Future tip - fill the holes in the cabinets with a wood filler epoxy as it will last forever and not chip out, contract, expand etc. The filler you used is meant for drywall, not wood or particleboard.
🎊Thank you. I wondered about that. It doesn't take much effort to ask someone @ the hardware store such questions. Using the right products are key...even on a rental.
You have to wash it then sand it then wash it and let it dry and you can basically use any paint in a semi gloss, just definitely have to sand it first!
@@martakalinowska3368 heirlooms traditions makes an all in one chalk paint that has primer and wax/topcoat in it. Ummm, don’t listen to Mommyandbunny if you want the paint on your fridge to be durable and last more than a couple of months. For longer lasting paint, either listen to Carrie Fiddler’s advice ☝️☝️☝️or use an appliance epoxy paint like Rust-Oleum. If you’re going to use regular paint like Mommyandbunny did, you should at least apply a clear enamel gloss protective spray on top of that paint otherwise your fridge will end up looking like crap.
I love all the people saying none of this is renter friendly, she added a disclaimer before any of it saying some of them were a little more renovative and that it was cleared with the landlord beforehand. None of yall actually listen. Any project, even a relatively major one can be renter friendly. You just have to ASK YOUR LANDLORD if they are okay with whatever it is you're trying to do. Most will be fine with it as long as they consider it an improvement and they don't have to pay for it, but some may even deduct the cost from your rent if they're nice.
Yes it's always best to ask because it can't hurt I'd they say no or get upset if you didn't ask beforehand. My niece and her husband have done that with great results. The landlord appreciates them asking before doing anything and most times he gives them the supplies or helps them buy the right things. They've wanted to move away but they love the place even tho it's a rental and the landlord would hate his best tenants moving away 😊
I think what people are annoyed with is the title of the video when it is so different in the actual video people just get irritated and think of it as clickbait

Some landlords are fine with minor upgrades so long as they aren’t over the top. It’s absolutely recommended to check your lease, or talk to your landlord. They may surprise you.
Having been a landlord I can say if one of my renters came to me and showed me what they want to do.....Id say have at it....It made her apt. look so much better....its a win-win for the landlord......Nice job! PS.....A lot of renters arent this nice or this clean! Im no longer a landlord!!!!
my landlord was so happy when I sent him a list of things I wanted to do to this old house because I'm actually upgrading it and it kind of makes the property value go up. The light fixtures and doors were outdated and he said I can fix them. Also the walk in closet system is weird. the way the bars are lined up makes it hard for us to actually walk in, so hes happy that im fixing that as well. I was actually thinking about making videos on me upgrading my house because I estimate that its only gonna cost me $200 to do my entire kitchen. But its on my instagram story.
Believe it or not. There are places. I just score a in law tiny house and the owners told me go crazy make it your own no kidding. I am planning painting the walls :D

Those pink tiles 😱 OMG ! I'm really not big on pink (like at all ^^') but they make such a massive difference in your kitchen. You did a really great job with that kitchen. Congratulations 😊
Ikr? The house I grew up in was built in the mid-1950s so the kitchen and bathroom were pink. We redid the bathroom when I was a kid but had that pink kitchen counter until we left in 2013.
I never would have thought to spray paint my frig handles....wow, that really changes the appearance of your frig! It all looks really nice and well planned - I can’t believe what you accomplished on a small budget!
Near the end of this video I was think “Jesus she looks familiar”. And then I saw the youtubers name and realized: we went to high school together. Awesome reno Alexandra!
I love this makeover! I am a long time renter and my landlord has allowed me to make improvements, such as paint new knobs, etc. It makes all the difference in your quality of life and is an improvement/update that the landlord doesn't have to do. Great job! Consider me inspired.
This makeover is loaded with great ideas. I love the pink backsplash -- especially since you don't need to hire someone to put it in. And, the countertops look like ceramic tile. I would not have guessed them to be made of wood. They are spectacular. I just love, love, love your rental makeover. BRAVA!
Who else's mouth dropped when Alexandra brought new rings tops for the cooker? lol It never entered my head to even look if you could buy them. Your videos make my heart happy and I love your hair up - shows off your natural beauty ☺️
Also, you can lift the whole stove top up(on most, not all) to clean under the burner drip trays (yes what you replaced were the drip trays, not the burners/elements). This is a good tip, because it seems like you may need to give it a good cleaning. Fun transformation overall.
The new counter and sink totally just refreshed the whole area, also the new inserts in stove helped stove look a lot better too. Well done, it all looks great.
Changing out the stovetop covers and spraying the fridge door handles... genius! I will be doing and will even take that idea to the bathroom and spray the metal towel rods.
The first person to actually point out that ppl need to ask first. Thank you!!! As a landlord, it’s totally upsetting when ppl just do stuff and don’t ask.
Love this! All these tips are super inspiring. 💕 Tip: You can easily lift your entire stovetop (it’s hinged), wipe it out, and scrub it clean, when necessary, with a blue Scotch-Brite pad and Barkeeper’s Friend. (Same for burner drip pans, to keep them clean and free of build-up - you shouldn’t use foil in them.) Also, hardware stores generally charge less than $16 for burner drip pans, so be sure to shop around if you’re on a tight budget and need to replace any. (P.S. Never soak your burner coils- it’ll ruin them. Just wipe them carefully and dry well.)
You should have painted the drywall before putting those tiles on. Because, even if you heat them-the way you did it, it’s going to tear the paper coving off the drywall when you try to remove it. Just an observation.
I love your channel! You have inspired me to invest in making everyday things into something I can love. Thank you for opening my eyes to the power of a knob change! Life changing ♥️

What a wonderful Reno on your now adorable kitchen. I love love love those counter tops, the wood just makes it look so rich and gorgeous, also loving that farmhouse sink. Love this Reno. I'm such a fan look forward to each episode. Gentle suggestion though the backslash should be primed and painted first before sticking tiles or paper of drywall will tear with removal of tiles. Keep up amazing work.
flower Star01 this happened to me too! home depot quoted 20,000 to reface kitchen cabinets with plastic vinyl stuff and someone local sanded and painted professionally for 5,000
What a great makeover!! What I love about your changes are the affordability....since it is geared for renters but certainly owners on a modest budget can decorate at a decent price. Love the backsplash idea!!! and cupboard up-cycle...wow!!
You rock with these sort of makeovers! You take what might seem like a huge expensive project and pull it off on a budget! I'm truly inspired and ready to tackle our kitchen!!
One good trick for holes is to tap a wooden golf tee into the hole, cut off the excess, then sand and sparkle. This prevents slipping into the old hole if you are drilling close to it. BTW, my dream fridge would be vintage fire engine red.
True not many rentals would ok this. But she explained at the start of the vid that she explained and asked permission for everything. Helps that she has some You Tube evidence that she does an amazing job so her landlord said hell yeah!
You’d be surprised when it comes to private rentals what they’re willing to let you do. It saves them money and makes the apartment more desirable whenever they move out
I would so let my tenant do this as long as we both agreed with the changes that are to be made. This definitely upgraded this apartment.😁💕💕💕👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🍾🏠
This was fantastic. Favourite part was definitely the new bench tops. It made such a difference!! Would have loved for you to have shared the cost breakdown 😊👍 great job!
Omg! You totally upgraded this entire kitchen! I really think your Landlord should pay you back for that sink, faucet & gorgeous counter top! Amazing job! Love every single detail! Enjoy!
Cute Reno. chevron countertops (not to be confused with herringbone) are so rich and really warm up the space and give it a natural look. Great video, sweet Marty!
I would just leave her/him everything. You do it for yourself and to be comfy, no matter if the landlord cares about that or not. It's a gift and good karma.
hmm it depends but changes like this like the sink and wall changes I would undoubtedly leave it. But then there are people that even take their light bulbs with them 🤣 oh well is their right but at least leave one to see on the apartment man!
@@tinasme Alexandra said that she gave her landlord a list of everything she wanted to do--she didn't do the reno selfishly and without regard to what the landlord cares about.
Can I just say this series is so needed and helpful? I live with my sister and we rent the place. We're allowed to hang stuff on the wall and paint them, but are required to paint them back to white or neutral tones when we leave. We still have 4 more years before we can decide to leave or not, but at any rate we can't make permanent changes and it doesn't make sense that we spend a lot of money on a place we know we won't live at for a long time. So thanks for this!
The adhesive behind the fake tiles needs a flat surface with no air bubbles etc behind it. If the grouting of the old tiles is lower than the surface of the tiles then it will create long lines of air that would slowly undo the stickiness of the new tiles and they'd fall off. If you don't want to take all the old tiles off. Then after cleaning them, use putty or more grouting to bring the lines level; sand it flat and then add the new tiles. Still not optimum though. It would be best to get back to the original wall and make it flat.
Some owners allow you to make upgrades in their rental if it will upgrade the value. That’s what you’ve done and I love it. You must have a great rapport with the owner. 🌺
Beautiful kitchen makeover....I love your videos, and you are a great stiylist with everything you do. I look forward to your videos and always take lots of notes for my future projects. Thank you for all your amazing work.
It would be really interesting to see a video where you do a moving out from made over rental, where you have to give the apt back so you have to turn everything into its original state. I think that would help and motivate many people in doing a makeover
It's charming and feminine. For my fridge l was able to get a fridge door sticker in leopard l haven't installed it yet but look forward to that. My favoriite aspect of this makeover is the pink backsplash. The sweet little cat is adorable.

Sky you can tell too, it looks horrible 😂
Thanks for the tip. I've only ever filled drywall so I'll use wood filler epoxy if I ever fill cabinet holes.
And plus, it looks horrible because of the texture after she painted the wood
She's going to replace the nobs back when she leaves. No biggie.

Loved the final look.thanks for telling about the bamboo brush. Great replacement of sponges
One good trick for holes is to tap a wooden golf tee into the hole, cut off the excess, then sand and sparkle. This prevents slipping into the old hole if you are drilling close to it. BTW, my dream fridge would be vintage fire engine red.
Did you seal your countertops? I would love an update on how they hold up.
I was wondering the same, because if you don't they will warp.
Wood counter tops are a nightmare. They’re so not functional. We had butcher block counter top for 2 years and it was horrible
Mary McRickard, if you take care of them and oil them they are no problem whatsoever! Had ours for three years and no problems.
@@McRose4 I had the same experience, they were an absolute nightmare!
this is one of the best put together/edited videos for a reno i’ve ever seen.
How tf is replacing your countertop and sink rental friendly
True not many rentals would ok this. But she explained at the start of the vid that she explained and asked permission for everything. Helps that she has some You Tube evidence that she does an amazing job so her landlord said hell yeah!
You’d be surprised when it comes to private rentals what they’re willing to let you do. It saves them money and makes the apartment more desirable whenever they move out
I would so let my tenant do this as long as we both agreed with the changes that are to be made. This definitely upgraded this apartment.😁💕💕💕👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🍾🏠
Asked the same question.
I think having a private renter made all the difference with this request. An apartment complex would probably never okay this.
i never was a big fan of pink but lately i've been loving it so seeing your pink backsplash made me consider getting pink tiles for my bathroom walls!
Enjoy!
LOVE how it turned out!! So cute!!
Very nice ! I change out the cover to electric plugs and light switches in my rentals. It also makes a huge difference and easy!!
You can take your frige to someone who paints cars and paint it mint green my friend did it and it looked AMAGING ❤️
Love ur space an kitchen renovation. White makes any room big. No matter if it small .👍👏
Does the door to the left of the sink open completely now that your sink extends past the benchtop?
Doesn’t look like it. 😂
I wondered too!
My fav fridge color is the color of the cupboards, ie; I love those hidden fridges and dishwashers that blend right into the cabinetry.
Makes me anxious that you don’t have a draining board for your dishes next to your sink 😱😱
Cute Reno. chevron countertops (not to be confused with herringbone) are so rich and really warm up the space and give it a natural look. Great video, sweet Marty!
So, how would this work when you move out? Would you put all the old stuff back (i.e., the sink, etc.)? Or would you cut a deal with the landlord?
I would just leave her/him everything. You do it for yourself and to be comfy, no matter if the landlord cares about that or not. It's a gift and good karma.
hmm it depends but changes like this like the sink and wall changes I would undoubtedly leave it. But then there are people that even take their light bulbs with them 🤣 oh well is their right but at least leave one to see on the apartment man!
@@tinasme Great answer! :-) Agreed!
@@tinasme Alexandra said that she gave her landlord a list of everything she wanted to do--she didn't do the reno selfishly and without regard to what the landlord cares about.
The mint frig wld look spectacular with the pink backsplash omg
Honestly, a light pink fridge, like from the 1950's are so cute!
That peel and stick tile looks stunning!
FYI regarding terminology: you didn’t replace the stove “burners”; you replaced the drip pans.
So thanks for this!
i LOVE the herringbone butcher block counter tops!!!!
It looks wonderful!!! Its a Great Vibe!! And so are you!!! Thank you so much!!!🤗🤗🤗
Can you put the fake tiles on top of real tiles? Or do you need a blank wall?
The adhesive behind the fake tiles needs a flat surface with no air bubbles etc behind it. If the grouting of the old tiles is lower than the surface of the tiles then it will create long lines of air that would slowly undo the stickiness of the new tiles and they'd fall off. If you don't want to take all the old tiles off. Then after cleaning them, use putty or more grouting to bring the lines level; sand it flat and then add the new tiles. Still not optimum though. It would be best to get back to the original wall and make it flat.
I love the pink fake tiles! those would look awesome in a bathroom or toilet as well!
you could paint your fridge mint green? i would love to see a diy like this. also: love the kitchen!
Some owners allow you to make upgrades in their rental if it will upgrade the value. That’s what you’ve done and I love it. You must have a great rapport with the owner. 🌺
I'd love to have you have a tenant!!! You took on the cost and turned the kitchen into a dream place. #besttenantEVER
The pink back splash is everything 😍😍
You just brought the cost of that apartment up wow it’s so cute!
That peel and stick tile is awesome😍
Your kitchen turned out just gorgeous and you are a delight to watch. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Love✌💗 from sunny🌅 Greece⛵💦
WOW! My fav is the pink peel and stick tiles.
I don’t have a dream fridge but of we’re talking dream furniture, I want a Canary yellow corduroy couch!
Great way of making your kitchen a vibe... awesome.
This looks amazing, I gotta ask though: did you end up changing how you store your dishes while they’re drying?
I notice that as well. I guess she will put it back after filming.
Beautiful kitchen makeover....I love your videos, and you are a great stiylist with everything you do. I look forward to your videos and always take lots of notes for my future projects. Thank you for all your amazing work.
Dream fridge: Pink with Neon lights 💖💪🏻
It would be really interesting to see a video where you do a moving out from made over rental, where you have to give the apt back so you have to turn everything into its original state. I think that would help and motivate many people in doing a makeover
Wow, I just want to move and then have a reno-party with you!
It's charming and feminine. For my fridge l was able to get a fridge door sticker in leopard l haven't installed it yet but look forward to that. My favoriite aspect of this makeover is the pink backsplash. The sweet little cat is adorable.
Looks like your door to that bottom corner cabinet is being blocked because of the sink....
interior design nightmare
It actually looks like it does open. Once the door is open it backs up against the sink.
@@TheDoll1988 that's not how geometry works. i want proof it opens haha
@@TheDoll1988 ua-cam.com/video/DOdd4d5IEPM/v-deo.html no that doesn't open correctly
@@TheDoll1988 yeah it definitely opens, maybe just not all the way
The tiles are AWESOME 😻, your landlord y as to be very happy with the change.
I had an avocado green stove from the 1960s in my old apartment and wanted a lilac fridge but I got vetoed 🙄😂. I still want one though lol
I am so pumped to reno my rental. Hubby and I just moved to a new place and I can’t wait to make it my own! Thanks for sharing!!
