  • This is my review of the Disc-O-Bed XL Portable Cot Bundle that I picked up at Costco for 249.99. I had been watching the price on these cots for years, they always seemed to be between $269 and $319. When they finally dropped in price I decided to try them. To be honest, setting them up is a bit of a pain but once they're set up it was well worth it. I was fully planning on returning them to costco after our camping trip because they are heavy and take 30-45 minutes to set up but my three kids loved them so much that there's no returning them now. Hopefully we'll get quicker at setting them up as time goes by.
We also looked at the Cabela's 2XL Outfitter Bunk Bed by Disc-O-Bed and the sheer manliness of them made me want to buy them but after seeing how big the Disc O Bed XL's were all set up in our tent we realized that we would have had zero space in our tent with two sets of them set up.

Have to give you a big THANK YOU for mentioning Costco. Was about to buy the Cabela version ($480) and went on YT for set up vids when I saw yours. Costco still sells these and their bundle included the rubber foot protectors and leg extensions. All in all, we probably saved close to $200. THAT'S A BIG THANK YOU!!! Lastly, looks like you got the Kodiak tent, too. About to pull the trigger on the 10 x 14. How has the canvas held up for you? Thanks again. :)

I totally agree with your assessment/review of these cots... very heavy and not as quick as blowing up my double high quenn mattresses. But just like youself, my kids and wife love them and it does save some space.

I just used mine for the 2nd time while camping. I think it took me maybe 20 minutes to set up, but about as long to break down (I need to get a mallet b/c getting those discs to pop out, especially in sub 30 degree weather was not easy).
For 2nd time, I made sure to put the side bag against the wall for the upper bunk. This made getting in and out of bottom bunk much easier. It figures that a week or so after I bought mine, but right as we were about to camp, Costco had them for the first time, and costco's price was a bit better and included foot pads and extension pieces.
I'm not sure if the upper bunk is as easy to get on/off with extension pieces in place though.
Can't figure out if I love them---but any kind of cot/camp bed beats leaky inflatable mattress.

, "put the side bag against the wall for the upper bunk."
well, i understand for an adult, but kids would rather have more privacy with the side bags on the traffic side..

They give a little privacy, but not that much. They're more visible and useful on the traffic side, but annoying when the top one is in your face. Kids may not mind it so much.

Sleeping in a tent, At 60 degrees faren-height, You will need at least a 4 lbs sleeping bag, Even in a canvas tent, There is no incerlaytion, So try to sleep 2'feet from the walles and ends of the tent in cooler weather. Also add a floor liner even if you are useing a cot, A lighte blanket over a water-proff sheet, The thicker the blanket liner, The better, It is referd to as a frost liner, 2 Venterlation gapes higher in the tent, For Cross venterlation, And condensation prevention, All thees points are a must. For full comfort in your tent. It won't be a stared hotel. But do your best with what you have, A hot water bottle in a plastic bag wrapped in a pillow case, Or a warm rock. A meadeum weight woolen blanket to wrap around your sleeping bag,
Try your sleeping gear by sleeping on the floor at home, For sleeping on the ground you will need at least 2 light sleeping pads, But if you are tough like me, Just go to the great out doors and make all the mistakes, Feed the moskeeto, And freeze your Bute.
Bears and food, Consult the Orical. Bear's will eat any thing, To give them a treat spread mustard on your self. Observe fire restriction.

The tent is a 10' x 16' Eureka Lakeside canvas tent. They don't make it anymore that I know of (unfortunately) I've tried to think how I'd use them in a modern tent where the sides tend to droop in and I think I'd have to put them in the middle and have the walkway around the perimeter of the tent. Hope that helps.

any "Wall Tent" will do. Wall Tents have straight sides. Wall Tents are a style of tent made by many mfgs.

    How much from Cosco?

    • @nathanyoung1771
      @nathanyoung1771  5 років тому

I've been watching them for years at costco and the price has ranged anywhere from $199-$299. They hang around $249 most of the time. When I saw them at $199 it was a rare occasion where they were closing them out. If you're not in a rush I'd recommend just watching them for the best price.

This is awesome. I would take the top so I can fart while laying on my back while the person on the bottom gets the whole whiff of it.
