La Bamba is a movie you should check out.
Agreed. And would make a great reaction video for the movie reaction channel.
💯 such a great move. Lou Diamond Phillips played Ritchie so good. Must watch.
Agree!!! Would love your reaction to a great movie with amazing music
I live about a about a mile from the house Ritchie bought for his mother with his music $$$ Pacoima Jr High was renamed RV Middle School & He is more than a legend in my Town! Pacoima has produced an excessive amount of talented studio musicians and touring bands for such a tiny speck of NE Los Angeles. If you pick up an instrument in front of players in PACAS!!! Be ready to be called out on your chops by gangsters!!!! Ritchie's ghost looms large here!
@ramonalfaro3252 it's still Pacoima ms, I drove a school bus for Los Angeles unified for 28 years.
Need to watch the movie
(La Bamba)
THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED
Also The Buddy Holly Story
I was just going to post this... I want them to react to the move La Bamba.... it's SO good.
Yesssss, they have to watch "La Bamba" now, it's a given.
Get your tissues ready when you watch it.
I was JUST about to suggest this, too! SUCH a good film. 😊
Ritchie Valens was only 17 when he passed away. What could've been. 🎸 🎼🎶🎼
And Buddy Holly 22 years old, what a waste, so sad
And the Big Boppa
Learn something new every day. I never realized he died so young. My parents listened to his music so I knew of his music, no so much about him. And another plane crash. Dang☹️
Ritchie was only 17 and only had a short 8 month recording career.Yet he left a remarkable legacy in Chicano rock.

A must watch is the movie about his life, LaBamba. A voice taken to soon.
Amber said they watched it earlier in the video before the song
Loved this film x
Other songs of Ritchie are "Donna" "Ooo My Head" or "Come On Let's Go"
Framed
Hi-Tone, Hurry Up… just go get the Rockin All Night album
Have you guys still not watched La Bamba? Life story of Ritchie Valens??? Man, you HAVE to react to that. I'm dying to see that reaction. Do your fans a solid. Don't make me beg. lol
And... After that one. You HAVE to watch The Buddy Holly Story. I can never get tired of either of those.
I'm surprised they haven't reacted to the movie yet! 😢
And then you can do a reaction to a Marshall Crenshaw song who plays Buddy Holly in the movie.
Gary Busey plays Buddy Holly in the 1978 Buddy Holly Story. Is there another movie?
The Buddy Holly Story was with Gary Busey. Another MUST see movie for sure.
@@valogden I was thinking Gary as well, He did an amazing job on that one.
Ritchie Valens to me his best song was Donna. It is so ♥ felt and the rhythm is so amazing. Thank you very much. 😊
Ritchie and Buddy set the foundation of rock & roll along with Dion and Chuck Berry

Mom passed away last Friday. She introduced all her children to "music." 50s and 60s music was a staple in our house.
I am so very sorry for your loss 🙏
So sorry for your loss...😢Great memories stay in the heart forever, and sounds like mom had great taste in music!
Crank up the music, dance, sing, and keep momma's memory alive!
So sorry for the loss of your Mom, that’s a tough one. So glad she left that music for you to remember her by. 🌷 I remember mine through 30’s and 40’s country. Bitter sweet ❤️
My deepest condolences . I pray for strength and comfort .
Jay & Amber, for more great 50’s songs - Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers "Why Do Fools Fall in Love", "Goody Goody" and “The ABC's of Love“!!! Frankie was age 13/14 when recording these doo-wop hits!!
Diana Ross did a cover of “Why Do Fools Fall In Love” in 1981.
Kathie says…I love this song sung by Ritchie Valens. It is beautiful yet it brings a sadness to my heart because it takes me back to the day that we lost him. Truly Heavens gain.
Thx y’all! I grew up in Pacoima, CA where Richie Valenzuela was from. People are very proud of him! Our babysitter used to bring her record player over and play her 45’s! He was a favorite back then!
@t.r.1708 Awesome!!!!
Loveeeee Ritchie Valens!!! Pioneer for his time and so young. RIP #daythemusicdied
New 60's/70's artist, superstar singer/songwriter Neil Sedaka.
"Calendar Girls" "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" "Laughter In The Rain" "Bad Blood"
I LOVVE "Laughter in the rain" ❤❤❤❤❤
And I love "Breaking Up.....", pure musical genius!
This is slow dance, up close music 😉 ❤. Imagine having so many hits all before his 17 years. ❤️
La Bamba is one of my favorite movies of all time. Lou Diamond Phillips did an incredible job in it.
"We Belong Together" by Ritchie Valens, I AM HERE FOR IT! I am so glad you enjoyed this song too, that old time feel, and his voice and the song is so beautiful and yes, it is sad at the same time because he didn't survive long enough to propose to his love Donna. It is high time you guys watch the movie "La Bamba" I enjoyed your reaction video! ☮💕
Yall would enjoy the Ritchie Valens biographical movie "La Bamba" starring Lou Diamond Phillips

Thanks for the memories Jay and Amber I’m 73 years old so I can relate to it
Ritchie Valens hit us like a storm and then left us just as quick. That's the saddest part of his legacy. Definitely check out the movie La Bamba! When you do, you'll get a sneak peek at Brian Setzer (portraying Eddie Cochran) of the Stray Cats, whom you've already reacted to.
La bamba would be a great film reaction 😁

@@texascard I believe they're speaking of the song they reacted to called la bamba not the film
Today would have been my parent's 60th wedding anniversary, and I have been kind of down, missing them both so much.
Listening to this song, I pictured them dancing together and it made me smile through the tears.
Mission accomplished, RobSquad! Thank you ♥
I'm so sorry. ❤️🙏❤️
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THEM!! I'm SURE they know that you are thinking of them and missing them...but, are dancing together, STILL! MUSIC is a GREAT reminder & can be SO MUCH COMFORT!! HUGS!!
"Donna" was a huge hit for Ritchie Valens. Also, when you reviewed the song "La Bamba" - that was not Ritchie Valens - that was Los Lobos (from the movie - "La Bamba"). You should react to "La Bamba" again, this time with Ritchie Valens (real name Valenzuela).
Such a great soulful voice for such a young guy. He was only 17 when the song became a hit. You need to check out the movie La Bamba. It’s the story of his life and when he died in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper. It’s a wonderful movie.
Don McLean's song "American Pie"' makes mention of the Day The Music Died, which was how the media called the day of the fatal crash. "Oh Donna", "La Bamba", and "Come On Let's Go" are his greatest hits. He was also one of, if not the first, Latin Rock and Roll singer to hit the charts, along with Santo and Johnny, Sam The Sham and The Paharoahs, and Question Mark and The Mysterians. Great reaction guys!
La Bamba the movie is great. Bob!!!!! lol
You can see hear the 40s swing music in rock and roll. You can hear Irish and Scottish folk music in rock and roll, you can hear church music in blues. Stairway to Heaven has strains that are reminiscent of early English minstrel muksic. So it goes on. Look at architecture and how many buildings have the fluted columns and architecture from the classical era. Look at your White House. Art, music and even human behaviour often borrows from the past.
At 40, I've been listening to oldies for at least the last 25 years, and they never get old.grrat reaction.
@Rob Squad all the hits and this kid was only 17...... the amount of music we lost with he and buddy Holly and the Big Bopper is staggering..... damn shame, thankfully the amazing music will always live on :)
Gotta watch "La Bamba" about Richie Valens! I remember in the 70's, The DeFranco Family covered this song. It's a classic! Richie did "Oh, Donna" too!
"Come on Let's go" is my favorite Valens song! It rocks!
You really need to react to La Bamba the movie .
Yep, for sure.
I met Ritchies Brother Bob back in the 90's. He was a really nice guy and told me really cool stories about Ritchie.
Ambers learning curve for music knowledge is off the charts. Quoting Don McLeans American Pie lyrics that relate to Richie Vallens death was next level.
The song American pie yes by Don McLean was written in commemoration of the plane crash that killed Ritchie Valens The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly in 1959 a tragedy as Ritchie Valens was still in high school
it was sad that he was quite fearful of planes but he was also sick with a bad cold or flu from riding on a tour bus from town to town it was constantly breaking down and was ice cold people actually suffering frostbite thank you for playing his music he truly had come far from the poor Mexican kid I believe he was from Pacoima could be wrong
Such a beautiful song
Makes me miss my woman. She should still be in my arms not in heaven. Too soon baby. She loved Ritchie's music...her name was Donna so his Oh Donna was her favorite. His music hits me hard. And knowing he died young and was torn from his Donna that he loved makes it twice as tragic. You know he sang these songs thinking of his girl.
More 50's music to check out, Big Joe Turner and his song Shake, Rattle and Roll. Ruth Brown and the song, Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean. Laverne Baker and her song Tweedlee Dee.
James Brown - Talk to Me. Pretty soulful and mellow
After Chantilly Lace, my favorite Big Bopper tune is Purple People Eater Meets The Witch Doctor... but before you listen to it, you need to have heard The Purple People Eater by Sheb Wooley, and The Witch Doctor by David Seville (who is also the guy who brought us Alvin, Theodore, and Simon - The Chipmunks).
Heartbreaking moment in the movie when Donna learns he has died
As others have mentioned, La Bamba is a definite must watch movie. Such a great & sad story.
Another song by The Big Bopper is "Little Red Riding Hood." For a song written by J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, listen to another Port Arthur native, Johnny Preston singing "Running Bear." The Indian sounds in this song is provided by Richardson and George Jones.
Another singer from Port Arthur is Jivin' Gene Bourgeois. He sang the song "Breaking Up is Hard to Do." Listen to the live version from July 7, 2023 performance at Antone's club in Austin, TX.
Thank you. The late, great Ritchie Valens. Much appreciated.
This was on his first album 1959. It was a cover of a top 40 song released a year earlier by Robert & Johnny, which was when I first heard the song.
I thought Valens did an excellent job on this one, but I do have a slight preference for the original. Of course it's a duet and more of a doowop arrangement, so it's hard to compare the two.
The original by Robert and Johnny was superior, but you'll never hear a negative word about Ritchie Valens from me. The first Latin American R&R star will always be a legend. As someone who was born during that era RIP Ritchie. We still miss you.
Sadly we never got to see how far he would've gone and how his music would evolve over the years. You should definitely check out La Bamba movie it's sooo good
For Buddy Holly, there's so many to choose from. It's really amazing how many hits he had in such a short time. My suggestions: Not Fade Away, Oh Boy, Maybe Baby, Heartbeat, and my favorite, Rave On.
He's a Mexican-American icon. The movie shows what he to endure as a young Hispanic man. He had to change his name from Ricardo Valenzuela to Richie Valens. His mother was a strong influence in his life and he was all about family. His brother Bob was quite the character!!
A few songs in the same vein as this song. The Casinos "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye", The Duprees "You Belong To Me", The Tymes "So much in Love". Late 50's, early 60's. SO GOOD!!!
Absolutely,
La Bamba is such an amazing movie!!!!
You should definitely check out Ritchie Valens song "Donna"
Just getting to your reactions today, it's my Friday so I need to relax and cut lose and the line up you have today is GOLD! Now to Mr. Valens, man it upsets me that plane took two great artists...what would have been. Ritchie and Buddy.
So innocent and so loving...
Hi guys, still shouting out for a Slade reaction to their Cum on feel the Noize, huge in the 70’s in the uk with hits in the 80’s and final one in the 90’s
Powerful vocals by Noddy Holder, one of best voices in rock according to Ozzy Osbourne and huge influence to Kiss
Come on, you know it makes sense 😉
You have to watch La Bamba. Lou Diamond Phillips is amazing.
Before Richie Valens "You're Mine" was done by Robert and Johnny and The Fireflies. Check them out as well.
You guys have GOT to watch the movie about Ritchie's life, LA BAMBA! You'll love it, not only for the story, but for the music, as well! Also, in terms of 1950s/1960s music, you have GOT to check out "Abraham, Martin, and John" by Dion! He was also on that same tour as Buddy, Ritchie, and the Big Bopper back in 1959.
You two need to react to “La Bamba” on your movie channel.
Y’all need and I mean NEED to watch La Bamba on your movie channel. One of my favorite movies of all time about Richie and his family.
The movie that they made about him is awesome. You really need to watch it. It tells a lot about his life and his upbringing.
I know it from John Carpenter's "Christine" (movie) 🤫
God, I hate rock n roll.
Eveytime I watch La Bomba I cry.
Y`all need to check out the new band of 3 sisters called The Warning, They are signed to Lava Records and recently performed their song Evolve at the MTV music awards. They also have a video for their new song Hell you call a Dream, live @ the Pepsi center 2023. You have been warned by Musik reactors jeremy and jillian.
Hi Jay & Amber, yes unfortunately we lost Richie, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and the pilot on 2/3/1959, a good one by Buddy is Down the Line with Bob Montgomery
true❤😢
Always loved this beautiful song, Ritchie had a beautiful voice, so sad that he died at such a young age.
This song was used in a movie called Christine 1983 a movie I highly recommend you check out guys. 😎👌📽️🍿🎸
You should react to La Bamba the movie about Richie Valens
The Ritchie Valens version is very good, but the original version in 1958 by Robert & Johnny was awesome.
Oh this song brings back so many memories ❤
You should really watch the movie LaBamba based on Ritchie Valens life on your channel.
It’s my favorite scene from La Bamba
I love this song in the film Christine I'm sure others will agree with me you should watch this great film.
I love this song, but this is my first time hearing it by him. The more famous version is sung by a male duo (don't know the name) singing lead and harmony. Great song. I need to see you react to, as someone already suggested in the comments, "Shake Rattle and Roll" by Big Joe Turner, but also "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby" by Louis Jordan.
Robert & Johnny were the duo.
You really should check out the movie La Bamba. Great movie ❤️
Ritchie kicked ass!!!
Love Richie valens👌🏴🇬🇧
Richie's music was always playing in our house, He died 3 months before I was born, and my mom was the same age as Richie and was a big fan.
This is so cool. I have never heard Ritchie Valens' cover of this song. I'm very familiar with the 1958 original version written and recorded by Robert and John. How beautiful is Ritchie's voice here. Absolutely stunning. I picture couples slow dancing together to this song.
Check out the movie "La Bamba", Los Lobos performed all the songs by Ritchie Valens.
I knew nothing about Ritchie Valens prior to the La Bamba film. He is now legendary. His voice is haunting. Love that 50s mono stereo sound. Timeless.
Another very late 50's and then 60's teen idol I don't think you've done is Bobby Vee. Very popular! He actually filled in at the age of 15 for a concert right after the plane crash that killed Holly, Valens, and The Big Bopper. He also was a help with a very young Bob Dylan. Recommend "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes'", "Take Good Care of My Baby", and "Come Back When You Grow Up".
When you reacted to the song "La Bamba", you actually watched the version from the movie with Lou Diamond Phillips playing Ritchie Valens. You should definitely watch the movie (it's very good) and also react to the original song. Keep up the good work, you guys are a lot of fun to watch.
Richie was only 17. Just starting off. So sad. Next week I’m heading to the Surf Ballroom where he performed for the last time. Then going to the crash site where him, Buddy Holly and Big Bopper tragically lost their lives 😢
This is a cover . The original of "We belong Together" was by Robert and Johnny .
Thanks!
Ritchie! Guys you got to watch the movie LA BAMBA, about Ritchie's life, from his childhood, rise to rock n roll stardom an his untimely death.
50's suggestion - "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" by Frankie Lymon And The Teenagers. Maybe check out Diana Ross's 1981 cover of the song too.
The movie would be GREAT for ya'll to watch!! LOVE THIS SONG!!! SO, SO GOOD! Such a shame....RIP, RITCHIE VALENS!!
First let me say, you guys are, this almost 60 yr old Rock n Rollers favorite reaction couple. You are both genuinely beautiful people. Thank you very much for a very very enjoyable channel. Ritchie and Buddy were great song writers and excellent guitarists, had they lived they would've ruled the 60's. It was a massive blow to Rock n Roll when they left us.... ✌❤🙂
Rip Ritchie
Oh my, I remember him singing this on the radio, sooooo long ago. Thanks Jay & Amber 👍💜💜
Ritchie's ghost looms large here!
this was on my sisters record player in the early 60's because I cant remember much of the 50's being born in 1955
Love this pick, glad you guys got to enjoy it. A couple of related anecdotes I’ve heard of the plane tragedy, you guys may have heard too-a young Bob Dylan saw Buddy Holly at his last performance score the crash, and also a young DJ -Waylon Jennings-gave up his plane seat to the big bopper…
This song is originally recorded in 1958 by Robert and Johony...their version made it a hit
His best song (and one of his only 2 hits) was "Donna." Beautiful.
Oh yeah. Beautiful. Kinder gentler music. Thank you.
Love his music
Loved your reactions. Yes, as others have said, y’all need to watch La Bamba.
Going way back with this song, it’s such a sweet song and I love his voice your definitely right Amber he did make the ladies 🫠
