I appreciate all the minor "mistakes" like spilling, not fitting into a bowl and so on! It's not perfect and that's why I can relate to these videos. It's not "perfect", "plastic", "fake", "directed". We just get this home-vibe. Love it!

Mujadara is one of my all time favourite dishes, and is usually made with rice (after you saying it reminds you of Kitchari). So simple, but flavoursome, delicious, and utterly comforting!

This looks gorgeous, especially with the cumin spice which I am addicted to. I'm a bit low on bulgar wheat so I am using some pearl barley..Hope it works ok

Apart from probably air-frying the onions without oil
this is a great recipe for my diet
combining alliums, starches and legumes (especially lentils)
The sort of dish like kushari
(I know the Egyptian version with rice, lentils and pasta)

I made mujadara (for the first time) quite recently, but with rice. I've got some bulgur wheat in the cupboard, though, so I'll definitely try this version - I'm trying to eat more vegetarian and vegan meals, and the fried onion, lentil and starch combo with spices is so incredibly satisfying to eat 😋.
    Thanks Chetna!

Same here - needing to use bulgur wheat which was just sitting in cupboard so will make this. I’m sure we’ll both like it very much because Mujadara with rice is delicious, nutritious and healthy!

I have two comments: you don’t say wether or not to cover the lentils when cooking, and should I shut off the heat when I put the tea towel on top of the pan? I did ask a previous question that went unanswered: can I use broth instead of water?

Bulger, lentils, and onions are some of my favorite foods. This dish looks perfect to me, but my husband would like a sauce with it. Tahini plus yogurt would suit him well.

alternatively, you could try toum, Lebanese garlic sauce, just garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and a bit of salt if desired. could serve toum and yogurt on the side, and he could decide to add it on or keep it on the side.

It's okay. Cooking the bulgur in fresh water allows it to be more nutritious and easily digestible. Nothing wrong here!
