Have been watching your adventures for a year or so...me still here in Phoenix doing the garden thing and selling my own organic harvest on farmer's market... I love love love to see how you're starting from scratch in this wonderful place... I may start a food forest on UK soon...already planted some berries before winter... You both are a great inspiration to invent and re-invent life in nature! Thanks for your videos! I cried when I saw the car porch finished, giving you some extra shelter! Nithyanandam
Glad you survived the walk thru the woods. Jake mentioned building a deck as the floor to the Yurt. I hope you're planning to have the deck fully insulated. I've found I lost most of my heat thru the floor rather than the walls or roof of my Yurt that I lived in 2 winters' outside Edmonton AB
little help: build a distilling boiler and make clean water. doesn't have to be huge. if the stream is accesable add a water wheel generator to pump water to your site! could water a garden etc. Jake to keep using buckets carve a neck yoke to maximum strength.
once you clean your cast iron, just take a paper towel or something. your fingers. and use some oil or some cooking grease to give it a light coating, then store. it will keep it in pretty good shape for a long time
You guys need a Berkey water filter. You can make your own drinking water from the stream. It's a couple hundred dollars up front but one filter cartridge does 3000 gallons. They all come with 2. Replacement filters (2) are $80.
Love the way U guys work together! Hindsight but Jake U can put the coals on top of the lodge Dutch oven learned that watching my Dad growing up. It gives the pot some upper heat like if it was in the oven. Ur a stud I COULD NEVER DO WHAT Ur doing. Just add that to Ur arsenal off grid.
Put your cast iron back on the fire, 2/3 full of water and a drop of soap, and bring it back to a boil. That will make it MUCH easier to clean. Then reseason as usual. Love watching your progress!
Rubbing liquid dish soap on the outside of skillets and coffee pots before putting them over the fire makes it easier to clean them later too Also, did you know that you can actually bury that Dutch oven in coals & put coals onto the lid? I think you can bake bread that way, and I know you can cook roasts that way, though that won't work in a vegan diet! Thought you'd like to know.
I found your channel a couple days ago and I am enjoying your content a lot. Nice work! I have always dreamed of doing what you guys are going for and I wish you both the best.
did both of you decide to move off the grid...and left city...wow...thats amazing and decision...i started wstching late now am watching from start.... thats love...u guys have..🥰🥰🥰
Love the B-roll with the music! Nice touch. I found your martial arts videos about a year ago. Then got into permaculture with your videos. I'm in Phoenix. Love the new path! I'll be watching daily.
Jake and Nicole, you two are influencing others to become part of this huge movement of self sustainability that is becoming more popular every year worldwide. Keep up the great work, also wanted to ask how do you manage material waste? I too one day want to be off grid, self sufficient, growing my own food, making everything from scratch. Thank you two for your huge sacrifice and for all your videos. I began following you Jake when you were beginning your garden here in Tempe. I went to a few garden tours of yours. I just recently went to Jays home and spoke to him. As soon as I can, I am going to become a patreon. Thanks again and never give up!
I just realized, That's Jake Mace. He can afford to do whatever he wants and return to his little kingdom in arizona for the winters if he wants to...Go Jake!!!!
I just discovered your show the other day on youtube so i'll be going through all your videos, till im up to the present, lots of hugs from Perth, Downunder.....
Hi there Jake and Nicole, I’ve just recently come across your channel. I was surfing UA-cam and came across your video just after you put up your yurt. I went back to your first vlog and I’m now binge watching your channel. I have subscribed now and am looking forward to seeing more of your videos. A fan from Johannesburg, South Africa.
It is really interesting to see you prepare your meals.....if it were me I would never get the right amount of seasonings put in..ha!!! Thanks for sharing.
Jake, just do a bag of cement into your hole and add water then poke at it with a stick. No need to dirty up a wheelbarrow and a shovel. There's anough moisture in the ground that you may not even need to add the water.
Eating the edible mushrooms, moss, and lichen will be a SUPERFOOD addition to your diet and help acclimate you to the area biophysiologically. Amazing sources of protein, fiber, and healing antioxidants. Awesome!!!
Great video folks! I think you folks need an off road vehicle? I'm guessing you'll be getting one at some point, very useful/necessity living out there
Ok I am all in just subscribed. You guys hav a great start so keep up the good work. Not into vegan diet but there must be some good tasting meals but willing to try vegan dinners but never convert.
Subscribed! Love the concept and the courage! Would love to do something like that and i'll live through you :) Maybe someday will be possible, and you would be the teachers responsible heheh best of luck!
Awesome but u should always have a gun for protection when off grid in case the animals decide to not walk away u can also fire a warning shot be safe and enjoy your journey. I’m trying to watch them from the beginning already watched the current but decided to start at the beginning this is my dream but life had other plans for me
I’m a little late don’t mind me, but maybe it’s because he’s always up against some big trees, but I was not thinking jake was 6’2!! Not gunna lie, I thought he was a lot shorter!

what about a berkey?
Lol, I totally moved my head back when you opened the Dutch oven up🙈 All the steam, my glasses 🙃
Love the B-roll with the music! Nice touch. I found your martial arts videos about a year ago. Then got into permaculture with your videos. I'm in Phoenix. Love the new path! I'll be watching daily.
A water feed from that creek would be very helpful. Lots of easy, how to videos on bringing water closer without power.

If there are wells drilled on your property, couldn't you install an old fashioned hand pump on one of them so you could have water right at hand?
Get some rain gear so you can work when it's raining.

🤣🤣 Cougars and bear 🐻 path.... That makes you feel wonderful .
Eating the edible mushrooms, moss, and lichen will be a SUPERFOOD addition to your diet and help acclimate you to the area biophysiologically. Amazing sources of protein, fiber, and healing antioxidants. Awesome!!!
So you have lions and bears and Martins, but what about black flies, mosquito's and poison Ivy? Is there fish and crayfish in that stream?

Your wife is the best. My wife won't put up with this outdoor stuff.
Just curious, why someone who loves the outdoors would marry someone who doesn't? 🤔
