In our Roland TD-50 "playing all kits" video, we demo all 50 standard drum kits included in the modules stock sound library. We had to split this in two videos though ;) so please be sure to check out PART 2/2 as well.
The module demo is played with drum-tec diabolo electronic drums & the Roland TD-50DP digital upgrade package, which consists of TD-50 module, PD-140DS snare & CY-18DR ride.
You can find all of the components in our online shop:

As always, Ralf musically adjusts his impressive skills to the sound of the respective Kit. This is why these Vids are such great Demos: inspiring - and convincing!
Dankeschön :)
What a great drummer. You have some nice chops. I always look forward to hearing you play. Good job.
Thank you very much! :)
Came to watch a demo on the sounds for the TD-50, found that and a fantastic drummer, just amazing ! Hmm I to must learn the way of the force.
Thank you very much! :)
I am more impressed by the drummer than the drumset !
Thank you :)
drumtecTV I think I'll keep my TD 11 for a good while
Dennis Rivenburg To me, my TD11 is all i need. I can practice at any time, it's easy to record, sounds great for demos, and it's just as good as I need to. Plus the fact that I love it for what it is. I don't compare it to a acoustic drum becouse they are just not the same. If I want the features acoustic drums and cymbals have , I go acoustic.
the drummer makes the set. even a shitty kit w a good drummer will be enjoyable. the better the kit is the better performance it brings out of the drummer. this video is money. this guys a natural. one w the drum
Fun to listen to. Great playing.
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Never mind the kit, but amazing drummer and some awesome beats! Would love to hear this guy on a great classic drumkit.
Thank you very much :) you can! ...

drumtecTV Thanks - amazing! Unbelievably tight and enjoyable drumming with great sound - keep up the good work man!
The Bubinga Set sounds awesome! (07)
Bimon Solivar except I didn’t like that ride cymbal on that kit, the drums rocked!
I like the snare on that kit
awesome. way better than the last video I watched. lol all the other guy did was talk. but THIS right here is speaking my language. nice licks. you make me consider looking into that kit
crazy Groove ! love it
Thank you! :)
Ralf is so good. I'm not sure why some people criticize the sounds of the TD-50. I think it sounds awesome, Super punchy, unique 'roland-y' sounds, but would actually work quite will in recordings.
Thank you! :)
Top Drumming Ralf, as always :-)
Thanks dude! :)
Great as always!
Thank you very much (as always) :)
Great Roland TD-50 all kits playing w. drum-tec diabolo pads PART 1/2
Thank you
Thank you.
Excellent beautiful immortal sublime.. Good job.
Thanks Lionel! :)
Serious drumming skills at work here.
Thank you very much! :)
i wish i could afford these drums...
Your drumming sounds so good and your skill is like insane lvl. And I cant even get 20% of your skills and I`m playing for about 15 years. :)
Probs to you man and all love to the music.
You killed it! \^^/
Wenn ich gewusst hätte das du Deutsch kannst hätte ich mir all das englische sparen können xD
Super weiter so :)
Danke vielmals! :)
cosmic pop. i loved it
GOOD CHOPS DUDE, I JUST ORDERED MY TD-50 KIT. IT WILL BE A GREAT ADDITION TO MY HI END DRUM COLLECTION, BEEN PLAYING NOW FOR 54 YEARS.
I don't really dig electronic kits but you, sir are an outstanding player!
Thank you so much! :)
I love it
Awesome skills.
Thank you Robert :) kind regards!
Insane Skills!!!
Thank you very much!
Exelent job!!!
Thank you! :)
Amazing work
Great drummer
Wow!
This drummer is a beast 👏😎
Thank you very much! :)
drumtecTV credit where credit is due 😌
is that kick 3ply mesh head?
I converted my 16'' floor tom to a kick.
Is there an 16'' equivalent to what your 18'' is?
The td 50 with the digital snare is an amazing sounding set!
Studio A - super!
what's the difference between the pads?
Nice demo sir! I have the Roland TD-25 kit and after a lot of experimenting I've been sticking to triggering samples through EZ Drummer/Superior Drummer. Their samples just sound much more authentic to me than any module I've tried. That being said, I love the sound of the snare on the BubingaBoom preset. Bad ass! Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much. You might want to check out our VST sample triggering playlist here on the channel:
ua-cam.com/play/PLfdIgOnHCc5qXX2P03SRNVSjuuUQYcUUy.html
:) kind regards!
Hey what computer do you use to get the vst ?
Thanks, great video! I just wish Roland could group drum sets together or allow me to do it. I understand that the TD-50 has a set list that allows you to move from drum set to set, but I don't know hows strict it is? I have a TD-12KV and will be upgrading shortly. It's just frustrating when you have to run past space drums, cartoon drums, to get to another normal set. Then you have to go through Indian Drums, percussion drums, finger popping drums and drums that clearly don't play well together, to the next good one. It gets frustrating. This was very helpful.
You can create your own kits from any individual pieces you like, then save them as presets even name then for the song or band you are going for, then order them to fit your gig Playlist . So no scrolling between random kits.
eargasm!
But how do they sound with a band?
Thank you for the video, do you happen to give group lessons with all of these drum kits ?
No sorry :) the kits you see in the background of the video is our drum-tec West department. Kind regards
What pedal is on this? Sounds like a lot of double beats unobtainable from a normal foot pedal so I am guessing it either has two beaters or a double actions motion? Any ideas. I just have std Pedal on my TD30kv. (Actually to be fair I do have a double pedal (2 foot plates) but not sure how to use it and work Hi-Hat at the same time (keeeping HH closed?) unless one is supposed to heel and toe across the two adjacent pedals?..
Great playing. I've said for many years that the biggest problem - with electronic drums of any kind - is that they're programmed / played by keyboard players. Yes, the tech has improved enormously but sit me (a keyboard player) behind that kit and it's going to be ghastly. As it would be if you sat me behind an acoustic kit. The saving grace with an electronic kit is that you could turn me down :)
:-D
lol man you play like me. natural and fluent in the pocket.
Dream kit number 25 ( but maybe in next life) 😂
I can't help but feel that the td-30 sounds better. The only kit I liked was 24. For some reason i don't like the snare or tom sounds. I think the hardware exceeds the actual quality of the sounds.
How much better are the sounds from the TD-20 and 30? I didn't see any 80's sounds or ways to process the stock voices. Also it seems there are only 400 or so on the brain, vs nearly 1000 on the 20 and 30. Talk to me goose. Great chops by the way!
dantheman9856 I’ve played Td20 for about a decade and my friend has the TD30 so we did a side by side comparison and I disagree that the the 30 is superior. It’s the same sounds with added features. I use the studio and Maple kit a lot and compared them both. No different. My friend uses the rock kit and he says the same, no difference. The toms have a very short unnatural decay.
The TD50 has a Bubinga kit for example and it sounds nothing like a Tama Bubinga kit. Plus if you sample a snare into it, it is only one shot (usually you have to a medium-loud hit). The brain uses digital software to make it low or loud so that’s why the ghost notes don’t sound right because it is just the same medium-loud hit sample made low volume. Not realistic. Many snares have a different tone to them soft and even when hit hard. Same with toms.
The only advancement I like is the digital snare and ride but the sounds are not good. I’ve been reading many drum blogs people are unhappy with the sounds.
hey you boys seen an aircraft carrier around here? ;)
I wish it has more stack sounds. 418, for me , is lacking.
Can anyone tell me the name of the lick he plays at 2:20 going into the power metal kit, or even better would be a video guide/lesson for learning it. Please and thank you!
Try to search "Slipknot - vendetta" intro!! Or "Joey Jordison" lick 🙌 this is also one of my favorite! It is 4 on toms 2 on kick (repeat). Or also 2 on toms 2 on kick. Its awesome
Please, i would also like to see what Loud speaker system is used.
Hi Jonah, we didn´t use any loudspeakers in this video. The TD-50 sound module was recorded directly from it´s stereo output to a DAW software. You can find some amplifier solutions for electronic drum kits over here though:
www.drum-tec.com/english/accessories/monitoring
Kind regards!
was this improvised playing? or did you have a plan of sorts before recording?
Nope, it´s pretty spontaneaus most of the time :) kind regards
drumtecTV that's some insane skill you have there
+James Ellis that's all natural. very smooth and from the heart. that's a real drummer
I can hear Ralf is a big fan of linear fills
Absolutely :) Kind regards!
Can I take lessons from this guy??
So, any particular reason for not using a Diabolo-snare?
Nope, we just had the TD-50DP for this video which includes the PD-140DS. You can also use any diabolo or pro series snare, if you are not too focussed on the new rim features of the PD-140DS :)
You can hear the expertise and the real sound of this DrumSet in a Live Band, Backing Track ,or in a “Band In A Box “when the Keyboard,Bass, Rhythmn,Lead, and the Horns play each part.Thats the real thing...
How much
Great playing. Such a shame there isn't a single decent acoustic kit that isn't over-produced.
Ashley Cox what you mean. Acoustic is the best. Maybe put more money in the kit then.
im sure your kit sounds better than 16 jarrah funk 🙄
It has eq for each instrument and master eq. There is also transient for each instrument. These settings are set to factory which are flat.
Hi there, were these kits edited or played with default settings? Thanks very much!
Hello Marcello, these were the stock TD-50 kits that came with the module by standard without any further editing. The TD-50 firmware & kit presets have been updated by Roland since then though, so the current stockl kits might be somewhat different. You can also find additional sound editions for the TD-50 from drum-tec if you are interested:

Kind regards!
this actually looks like a real acoustic drum set
Are those DW shells on that kit?
Hey Douglas, no these are drum-tec diabolo electronic drums:
www.drum-tec.com/pads/drum-tec-diabolo
Kind regards!
would you suggest this kit as, beginner> develop real skills< and have a long term kit to grow skills on?
Hey Maximus, well actually the setup of diabolo series & Roland TD-50DP definately is a high end electronic drum kit :) it doesn´t get much better than this, you can later on switch to the bigger drum-tec pro series if desired & as a matter of taste use other sound options (Pearl Mimic Pro, Superior Drummer through midi). But feeling/playing wise this kit is state of the art and definately not a "beginner " kit as such ;) that would rather be a drum-tec Jam series with Roland TD-17 to cut down the price. Kind regards!
does the modules have music you can play to if so why do you not demonstrate tht on your vidioes
Hi William, as far as I know the TD-50 does not come with additional playalong tunes. You can play with your own music from sd card or connect any audio device through the mix in of the module,. Kind regards!
Могу себе представить сколько это щастье стОит.Хотя лучше не представлять.
I seriously have no clue what that means. No dirty jokes please! ;)
Why do all the TD50 Tom toms sound like cardboard boxes on all videos I have seen. To me the td20/30 sound so much more real.
I'm not very impressed with the TD 50 either.
I think they sound great. Are you listening with a high quality sound system?
Rory McCallion I agree. Reason being is that my TD-50 sounds so good in person. That is to say they don't sound like they sometimes come across in some videos. Depending greatly on your monitoring system.
David Kerr Never judge anything sound wise in a video, you need to go hear it in person. That goes for anything from Electronic Drums, to Monitors, whatever. The pair of Headphones you choose is even going to change the way this set sounds when playing.
David Kerr I’ve played them in store. Sound just as horrible. The Bubinga kit doesn’t sound like Tama kit. The decay is still too short on the toms especially the Bubinga kit. The rims on toms are very similar on all kits. They still use to much digital editing and digital effects based from a decade ago.
can someone explain "stock sound" please
the "stock kits" are factory preset kit sounds, that come with the TD-50 module. Kind regards
hi I have a question I’m thinking of getting electric drums and I was wondering are electric drums loud like acoustic drums ? or are they quiet ?
ua-cam.com/video/PhnjNZFEHTI/v-deo.html
For further questions please get in touch through info@drum-tec.de! Kind regards
drumtecTV ok thank you
And what about ride cymbal? Why it is always so quiet?
Ride cymbals are meant to be quieter than other cymbals, and he's also hitting it softly.
ViciousViridian
But on the Power Metal set it is barely noticeably. But the loudness is adjustable.
Ich Und Nicht Du
Oh, wow, it _is_ quiet on the Power Metal kit. I don't know why. Anyway, you could just make it louder if you got this drum kit for yourself.
Is this true that's two ride sounds ?
Hey Nick, what do you mean? The ride cymbal is a three zone pad (edge/bow/bell), I am not sure if that is what you meant :) kind regards!
Coming here in July 2021...why does this sound better than the 50x?? Yes, it has fewer sounds like snare but for what you get, its quality over quantity(like the ATV aD5). Even the hi hat sounds 10x better (for Roland lol). I guess thats why I see used 50 kits selling so high. Does Drum-tec have original 50 modules left in stock? Not upgrades or 50x, the original. I may be in the minority but I like the original 50 better.
We do :)
www.drum-tec.com/roland-td-50-v-drums-sound-module-returned-b-stock
Kind regards!
On every acoustic setting the toms basically sound the same
MJ would have loved "Trash Noiser"
I wish i had a electric drums even if its cheap wish on my birthday
There is a Roland hi hat That Opens it self like a real hi hat Does, The one u got Does not open
In this kit setup, the Roland VH-11 hihat controller was used. It does open/move physically on a hihat stand, but only has one cymbal pad. The VH-13 has top and bottom cymbal pads, yes. Kind regards
8 kit no bueno
The problem with roland is that they do so much right execpt for the pricepoint and their afwul sounding kits.
Hey Aaron, you can benefit from the great Roland module triggering/playability & use external sample libraries like Toontrack Superior/EZ Drummer or Steven Slate drums for stunning results:
ua-cam.com/video/F8iciO7ENcA/v-deo.html
Feel free to get in touch through experts@drum-tec.de if you have any further questions. Kind regards!
I can’t help but feel like people who knock the td 50 are either but hurt they can’t afford one or are acoustic snobs
Nick Croce I played one next to a td-25 yesterday. 25 sounded better but pads obviously not as nice. Was not blown away by td50.
John DeF for the money, it should sound great out of the box. Unfortunately it doesn’t. I will promise you once u get into the module , it sounds great. There are so many editing tools and when u get your sound right, it’s extremely rewarding. Also , the ride and snare are the absolute best in the business right now , hands down.
The sounds are amazingly nuanced and detailed but overproduced as usual.
Killer drummer ! Does he play in any band? As for the Td 50 - everything has been said already - overpriced, shitty sounding module - stick to td 25/30 guys
Man, what is Roland doing? I feel like the TD-50 is an extremely capable module and can do a lot but they filled it with kinda shitty, plastic-sounding samples.
we drummers are condemed! how the f. are we gona practice!
I am not impressed, especially about the snare sound. PD128/125BK with a TD30 module sounds much more natural than this.
To me the TD50 sounds more like a transitional, rushed and unfinished kit.
I feel like it would sound better once you go in and tweak the kits a little. I don't like the sounds too much either but I wouldn't say it's rushed and unfinished, especially with the digital snare/ride.
A very expensive toy!
Not a toy at all
sounds like crap
Definitely I never buy a Roland module. Plastic and digital sounds.
Nice drummer but plastic sound...overrated drum....
its fun tho. and records hundreds of sounds I'm assuming haha of course I'd prefer a real kit for the price but im looking into something like this arm
The rock and metal kits are trash.
toms sound like crap! and this set is more expensive than my car...
Why does anybody ever wanna name a kit Diabolo? Total sellout.
I don´t see how the name of a product could be "sellout" :-D relax dude, it´s just a name... Kind regards
Overrated overpriced soulless sound no warmth or feeling still with the machine gun thing going on ...one day they'll get it right come back in 10 years.
