It’s amazing to see all the changes you have made since you first started. Landing on an island with only what fit in your van and the Uhaul truck that was mostly your yurt would be extremely scary for even a seasoned camper/hiker/explorer or adventure junky. I am extremely blessed to have found your channel and have enjoyed watching your adventures since right before the Covid pandemic of 2020.
I started watching you when you built the bunkie and watched about 20 episodes, and then watched 'starting over'. That's amazing, knowing where you are now and seeing the beginning.
It’s so wonderful that this couple has a supportive community. Nicole may become overwhelmed from time to time with what they about to build together; however, I believe their UA-cam viewers will come through with words of advise and guidance, as well as a reassuring “you’ve got this”.
So excited I got to see the first video....been following but I am now just starting to go back to see how this whole adventure started! Thank you so much for a little view into your world.
Hi jake and nicole god bless you both on your new life and adventure..lots of work but you two can conquer anything. Have been following you since your last year in arizona, my husband and i bought six acres with a 30 yr old tiny house in northern calif. we put in waterpower and a composting toilet.. we were able to use all vast gardening information from you, john kohler and robbie and gary to erect our garden. could not have done it without you jake. thank you also for your beautiful videos on europe i looked forward to them all week, you guys did a supremo job on them. we did spend $300 on a water dowser with 25 yrs experience and a good reputation and she spent half a day on the land and came up with 3 strong areas for water. we used her favorite area and got a gusher! it was worth every penny! again good luck to both of you and know that you are loved!
I'd forgotten this video....it seems like years ago and yet it seems like yesterday. I've followed you both for over a year, before you got Canada and you have achieved so much. Amazing
When I lived in the Pacific Northwest I rigged up a burnt out skill saw blade onto my weed wacker using some grinder adaptors to attach and keep it centered. Cut better than the actual metal weed wacker brush blades and even if you used new saw blades they still work out to less than 1/8 the price. Cut through Scotch broom with 1 1/2" diameter trunk and black berries like butter. After I'd keep the berries mowed down and in 2-3 years the frost uplift would eventually push the plant out were it was easily pulled. Had a large rough patch of land I cleaned up that way, kept it from choking out the native forest.
15:50 Lasagna forest flooring = The Layers of a Forest. Mature forests often have several distinct vertical layers. These include: Forest floor layer - The forest floor is often blanketed with decaying leaves, twigs, fallen trees, animal scat, moss, and other detritus.
New subscriber here. I found your recent video titled 'What we do at night', were you mentioned this video.. so naturally I stopped that video and came to this one. I just want to say good luck and I look forward to seeing the rest of your videos in between these two.
Hi Nicole. I’ve been watching this channel from the beginning. Love it! Please don’t stress out! Do what you can. If you can’t upload as often as you’d like, that’s fine. If they aren’t in order of date, that’s fine as well. Just a suggestion, you can write the date of video shotting at the beginning of each video. I fully understand that the upload date isn’t always the recording date… I hope you and Jake continue sharing your experiences 😊 I’m only reached at this video, looking forward to watching the rest 😊
Thank you for this video, I've been trying to convince my wife to live off-grid as well over there somewhere in BC, and your video answered all those questions without even asking. 👍 From how to get stuff over to those tiny islands, to Finding the property markers, to how to "live" there the first few days / weeks, until you have the basic accommodation in place.😃
"Camping to the extreme." And the AirBnB once a week. Like it. I have been attending and organizing Burning Man regional community events. That feeling when you first get to the location and you get toilet/water/power/food/sleep ready to survive is exciting. Great how you kept that excitement up.
Wishing y'all the best of luck Nicole you have jake so you are lucky and can't wait to see what you guys do with your land. Just stay focused and positive 😊

I admire you so much on behalf of your honesty. Hard to find someone like you. Since you settled in that part of the globe, I wish all the success in your life and be happy always. Just think you have brother in the other side of the globe.thanks
I am gonna LOVE THIS! Thank you for a excellent video! So glad you two are back. You make a very nice couple. Can always find safety in each other. Starting new like you both are is terrifying if never done before. I would be the same, I have not always had an easy life, but I have gotten by. It is going to be so fun and interesting and knowledgeable to watch you both.
Hello from Pennsylvania! I remember when we first went off grid, it seemed like so much kept going wrong! I remember thinking well maybe we shouldn't do this. Is this a sign of bad times to come?! Nonetheless we persevered and it brought my husband an I closer together, we laughed and cried, suffered pain and passion and a deeper love! Worth all the struggles we endured and continue to endure. Summer is coming and that's a tough season as far as heat and humidity and no AC. But I know we will get through it. Anyways, you guys seem cool, happy to connect with like minded folks!
Yikes! I understand your anxiety about things being organized etc. and hope you can ignore anyone’s comments that say, “Thought you were doing this or that”. You’re living your life! Which isn’t a straight predictable line. Being human you’re going to make decisions then new decisions. There’s no one road; you’re creating a new path specific to you. Great good luck to you!
Watched a bunch of your other episodes but not #1. On one of the other episodes I said if I was starting on the west coast I'd either do Vancouver Island or Orcas Island. I thought you were on the mainland (near Vancouver). So glad you're on the island. I ended up in Maine.
I used to watch Jakes garden videos when he was down in Arizona. I figured he left the platform.after the divorce. I was not expecting this plot twist! So happy for you man, you look so happy!
I’m currently starting on episode 5 just wanted to say love this journey so far very cool this is better than Alaskan bush people lol this is real two thumbs up
If the ground is allways wet, maybe you can use some of the tree stumps (of cut trees) as a raised foundation for the Yurt. That way you can make the foundation several fet over the ground and stay dry. Good luck you guys.
I am so glad you posted a video. I was wondering how you both were doing I will keep you both in my prayers so you will be safe and keep going. Taking a break at the bed and breakfast is good for your. Sanity. I am not sure if you believe in God but I will pray for you. I love camping and nature. God Bless you. I cant wait to see what is happening next
Hello from Arizona. Temperature today was 74 in Gilbert. The hummingbirds are out and about. Orange blossoms smell divine. Do they have orange trees in B.C?The irrigation water is bubbling. My peach trees are in bloom. Garden is in. Did I mention the orange blossoms? Solar panels are producing. Life is good in Arizona. Stay warm and dry.
Just found you guys!! I am always thrilled to find vegan or plant based couples/families living out a similar lifestyle. We have a plant-based homestead in Upstate NY and we are hoping to grow almost all of our own food right in the garden! Although we are not quite on your level when it comes to off-gridding 😂 I'm excited to watch you guys embrace your new life on your property and see all that you accomplish! -Jenn
Okay so I have been watching all of the videos and debating doing this myself! Really my only question is how much was the tug boat? You reference it in the next episode as being yours.
love the new series, i cant wait to see what you do for greenhouse, gardens etc! - yep youll need a greenhouse up there to grow all year long! as a lifelong northwesterner there are SOOOOO many edible plants there too! it would be cool if you guys incorporated some of that into your meals in creative ways...anyway dont stress about the uploads etc just take us with you!
lived in bc for 20+ years lots of rain.everything gets damp moldy. lots of bears on vancouver island some of the smaller islands have none not much protection in a tent better have bear spray and a 12 gage would be good to have. had freinds killed by bears. I hope all goes well.i will keep watching
I've been a subscriber for about a year now. I'm now watching your playlists. It's great looking back and seeing how far, and how fast, you've come along. Great work you two! Stay safe and well.💕
We are really enjoying your channel. You guys are brave to take in this channel. Jake, in this video at about 7'50", you're cooking on the outdoor stove and you have a knife in your hand. Did you get it in Spain perhaps... Toledo?
I have never eaten straight vegan before. Definitely a carnivore here in the states, (nothing again vegans) but the food you both cook up looks amazing! Should definitely try sometime, when this pandemic clears up. Watching from "Starting Over...", as I landed on your channel after both of you were dancing in the rain. Looking forward to catching up.

Great videos, boy are you two brave! Re your squatty potty, presumably with the amount of rain expected you will need to cover or weatherproof the plywood to stop it rotting? Guess you will also need some protection against the bears and wolves too, just in case of a dire emergency? Really wish you both well on the massive task that you have both committed to. 🙏👏⛺🔥

That Dunny(Toilet) is a lot of hard work.... One thing to learn in life(I am 84 and this policy has saved me much wasted time) as you two start your journey together is "Learn to work SMARTER Not HARDER". I just discovered your Channel and considering this whole COVID-19 pandemic, I am eager to see (and learn from) your entire journey with living off-grid. Can't wait to watch!
Love this guys, soon as i found your channel im hooked! you two are working towards the dream and kinda living it right now! i will be supporting you guys at least by watching all your videos !
Hey guys, love your videos, how much did you buy your land for? And how was logistics process from US to Canada?? Like insurance, drivers license, credit, all that good stuff, how did you transfer?? can you share your process?
Hi guys liken your channel its fun to watch and well edited, I like what your doing there and I can't wait to see the progress in developing the land, but I'm wondering as a Canadian did u guys get Canadian citizen ship to come to Vancouver island and purchase land? I assume you plan on being there for a extended period of time.
Living the dream, no offense intended, but enjoy it while you're still asleep. I have lived completely off-grid for almost 30 years, I have watched bright-eyed bushy-tailed people strikeout on their own, determined to live the Pioneers life, only to realize why the Pioneers life span was in the mid-forties.
With today's technology, general knowledge of health and wellness, and medicine, I think its safe to say that this lifestyle is far more cushy these days then our ancestors experienced it.
Seriously guys, constantly check each other thoroughly for ticks... damn things will put a wrench in all you do.... get a mirror and check everywhere.....by the way love the videos !!!

JAKE, how did you guys come up with this particular trac of land?
Seriously guys, constantly check each other thoroughly for ticks... damn things will put a wrench in all you do.... get a mirror and check everywhere.....by the way love the videos !!!
Haha good idea, thank you 💜
Good Luck guys.

Great to see this. What made you choose BC? And as Americans you can buy land?
