I bought three different models because I don't think we're going to get anything at this price point unless it's Chinese garbage. I haven't seen a good knife this cheap in Canada since the Glock 78. Those are more than doubled in price now. These knives will rise in price soon but not yet
I got a BPS knife. Found the knife through another channel. Thought I'd find some more and found this video. It's amazing how they can make such a nicely made knife for that price.
Best knife I’ve had yet, 31 years in forces and I even bought another 2 to give as ideal presents for my grown up lads , good honest review of this knife
I have this knife and 3 others from BPS. The best production knives out of the box I have tested on my channel to date. Love to see them getting the recognition they deserve.
I purchased this knife last week. I agree 100% with your review. It's not my first BPS buy and I'm liking them more and more. I can't say enough good things about the "Adventurer". The sheath is exactly what you said...top line stuff (the Morakniv "Pathfinder" with a 6 5/8" blade fits the sheath very well). The fact that it comes from the Ukraine is an added bonus for me personally .... I DETEST buying ANYTHING from china ...period.
I spent the entire weekend looking for an affordable, 5 inch camp knife. Believe it or not there's not much out there in this category. You've sold me and I'm buying right now.
Excellent knife! I have many bps knives and even got blanks to make my own handles the adventurer is my favorite! I've beat the brakes off this knife really impressed with 1066! All their knives are great with real leather sheaths! Thanks to Ukraine and bps for great knives and for holding strong! Support Ukraine and buy a bps or check out beaver craft Ukraine has the knife game mastered for sure! Thanks for a great product 👍
I have this knife and can highly recommend it. Very affordable, but requires a bit of finishing. I removed the handle, lightly fine sanded the wood and added some dark stain (personal preference). Coated with Linseed oil. I added cold blue to the complete blade and tang with the exception of a fine taped area on blade edge. Also added cord to ferrocerrium rod. Total cost plus about twenty us dollars for stain and cold blue. Added some Mink Oil on leather sheath, which as you stated alone is worth total price. Compares now with $200-300 knives I own, but with some of my personalization. Peace
Thanks,I was looking at that knife. And I’ve trusted your opinion. So I’ve ordered it. Just getting started in bushcraft, and again,I’ve learned to trust your opinion.
My kids gave me this knife for Christmas this year. I haven't been able to take it out and run it through its paces, yet, but it sure seems well made with everything you need and nothing you don't need.
A detail that I REALLY appreciate is the sharpening choil. I think this should be a standard in the knife industry but seeing it on a knife of this price is awesome.

I have a BPS knife and like you said the sheath alone is worth the price of the knife. The knife held up great. Just strop it when you are done. 4 days in the woods and no damage. Thanks!
I just purchased the BPS Knives BS1FTS. It is a very good small knife. Haven't used it outside, but it works great in the Kitchen. I will buy at least one more of theirs. As for the sheath. I gave mine a good coat of Boiled Linseed oil, inside and out. Knife fits better, plus the leather sheath is now water proofed. Elm has the worst grain for splitting. I used to bury wedges in 8 foot long Elm logs, back when I was helping my Dad cut wood for his fireplace.
Bought one for my son this week, and gave it a good test drive together today up at the lake. Great knife and sheath for the price. Absolutely. Very happy to be supporting a Ukrainian company too.
I'm really excited about the value of this knife and others from BPS. I have this knife on the way and will be testing it out this weekend on a camping trip. Thanks for the review.

After a light sanding of the scales with a sanding sponge, and putting loctite on the allen screws (screws don't come with any), and a coating of boiled linseed oil, this is a great knife. All of that took maybe 3 minutes of work. Unbeatable for the price!
Howdy Mark i like the video, nice knife, I am a strong believer in every size knife has a use, I like the respect you give in your videos, and I have been watching your videos far a while, and I want to say thank you for the kindness in your words, taking the time to make these videos, hopefully people will watch these videos and learn something about life, respect, honesty, the beauty of nature, and how to live among nature like God intended for us to, some of the stuff you do I know, but I still learn from your videos, thank you, stay safe and God bless my friend
I'm very happy to hear they are back in buisness, I just finished ordering their Companion clone because I'm in love with it's blade shape and ergonomycs but always wished it would feel a bit heavier and with a more "breathable" handle material and what do you know, full tang and walnut handle, plus the leather sheath witch is always nice
I'm not remotely a bushcrafter, but this knife is a very good knife for small and large game and as a general camp knife. Nice review and all the best.
Yes they are great knives. I have the BPS Savage and as far as the grip is concerned, adding a liner will make it have a bit more girth. As for the finish, you can always sand down the handle with 1000 or 2000 grit sand paper. What I did to mine is I used gun blue on the entire blade to prevent corrosion. I love my BPS knife.
Picked up a adventurer off Amazon for 34 bucks! The sheath and ferro is worth more So impressed i got a mk1 to give it company.Condor you have competition.
I just got my B1 in carbon steel and my only complaint is the handle is a little small in my xl hand but still feels decent and fit and finish is very good and very hard to beat for the price I would highly recommend and plan to buy more
I just received this knife a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by the sheath and the knife. As you stated, it is sharp right out of the box. However, I did hit it on my Shapton ceramics...taking it to 12,000 grits. With maybe 10 minutes of work I was able to get this knife unbelievably sharp....frightening sharp and a mirror polish. The sheath is worth the total cost of this kit. Maybe in the future they will produce a knife made from blown up Russian armor....I would buy one in a heartbeat. Slava Ukraine.
Hi Mark, today i just recieved my B.P.S Knife. The H.K.5 version & i never did much with it....YET but it feels amazing in my hands & it razor sharp !! Shaves hair off my arm & cuts through paper like nothing. I think these knives are pretty much neck & neck with Mora Knives. Love the reviews & keep em coming !! 💯👋👍🤝
You should try the Savage next! I have 4 of their knives the Savage, adventurer, hk5 and the little 15 dollar one. The full flat grind on the Savage makes for one hell of a good cutter. Seriously worth the 35 dollars now. Back when I bought them like a year and a few months ago I paid like 28 each for the more expensive 3 and 14 or 15 for the little scandi.
Hello, Mr. Young; I ordered one Oct. 30, 2022 for $39.99 from amazon, received it Nov. 07. You're right, it is a great knife. I'm don't like expensive anything so $40 (+tax) is absolutely great AND it is really sharp, too. I have a Morakniv Craftline Basic 511 I paid $9.99 (+tax, amazon). It's a nice little knife but it's not as sharp & just not as much knife as my BPS. I also have a Schrade SCHF56L Large Frontier 9.1in, $29.42 (+tax, amazon). It's pretty heavy so when I carry it I put it in bag w/ a shoulder strap. The Schrade is a good knife but it's just another 'inexpensive' knife, not the knife the BPS is. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
I bought my Adventurer about a year and a half ago, for a mere $30, through Amazon. Best blade money I have ever spent. Recieved a smaller one last Christmas, as a present, and it has been part of my EDC since then. On my hip right now, in fact. It's my understanding that BPS are, of course, also supplying the Ukrainian military with the Adventurer model. I've not personally confirmed that, but I see no reason to doubt it. I have to admit that I was also surprised by the quality of the ferro rod that comes with it. So often, the ones that come with knives are not of such good quality.
I have also heard that BPS is supplying the Adventurer to their military. Says something about the quality as well. Other than bit small in my hand, I have complete confidence in these knives. Thanks for commenting
I just ordered a smaller model. Probably going to get this model later on. I don't mind a smaller handle because I have, like you, a few Grohmann knives. Quebec.
I have three bps knives now--and can't see a need for anything else. One is much like the Mora Companion, but with a nicer handle and sheath. And the BPs Savage is in a totally different catagory--a wider blade with a full flat grind that is a pleasure for food prep! And very elegant! The Scandi grind and a thick blade is not ideal for cutting vegetables.
This is a great knife 🔪 I own one and have been carrying it for about a year, my olny complaint is that blade is thinner than I like, personally I prefer 1/4 inch minimum for outdoor belt knife, but hay that's just me
Morning mark, wow, that’s some pretty high praise for a knife that actually is pretty cheap. First thing I saw though for me was that handle. My hands are size large in gloves, but they’re thin, so that and thanks to a broken pinky knuckle I need a fairly large handle. So I’ll stick to my Finnish knife. Hey, I tried the membrane solutions filter finally. It seems to have worked. No one got sick, but it leaks from the outlet cap, and man does it block quickly. Stupid me didn’t bring a bottle that fits to back flush, so I just rinsed the dirt off the face of the carbon filter by hand. I’m trying to see if I can find some sort of coarse prefilter I could fit inline. I suppose I also could have just gotten my feet wet and went out a bit deeper too, since it was a sandy, silty bank I was on, but that’s not always practical, or pleasant. The leaking is an issue though. I’ll have to take a better look at it now that I’m home.
I know what you mean about the knife. Strange to hear about the filter leaking. That is not good. I I wonder if a "millbank bag" would be good to use as a pre-filter. An extra step but worth it to keep the filter form clogging. Let me know if you get the leak sorted out
Millbank Bag is a canvas bag, like a large sock, used for filtering water such as river water. Simple and reliable. Is a British Army type device, with an NSN etc.
@@Surv1ve_Thrive So you propose using like a sleeve inside the reservoir? I think leaving it inside would give an off taste. I think pretty much anything would work, but the issue for me is how do I fill that 6L floppy, soft bag with pre-filtered water while I’m alone. I wish I could Sind some sort of rough filter that I could put inline. That would be easy.
It’s funny how nowadays marketing has people looking for certain steels. What makes it funny is they don’t understand toughness is much more important then edge retention. Marketing has people convinced then need the latest and greatest super steel. What many don’t know is most steels are over 20 years old. 1066, 1070 are amazing steels very tough yet easy to sharpen. The higher the carbon the more chance for being brittle. I prefer a tough knife that’s easy to sharpen. Maybe I should explain toughness in steel. I was taught it’s how much abuse a steel can take before it fractures. It’s much easier to fix a roll versus a chip. I’ve had this knife more then a year it’s a very good outdoor knife. They also have a flat ground model that’s more everyday useful. Any way my comment was made to help people realize steel is just a small part of knife. This knife is a great choice for many reasons. I’d just like to help people understand the knife companies use marketing to confuse people. Then for some reason I don’t understand people will argue about a brand. They won’t admit that the extra price doesn’t have a reason other then profit. Anyway my point is expensive doesn’t mean better, the latest steel doesn’t mean the best. Just look up m390, now it’s something else. Usually they are brittle and hard to sharpen. I hope this helps someone, but really buy what makes you happy. Don’t worry about the latest greatest or made by such and such. Very nice video
Thanks for the great review. Funny story I was thinking of getting a bushcraft knife last week and had decided on getting a mora bushcraft black because it was reasonably cheaper than other bushcraft knives at around 60 dollars and had good reviews online. So I said I'd wait and think about it but I was pretty sure I'd get that one.And then today you post this video about a knife that seems way better than the mora bushcraft for about 10-20 dollars cheaper and now I'm happy I waited before buying one instead of waisting the money. Thank you Edit:I seen you have a video on mora knives and I'm wondering in your opinion for a first bushcraft knife should I get the mora bushcraftblack or bps adventure?
Mora Bushcraft has a very comfortable handle. I can not compare it yet to BPS as I just ordered them. Hopefully Mark will chime in or do a budget bushcraft knife video featuring multiple brands he tested in the past.
Knives are such a personal choice. I personally very much like the Mora Bushcraft Black. I am currently testing the Mora Garberg but I still feel the Bushcraft Black is a better knife. BPS are good knives but not quite as good as Mora, especially the Bushcraft Black. Thanks for commenting
I just bought the knife. As I unboxed it I was so excited to have sheath house a ferro rod on the side because I’ve never had a sheath like that. Well putting the ferro rod into the loop was damn near impossible and even more impossible to take back out. I was very disappointed. Any suggestion how to loosen that loop?
Try wetting (very wet) the ferro-rod loop with water, then try inserting the rod. You may need to use something else to stretch it first. Once you get the rod in, leave it and let the sheath dry. It will hold the new shape after that. Remember, as you use the rod, it will get smaller. The bungee will help it from dropping out. Hope this helps
Yeah I really enjoy my BPS knives I believe that for the money they are one of the best knives out there for the money they don't fall into the same class when you double the money and have to go up to a joker or something like that then the money starts to matter but at thirty and forty dollars DPS can't be beat
I assume you mean the small notch at the base of the blade nearest the handle? It is a "sharpening choil". It is intended to allow the user to sharpen the whole length of the cutting edge but is not necessary. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft it’s also a stress reliever where the blade stock goes from thick to thin (handle thickness to edge thickness). That area is prone to cracking, especially when you use the spine as the “hammer”. Many more modern designs incorporate that.
All of these reviewers are coming out and saying they had the knife for a long time. Right! I bought one because of these reviews. Low price equals cheap here. I returned it the same day
I bought the beavercraft bsh3 now it's this guy's turn. In addition to being great knives it obviously helps Ukraine some, but you can also donate to to the Kiyv Independent online and get their aspect of the war.
I am not aware of any issue. BPS had shut down when they were first invaded but have since started back up and knives are shipping. Thanks for commenting
Worth noting tbat sheath is not leather. It would be amazing to get a sheath that size and thickness out if real leather for that price. Its basically a type of foam, which is why it is so firm.
Maybe I just got a bad one but here is the evaluation on mine. I guess we start with the rust. It isn't just surface rust. There is pitting. It's not in a critical area along the edge. It's mostly on the spine so I'm just going to deal with it since I didn't pay a lot for this knife. Next the edge is not a true scandi grind. It has a micro bevel at the very edge like the Mora I bought. Big thing here is the scandi grind isn't even on each side of the blade (angle is different on one side from the other - this will probably take a lot of work to fix - haven sharpened it yet so can't say for sure). It's full tang and the scales are not well fitted so I need to do some work to smooth out the sharp edges of the steel where it sticks out of the wood. The wood feels open? (porous) Specifications on the knife say it's been treated with danish oil? I'm going to sand it and apply BLO. 11/1 update. Was working some pine Saturday and it did fine on that, peeled off nice feathers. Was batoning some red oak plank sections that varied in thickness from 3/4 to 1/2 inch thick by about 12 inches long Sunday and the blade chipped. One small one maybe 1/2 mm by 1/2 mm. 11/2 update I put it to the stone last night to start working the chip out. Used a Buck soft Arkansas stone (been my go to for this kind of thing for 45 years). It was like rubbing two pieces of smooth glass against one another. Stayed at it for about 2 hours and got maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of the nick out. This knife has some hard steel. I expect it will really hold an edge but need to be careful with it and figure out something else for sharpening this one. Upgraded from 2 to 3 stars. Dropped the rating to one star. Feathered some pine the other night and the edge rolled. WTF? The only thing good I can say about this is if you set it on top of some papers it might keep them from blowing away. It will shave the hair off your arm, but it won't cut much more than that, razors are a lot less expensive.
Wow. sounds like you had a bad experience with your knife. My experience so far has been much better. I can suggest you may have received a bad example. It can happen with any company. Have you considered contacting BPS to se if they will help you out? Thanks for commenting
I can confirm that the company are up and running again. They do say on their website that there might be postal delays caused by the ongoing conflict. FYI The UK has removed import duty on goods arriving in the UK from Ukraine, to support ongoing trade during these troubled times.
BPS Knives Adventurer - Bushcraft Knife is 1066 Carbon steel, but most of the cheaper ones are just Carbon steel.... 1095 High Carbon steel hardened and then tempered makes for an excellent knife.
That's about as well as my feathersticks turn out lmao. I normally just end up with a bird's-nest of the pieces that fell off and just make due with that.

Thank you for your kind words. I am humbled
Right on. Thanks for commenting
I like it. Gonna have to get me one. Great job.
Well worth the money. Thanks for commenting
I agree. Best knife for the money I've found !
I hope to test out a few more. Thanks for commenting
I'm not remotely a bushcrafter, but this knife is a very good knife for small and large game and as a general camp knife.
Nice review and all the best.
I agree, a very versatile knife. Thanks for commenting
I just got one of these in today, initial impressions are very favorable and will see how it holds up in use.
For me, so far so good. Dull a bit faster than some steels but sharpens faster as well. Thanks for commenting
I have been considering adding liners as you say. Thanks for commenting
Picked up a adventurer off Amazon for 34 bucks! The sheath and ferro is worth more So impressed i got a mk1 to give it company.Condor you have competition.
They keep coming up with more designs as well. Thanks for commenting
Well Priced Combo, Great Performer. Thanks For The Demo, Mark ! ATB T God Bless
Thanks, you too!
I just got my B1 in carbon steel and my only complaint is the handle is a little small in my xl hand but still feels decent and fit and finish is very good and very hard to beat for the price I would highly recommend and plan to buy more
I am considering either replacing the scales or adding liners to beef up the handle some. Thanks for commenting
Great review! Thanks for making it!
Most welcome. Thanks for commenting
Love to own a few Shapton stones. Thanks for commenting
💯👋👍🤝
Thanks for commenting Derek
I heard a lot good things about this knife, so I ordered one today and find out
I am sure you will like it. Thanks for commenting
I will take a look. Thanks for commenting
Hello, Mr. Young;
I ordered one Oct.
You are right on. Expensive knives are not needed to enjoy the outdoors. Thanks for commenting
Love those knives...have 3 of them small med and larger sorry forgot the names of them. Great real leather sheathes....well worth the money.
Right on. Best bang for buck out there. Thanks for commenting
Just got mine today and I'm loving it! Solid knife for sure.
Right on. Thanks for commenting
Quebec.
Yes, there is a place for smaller knives in everyone's kit. Thanks for commenting
Amazon had $10 off special, couldn't resist. My 2nd one.
Love your reviews and the channel in general.
Thank you for your kind words
I have their B1 Camping. As a Swede it hurts to admit it, but my Garberg has not left its storage shelf since I tried the BPS.
I hear what you are saying. The Garberg is nice but a bit overbuilt. Thanks for commenting
I prefer full-flat grind or high sabre grind for that very reason. Thanks for commenting
Thanks mate, great review.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting
This is a great knife 🔪 I own one and have been carrying it for about a year, my olny complaint is that blade is thinner than I like, personally I prefer 1/4 inch minimum for outdoor belt knife, but hay that's just me
wow, 1/4" is a thick blade. I do like heavy large knives but for a belt knife I prefer something much thinner. Thanks for commenting
Let me know if you get the leak sorted out
@@MarkYoungBushcraft what the heck is a "milbank" bag?
And yes ,I’ll let you know about the leak
@@jimf1964 sorry about that. Here is a link to one. Worth looking into. I plan to make one shortly www.etsy.com/ca/listing/756602010/millbank-bag
These are great knives!
Right on. Thanks for commenting
Excellent information from you experience. Thanks for commenting
Very similar design to the Bravo 1.25 LT minus the scandi grind. I'd love to test that scandi against the Bravos convex
Bark River makes great knives. Unfortunately, I do not have any right now. Thanks for commenting
Great review, and knowing it’s made in the Ukraine, I am supporting this country and placing a purchase on this awesome bushcraft knife. 👍🏼
Right on. Thanks for commenting
Cool knife.. Is there any way to make that blade less shiny though ?
As it is carbon steel you could cold blue the blade. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft Thank you
Thanks for the great review.
Thank you
Edit:I seen you have a video on mora knives and I'm wondering in your opinion for a first bushcraft knife should I get the mora bushcraftblack or bps adventure?
Mora Bushcraft has a very comfortable handle. I can not compare it yet to BPS as I just ordered them. Hopefully Mark will chime in or do a budget bushcraft knife video featuring multiple brands he tested in the past.
Knives are such a personal choice. I personally very much like the Mora Bushcraft Black. I am currently testing the Mora Garberg but I still feel the Bushcraft Black is a better knife. BPS are good knives but not quite as good as Mora, especially the Bushcraft Black. Thanks for commenting
What do you do if you find some rest on your blade or if you take the scales off and find some Rust underneath the scales what's your cure for that
No rust yet but I would remove with sandpaper and wipe on/off with Barsitol. Keeping it dry and regular maintenance as a best defense. Thanks
Very thorough review. Thanks for making such good quality videos. 🇨🇦🍻
Thank you for your kind words
I bought one of these knives and it seems like it is going to be a good functioning knife for a reasonable price
Yes, exactly. Thanks for commenting
Did you get around to adding liners ?
No, but thanks for the prompt. May be easier to make a whole new set of scales from some thicker wood. Thanks for commenting
Aren't they hex head Chicago screws?
I believe you are correct. Thanks for commenting
Can u tell me wich one is better? Srk or the bps adventurer
The BPS is the batter value but the SRK is a stronger knife, except for the tip. I have a review of the SRK. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft no problem and thx
Use the belly of the knife for feather sticks. Guaranteed curls. Mine were sometimes hit and miss till I watched a video with Mors Kochanski.
Thanks for the tip
Yeah I really enjoy my BPS knives I believe that for the money they are one of the best knives out there for the money they don't fall into the same class when you double the money and have to go up to a joker or something like that then the money starts to matter but at thirty and forty dollars DPS can't be beat
Best bang for buck for sure. Thanks
I have this knife. It is a great knife indeed. What is the knotch on the blade for? Thank you.
I assume you mean the small notch at the base of the blade nearest the handle? It is a "sharpening choil". It is intended to allow the user to sharpen the whole length of the cutting edge but is not necessary. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft oh, i see. Thank you, sir.
I returned it the same day
Thanks for commenting
I bought the beavercraft bsh3 now it's this guy's turn. In addition to being great knives it obviously helps Ukraine some, but you can also donate to to the Kiyv Independent online and get their aspect of the war.
Right on. I have Beavercraft knife and hatchet I am testing. Good to support Ukraine. Thanks for commenting
Mark love your reviews. Is there any problem shipping from Ukraine? Thanks
I am not aware of any issue. BPS had shut down when they were first invaded but have since started back up and knives are shipping. Thanks for commenting
Sno-Seal? You can't get more old school than that!
I think I have had this can for at least 20 years. Never gets old. Thanks for commenting
Worth noting tbat sheath is not leather. It would be amazing to get a sheath that size and thickness out if real leather for that price. Its basically a type of foam, which is why it is so firm.
BPS must have made a change as my sheath is real leather. Thanks for commenting
Good knife! I have one, it won't be my last.
I am hoping to test out a few more. Thanks for commenting
Not only up and running but adding to their line of knives. Thanks for commenting
BPS Knives Adventurer - Bushcraft Knife is 1066 Carbon steel, but most of the cheaper ones are just Carbon steel....
1095 High Carbon steel hardened and then tempered makes for an excellent knife.
I agree, 1095 properly heat treated is a good carbon steel as is 1066. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft
1095 is High carbon steel, 1066 is Carbon Steel.- Big Difference !
@@rtoguidver3651 Thanks for pointing that out.
That's about as well as my feathersticks turn out lmao. I normally just end up with a bird's-nest of the pieces that fell off and just make due with that.
