewing and I absolutely love it that you use the simplest and most effective methods to get beautiful results!( It's all about the basting) Looking forward to all content that you create. It's all inspiring and you are a wonderful asset to the sewing world. 💚🌍

    I made a top that needed to be blended out from the bust to a larger waist and back in to the hips, just like your example. I couldn't figure out how to get a smooth line, and it was a knit fabric so I just left it alone. It worked out ok, but I'm so grateful you showed us this, it will help me for the next project!

I have been "struggling" to get the side edge correct. After watching this video I had an "Ah-Ha" moment when you mentioned the bust dart needed to be closed! I’m in for some fun 😅, I’ve decided to do the Sorbetto pattern from Seamwork and I’m between a 16 and 18 they have their PDFs split between those two.
    It says there is shaping but the finished garment measurements just get larger from the bust Soo I’m going to be doing some shaping I think from the side seams.
    I should have just bought a pattern 🤦‍♀️

It's titled 'How to BLEND / MERGE MULTI-SIZES for a CUSTOM FIT. 2 Poorly fitting top examples' . From 1 year ago. Now I know what I've been doing wrong !!! Thank you for your ever so helpful videos. P.S. I am in the US and use inches

    Hi, this is brilliant. I have been following along. I always find blending hard - how to draw the line, I do have a curved ruler. My question is that you flip one piece over to draw the second side but that doesn't work for me. I have to place the front right side up over the back which is also right side up to match up the armhole sides. Hope it's right. Thank you.

    Very well presented and easy to understand. I am altering an aline dress patter and would like a little more ease in the bust. If I’m going up a size for bust, then easing back to the the pattern for waist and hip, do I also make this adjustment to the dress back?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Рік тому

      If the neckline and shoulders fit well then the best thing is to do a full bust adjustment for more ease at the bust.

  • @dixyschu951

    Katrina- I know this video is specific to wovens, but if the same vertical lines from bust to hem were on a knit, would it be the same issue? Too much fabric in waist area? THANK YOU!!

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 роки тому

      It could be if the knit top is loose and has positive ease. It's more difficult to interpret fit in knit garments because the stretch differs so much between the different types of fabrics.

    I would like to know how I can take to dresses or blouses off the rack and blend them together for my perfect size? let's say I wear a size 18 and I can only find the dress in a size 10 and 8 how can I take these two dresses and make a size 18? I heard that Oprah tailor would offend have to do this for her clothes but I've not seen anyone on UA-cam who demonstrate this method.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Рік тому

      I suspect no one does this on UA-cam because it’s just not possible unless it was a very simple skirt (take two and cut lots of panels to make one). You just can’t merge a small neckline and make it larger. Same with the sleeves. It just can’t be done.
