I was there. Only requirement is you had to scream. So much fun. Filmed at the Santa Monica Auditorium. Santa Monica High school was located next to it. Everyone got to see this for free. Great performances from so many groups.
No fancy lighting, just straight up sound and excitement. No speeding up or slower for live, sounding just like the record, raw. Excellent show, nice to see Brian. Thanks.

The Early Stones were the best with Brian In the Group. Yes, they had great songs after Brian died, but AS A ROCK N ROLL/BLUES BAND, they were far better in the early years.
I had a friend who was a huge Stone fan He even bought their first LP which mostly cover of classic. Well he bought their first four albums before he was drafted and went to Nam He never came back and I have those LP’s which I can’t bring myself to play . God I hated that war. Destroyed my generation

I graduated from Venice Hi in 1964, what a great year to be alive and hear the Stones, we were young and so were they. Probably the best concert and best collection of talent ever put together PERIOD. !
The energy is fantastic ,it comes through the film unbelievably well .Love it when Mick walks towards the crowd smacking the hell out of those maracas,whiping that crowd into a frenzy .The Stones at their very best.

I lived in England from '63 to '66 and saw The Stones at the Granada Theatre in Bedford in late 1963. Charlie Watts was the secret to this band. Phil Collins: "A great drummer will make a good band a great one".
Notice Keith's guitar... A sunburst Les Paul Standard, a model that was first made in 1958 then discontinued in 1960. Keith bought the guitar in NYC in 1964 during a US tour and brought it back to England where guys like Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page were knocked out by the biting tone and awesome sustain. Perhaps "Keef's" biggest contribution to rock'n' roll was to introduce the Les Paul Standard to the guitarists in England. (Not a lot of the guitars were produced and thus there were few, if any, in England in 1964.) Years later Keef gave/sold the guitar to Mick Taylor - Brian's replacement in the Stones - who removed the Bigsby tailpiece and installed a standard bridge assembly.
Was Keith or Dave Davies (The Kinks) the first to use an Epiphone Casino? That guitar is mainly linked to The Beatles, but only Paul acquired an Epi in late '64 (John & George got their Casinos in '66)

I was 16 when they exploded onto the scene in 1964 they were a sensation being so very different I have to laugh when I hear Mick putting on his faux southern accent Being as he was a boy from Dartford a suburb 20 miles down river from central London. However I must congratulate the stones for still performing after 60 years if you had told me back in the 60s that they would be going strong when Mick was 78 years old I would’ve laughed and laughed. Now I am just amazed! Good on them

@Jim McCracken Charlie was the perfect type of drummer for the Stones. He wasn't the flamboyant type, which is why a lot of people didn't pay him much attention. I've heard it said that the drummer is truly the backbone of a band.

"I'm alright" one of the easiest Stones songs my band covered in the 60's. The choreography excepted. We played a frat party at Cornell in the fall of 1966 and they ate it up, doing moves I wouldn't see again until Animal House.
Yeah I love seeing them and especially Brian so fired up. They normally didn’t get to play so many songs on the television shows. I wish there was more concert footage from this era.
In reality Wyman said that he was not cool at all, having alway a gun or knife on him, he said he was the kind of guy who tried to beat you at schoolyard.

I also love his rhythm in The Last Time. It’s such a simple lick but it sets the haunting moody tone for the song that just wouldn’t be there without it.
Nice to see Brian so happy and moving around his portion of the stage and engaging the audience. Pretty soon Oldham would put a stop to that and have him planted almost in one spot like Wyman.

@Bob Raisbeck yeah they have always done their best to deliver really special shows. They care about the fans and it shows. I remember reading in 1975 or 78 that Mick heard they were scalping tickets for just outrageous prices so he bought a bunch and just handed them out to people

Yeah I love seeing them and especially Brian so fired up. They normally didn’t get to play so many songs on the television shows. I wish there was more concert footage from this era.

Nice to see Brian so happy and moving around his portion of the stage and engaging the audience. Pretty soon Oldham would put a stop to that and have him planted almost in one spot like Wyman.

@Bob Raisbeck yeah they have always done their best to deliver really special shows. They care about the fans and it shows. I remember reading in 1975 or 78 that Mick heard they were scalping tickets for just outrageous prices so he bought a bunch and just handed them out to people

Interesting that they've come back full circle. They've been doing a tune for the first time since back then . I think it's " Out of time " I heard it and compared it to the first live performance and can't say which is better . The " Timeless Stones " . 😎

The fact that they weren’t required to lip synch and play live is an accomplishment in it’s self.

Charlie Watts- Quite the Drummer!! And only one the Stones have needed, or have had!! For 58 years. Amazing!!!
In the early days (way before they were famous) they begged Charlie to be in the band. He finally agreed and the rest is history!
Keith sees him as the backbone of the band. He rolled with guitar changes and even when Bill checked out but I don’t think he would have kept the band together if Charlie had tapped out.
