When my now 45 yr old stole from a store he worked at as a teen, I marched him back the next day, met with his supervisor & made him tell him why we were there, return the stolen item & apologize. He was so embarrassed & was let go. End of discussion. He understood that actions & choices have consequences. Today he's an amazing husband, father & upstanding member of the community working with youth. He's respected because he was taught respect & accountability. It's starts in the home.
Yup. I thought I was above the law as a teen as well. When I was 17 my friend and I took a tip jar from a restaurant. I was parked down the street to avoid anyone catching my license plate but the owner of the restaurant was smart enough to subtly follow us in his truck. He pulled up next to us at a red light and said “you guys stole from my restaurant” (he’s pretty badass now that I look back at it) my heart dropped and I stepped on the gas all the way home. Of course I knew it was over at that point because he saw my license plate so as soon as I got home, I told my dad what I did and to expect the cops to show up at our door. Sure enough they were there 20 minutes later. My dad didn’t even bother getting up from the couch after I opened the door, he simply said “hi officer, do what you gotta do.” The officer let me know the owner wasn’t interested in pressing charges he just wanted the money back (it was a really big jar) the officer asked me to show her where the money is, I brought her to my room as her partner spoke with my dad in the living room, I’m assuming my dad didn’t think that was enough justice so he told the officer to put me in cuffs and make me personally deliver it and apologize to the owner and staff for taking their money. I have not ran into the law ever since that day !

Ain’t tht some truth🙄😔
And what generation was the one that raised these kids parents in the first place?
As a teenager myself i cant imagine ppl my age act like that bro it’s honestly embarrassing
Most teens don’t act like this. A certain group do since 2020 ✊🏿

Me and my friend as teens went to a park at midnight and when a cop pulled up on us we said we were so sorry, please we’ll go home. We’re leaving. We are sorry. There was natural respect from my generation for police and a fear of getting in trouble with our parents. What’s going on with these kids now. Sad.
Parents used to care about how their kids acted in public. And there were two of them.
yeah, there was no way me or any of my friends would backtalk a cop like this when we were teens, being where we shouldn't or whatever, we were taught to respect authority. you say sorry officer and move on.
Neither of your generations right! Always plea the fifth! jk tho ye i get you very sad to see the result of divide between the police and the people. Leads to a huge lack of respect when combined with poor parenting and a bad kid.
" What’s going on with these kids now." I think a lot of kids would have straightened up around police.
They're not "newsworthy".
I get what you mean but why were you apologizing to the cop for just being at a park at midnight? We used to go out and mess around at night all the time just for something to do. We never did anything wrong. Just having fun, running around and talking
Great parenting for these kids…. Some of those new generation of parents are a complete failure

"Parents?" 80% of this community doesn't have father figures - it's a pandemic and it shows
It started with the Boomers and Gen X… Don’t blame the “New Generation” when this behavior has been going on for years.

Blame the parents and where the kids were raised.
When their parents never told them no. Frankly that's the issue now and days. People who's parents disciplined their kids responsibly instead of befriending their kids is a dying culture. Now and days there's a belief if you discipline your kids then you're somehow causing them mental harm.

It’s insane to me how people like these girls somehow manage to turn a littering call into battery of an officer.
They were looking for trouble. Absolutely no remorse for these girls. The saddest part is they will continue to act like this as they get older.
Because their parents probably won’t discipline them and let them to continue to disrespect the police.

Yes, a start has been made, they will follow this path all their lives.
And even if they somehow halfway get their lives together and get employed somewhere, we have to deal with that attitude in the workplace, and they are untouchable in most corporations and especially in government.
His restraint is amazing
This type of behavior warrants punishment. There are consequences for lawlessness. We are living in some weird times when kids have absolutely no regard for laws, rules, or authority.

Never in my life would I talk to a cop that way!
I made the mistake of talking to cops with disrespect I regret till this day
And it’s not even about talking to police this way, they shouldn’t take to ANYBODY that way. So hostile from the very beginning..
