As I always say, makeover do not have to be so expensive, invasive or drastic. While I do want to reno and demo to make all Holly's kitchen dreams come true; she wants to do some big changes that are going to require a lot more time and a larger budget. Since I am unable to do that, I wanted to see what I could do for less than $200. Remember that it isn't my way or the highway and to tailor your space to your needs and lifestyle as I did here for Holly and her home.

The fact that you try all of these diy’s and continually learn is so admirable. I love ‘trying’ new things but all of my ‘try’s’ are all similar to one another because I’m terrified to make a disaster zone! Thank you so much for sharing your journey and putting it all out there for us to see and other’s to judge... I’d love to know if these people ‘judging or harshly critiquing’ you have even tried half of the things that you have...

Rachel, your videos inspire me so much. My dad made me watch him work on houses when I was little, but he never let me use the tools. he wanted me to learn just from watching. But, I'm older now and learning I have to learn how to use tools on my own using youtube and mistakes! Your videos really inspire me to fix things on my own. I'm so proud of your growth through this hard patch in your life and I'm very excited to continue to watch you grow

I watch a lot of DIY videos I mean, a LOT (I think I have a problem, lol) but I have to say I really enjoy yours. You have a very down to earth approach to what you do, the videos don't LOOK cheap and you're very honest about mistakes you make (even filming them) so we can see it all takes a lot of work but isn't always "so easy". I even like the music you use, lol! I can't remember how many of yours I've watched BUT this one made me a subscriber - thanks for sharing!

Wow, that does look fantastic. You really took it from outdated to stylish and modern without breaking the bank.
Although I'm not a fan of open shelving for practical reasons, myself. I did that, when I built my first kitchen and while it looked fantastic, the stuff up there gets dusty/greasy so quickly, it's just not worth it for me. It's a completely personal decision, obviously, but I would hate for other people to copy this style, without being aware of the drawbacks. It really sucked, to have to take it all down again, to install closed cabinets after all.
It sucked even more, to go through all that trouble, just to move out shortly afterwards, but that's a whole different story. I'm sure, you can symphasize ;-))

There are never "reactions" since she lives here. I also like to keep some of my life private! I have one video of how we do that in part one of the fireplace makeover. We really don't talk much about the process since I use her Pinterest board for reference. When I slow down the amount of videos I put out each month next year, I will for sure incorporate things like this.

      Eehh.
I can see how free labor is a substitute for living "rent free" but free labor AND buying the supplies are NOT the same.
Shit all the money Rachel is investing in to Holly's renovations can be used to pay rent.
      Literally.
On top of all that, Holly can sell that house for WAAAYYY more than she paid for it because Rachel lived "rent free".
Trust me, i understand staying busy can be therapy but Holly would have to run me my money for "being busy".
Long story short, Holly's free renovations look nice.

@@stilllearning3012 Girl I’m with you 💯 exactly!!!!!! Something about that type of arrangement doesn’t sit right with me. Rachel is talented in her own right that she would automatically be the “go to” for hire gal by clients that would afforded her sufficient income to have her own place. I agree labor and paying for equipment/supplies are not the same. Nailed it!

Next time, try just putting some sheetrock behind for support rather than a 2x4. Plenty of spackle or mudd works. Drill it from the front to the backside and leave sticking out so you can put the sheetrock back...you can remove the screws once that mudd is dry. THEN put the old sheetrock back in place. So easy to do. Works every time, and you already are using mudding compound and sheetrock. Easier than using a saw and trying to find some lumber. Just sayin..............

It really irks me that she has to always say that the comment section always tells her that she’s doing something wrong. LIKE LET HER BE! She’s showing us HER DIY. If you know the technical way great, no need to always put her down for it. I honestly feel so bad that she feels the need to always put that as a disclaimer. I have been watching home improvement shows since I was a little kid and this is the first show I have watched that actually makes me feel encouraged to try things myself. The fact that you are so open about just trying things, making mistakes, going back, and fixing them makes doing my own projects seem WAY less intimidating. It's helping me learn that even if I do make a mistake, that's how you learn! So thank you from the bottom of my heart. YOU ARE AMAZING. Please keep doing what you're doing because it's so refreshing and wonderful. You're an inspiring badass.

Thanks for reminding us you need a just do it attitude to learn and make progress! I get so stuck on perfection I talk myself out of starting most projects. I love that you're honest about having crappy lazy moments and working through them. Takeaway is that if you stay focused and keep chipping bit by bit, you'll end up with your own masterpiece!

One of the things that I love from your channel is how realistic the whole process is, how things are done in phases. It's important to show all these because realistically when we're doing DIY, more likely than not, we're going to face some bumps, whether it's just plain exhaustion, some mental blocks, or what-have-you.

People- please?! As someone who is also DIY obsessed, renovating my entire house basically on my own, also recently split from a breakup- I relate so much. We even kind of look alike 😂 but it seriously bothers me, not that you apologize and acknowledge the negative comments or people chastising your process- BUT that most people leaving those comments have no idea how hard it is to take on the kind of projects you do. Much less solo, while filming, editing, creating a blog space, paid promos, etc everything. as. a. One. Woman. Show. RESPECT 🙏🏼 Rachel Metz has every right to come off how ever the fuck because I’m sorry, it’s authentic and yes, exhausting. You go girl, I live for the sass because well, I’m the same way 😂 idk what my channel is going to look like. It’s hard enough to get started on the job, then before you do that you gotta pre job with camera equipment, batteries, storage, file organization, on and on and on.. job inception 🤯 don’t apologize, give em hell 🤘🏼
