Interesting. I'm still confused why there is still this push for high carbon steel blades, when they are just so prone to corrosion? It makes no sense. Nobody these days uses a knife as a steel with flint, which used to be the main reason. These days we have ferro cerium rods that only need a sharp 90 deg edge to produce sufficient sparks to ignite tinder to make a fire. Or a lighter! The knife has no lanyard hole; or jimping near the tip, so fine carving will be problematical. Using wood for the handle can also be an issue over time and when wet. It's interesting to hear you say it's easy to sharpen. Well, I've viewed several videos from some really prominent knifemakers who are on record saying that scandi knives are actually quite difficult to sharpen PROPERLY, especially in the field without some specialised equipment. Yes, one can put an edge on it in the field, but that usually means that it ends up with a secondary bevel at the edge, thus negating the whole advantage of the zero scandi edge. Fixing that back to a zero edge means lots of work and the removal of lots of steel. In my opinion, the new (and updated) Victorinox Venture Pro knife is a better proposition. I must place on record that doing batoning with a bushcraft knife is not something I would recommend, or do with smaller knives (or indeed even a large knife, and only under really serious conditions). There are many better alternatives. The Venture pro has a very fine edge which is great for feathersticking, and equal to scandi edges in performance, and is intended primarily for cutting. My few cents' worth. Cheers mate!
Excellent. I have a few knives and for I'd need that would be spot on. I usually have the MOD issue and a More or two but for a back up I have a Kukri I got from an older rellie who served with the chindits/ghurkas in 42 through 45 in Burma and India- quite a character who died in his bed at 93.
