    311 owns, they've been recording, touring, and producing original sounds for nearly twenty years with original members, they've never broken up, had any public disputes, they're nearly 40 and still draw young crowds and sell out amazing live shows every year. True musicians who don't let politics and personal opinions rule their music making, they are the best band around today!!

    How he hits a bass drum for every crash is a stylistic note I still find myself using to this day and the marching snare drum rolls are one of a kind. I've been trying to play like this guy since I was 12 and still, he amazes me.

    just so i get some credibility here, 311 is my favorite band. now, having said that, i think that chad is far from the best drummer ever. i think chad is an extremely precise drummer, especially his bass drum. i wanna say that this is simplicity at it's best. you can't not love his beats.

  • @311Vision
    @311Vision 13 років тому +1

    @ka24love It's not rim-shots, and it is tuned moderately tight. The pitch you are hearing is mainly due to the fact he is playing on a 14x5" 20-ply snare with (4) 2.25" vents, that gives it the dry/sensitive crack sound. I own several 20-ply OC snares. The 4 large vent's makes the drum a hell of a lot louder.

He is a very technical drummer, very creative. He is one of the main reasons why 311 has sounded as great as they have for the past 25 years. Classic example of how a sweet sounding kit makes something not that complex, just sound amazing. Dont get me wrong hes playing a really cool groove with some cool dynamics Chad is one of my favorite drummers but that kit is just so smooth. Perfect kit for their style of music they play. Not a huge fan of the band.. The players are great, but Hexum and SA get a little annoying sometimes and it makes the sound of the music redundant.

  • @quackbeef
    @quackbeef 15 років тому

    That doesn't surprise me at all. OCDP has gone down in quality it seems like their drums made after 2003ish have quality issues i.e. they don't stay in tune. OCDP's glory days were when they were a small company and didn't have to handle the strain of all the orders. They could really get good quality control when they were small. Chad has made a good choice with Pearl, they are solid drums good sounding drums. and I think he played them before OCDP so they are a brand that he really likes.

  • @DersWerld
    @DersWerld 17 років тому

    I bet Chad Sexton is going to see all of these comments and feel really depressed about a bunch of 13 year olds saying he sucks, ruabel311. Then he'll quit 311 and become a homeless man who makes shampoo out of public bathroom soap and river water and sells them for spare change. All because someone typed some shit up on a website. honestly, he just wants to play what he wants to play and people should be able to respect that. He probably doesn't read comments on UA-cam.

  • @wong5150
    @wong5150 17 років тому

    I have 3 sets of DWs. Everyone makes great drums. The thing that separated the DWs for me was the passion in the company. John Good still hand selects woods. They stamp the timbre of each shell inside the shell, and then sell *matched* drum kits. Just look at Neil Peart. He could play anything. He CHOSE DW. In fact, all of the endorsers of DW WENT to DW. DW did not ask ANY of their endorsers to endorse DW. That says a bundle to me.

  • @Ckroush
    @Ckroush 17 років тому

    They get artists that are KNOWN to endorse their drums. Everyone knows who Chad Sexton is and he's a big hit in the industry. You might could play but harder material than him but he would destroy you on technique. His drumming isn't that hard to repeat, but the way it flows to the music is ridiculous. If you were better than him, then you would be endorsing OCDP and not Chad.

  • @33Hossa18
    @33Hossa18 14 років тому

    its not like he's tryin to play the best of his ability, theres no doubt that chad sexton is a an amazing drummer, he's jus layin down some simple grooves so what if other people can play them thats not the point its just a promotional video anyways n now hes BACK WITH PEARL nice. Pear, DW, an OCDP all the way!!!

  • @quackbeef
    @quackbeef 15 років тому

    chad gets his snare skills from marching band... he is ridiculously good and has way more technique and groove than jordison. Jordison played tenors in marching band and get his fast fills from there. it is really hard to compare the two because they play such different styles of music but i think chad is better because he doesn't just brutally attack the drums.

  • @Reaper2k
    @Reaper2k 15 років тому

    I like Portnoy better and I think he's more impressive, but be serious- I mean really honest with yourself- can you imagine MP doing some of the snarework Chad does? He simply doesn't have the background for it, a fact which he would admit.
    Mike and the other guys you mentioned have their own untouchable strengths.

  • @Reaper2k
    @Reaper2k 15 років тому

    Normally I'm not really one to play the "they have different styles" card, but...well...they have different styles. I don't think either one of them is really equipped to or capable of replicating the other's playing convincingly.
    But I think we can all agree that they're both better than Travis Barker or Joey Jordison. ;P

  • @fallloftroy
    @fallloftroy 16 років тому

    First he's doing a "ad" for OCDP. Which they suck anyway.
    Second if you really listen to 311 you know Chad's style. Plus He was in Marching band and Jazz in high school. Half of guys haven't even had a lesson with any kind of instructor. Trust me when I say he really understand music theory. I know because I've been through the Marching band and Jazz/Concert band.

  • @unicursalhex

    He should have mentioned that you can even ply count. They also offer just about every size... I prefer Sonor to anything else for superior shell construction, meticulous construction, and many years of experience in manufacturing all sorts of instruments. But the OC's are pretty awesome... Another cool thing is that OC will work with any ideas you may have while I know of no other company that does.

  • @jemmojemmo
    @jemmojemmo 17 років тому

    Well. Chad may be a great drummer but he seems to be getting a non-deserved slagging-off for this. Let's not forget that this appears to be an advert for Orange County drums and not to specifically showcase the guy's talent.
    To be honest, I've never heard of the guy, but for all those people who reckon they can do better, lets see some video.
    That said, I was more impressed with the 3 cam video editing.

  • @Brento44
    @Brento44 18 років тому

    The issue I have personally with OCC, Dw, Pork Pie whatever "Custom Shop" is they over price their drums... Literally its the same drum kit.. Not much different in the sound. That's a fact. It's all about whats cool and whatever.. But in the end the sound is what's important. These companies have really made the market have to re-look at their drums and put out better quality.. All the major drum companies having amazing kits.. Never buy because of a name..

  • @bmillerdrums
    @bmillerdrums 12 років тому

    @ndw9311 If they are "garbage kits" then why the hell did he play O.C for years and really formulated the 311 sound out of them as far as drums go. I know he plays pearl now but ur telling me that kit sounds like garbage. Then u and i def dissagree in terms of drum sounds..

  • @Moonbath216
    @Moonbath216 17 років тому

    i'm sick of all u "know it alls", sure his technique ain't nothing great, hes not fast, not a flashy guy, but do u REALLY listen to 311's music? listen, and i guarantee at any concert u will never see him miss a beat, he is probably one of the best rhythmical drummers in the world, i guarantee it.

  • @samwestonpotter
    @samwestonpotter 18 років тому

    Eh, it's 311. That's about all I can say. Not bad, but not really exciting. He's alright, but no groove or chops or ideas that really make me care much. Some double stroke stuff, but other than that, meh. I'd much rather hear Steve Gadd, Keith Carlock or Vinnie Colaiuta.

  • @quackbeef
    @quackbeef 15 років тому
