7:30 Man you just hope that the video helped us in just someway? Damm it helped totally !! This is Platinum tute. Such damm easy and forced me instantly to draw and succeed !! A thousand hard kisses on your head man !!
There is a grass brush you can use to speed up that individual grass process. I know this is a 3 year video, but in case someone is watching today like me! Amazing video, you got a new subscriber!
Dude, your game looks so incredible. I'm honestly in awe. I really hope you get the recognition and everything your team well deserves. It reminds me of an old game I used to play when I was a kid. It was Binary or something like that. You have to control 2 birds or penguins or something on either sides of the screen and navigate through a maze etc. I used to love that game so I'm super excited for yours!
New subscriber, love the tutorial, my art skills are none existent atm, so will be trying to follow this when on computer as am hoping to get a little bit better with making my own assets.
I didn't even search for this, it showed up in the recommendations and omg this video is gold for someone as poorly talented as me xD thank you so much Caecus :D I really hope you could make more tutorials like this for characters and maybe other stuff n.n subbed!

I love your video style. It's so engaging. Thanks for sharing your tips 👍 I make pixel art for my games but some of your tips definitely translate to that.
After the process is done, would you recommend getting these assets in my unity game with an orthographic camera and a parallax effect or with a perspective camera? Thanks, this tutorial is great
your voice is amazing! - i have subscribed just because of that and that alone! could you narrate a book perhaps? - do 1984 by Orwell don't be shy...i think you will be great
I dont know how to make shaders XD. For trees i use a simple Sinus Script that just wiggles the tree parts a little bit over time, i think i mentioned it in Devlog 2 for Mendacium. The grass is just a animation which is played when the player walks over it (but i guess its more optimized with the shader if you know how to make it). Thanks for pointing that out since there are a lot of small things like these, so maybe i will do a tips and tricks video in the future compiling all of these little hacks. :)
I watched all your videos. All are gem. I am beginner in photoshop. It would be good if you prepare another tutorial with step by step guide for drawing this rock and grass. Do you have discord server?
Thanks for the sub! My tip would be to practice shading first, since its kinda the most important part of drawing. Start with spheres and round objects and slowly move on to the more complex shapes with faces. To easily add more detail and complexity to your art assets, combine multiple shapes. For this try to study Hollow Knight art, since i think they really utilized this the most. Every object it that game consists of multiple parts and 99% of these little parts are shaded like round objects. Good luck :)
Amazing tutorial! I have a question tho...I noticed you have a weird Icon next to your layers (RED copy and BLUE copy in minute 6:21), what is that? How can I do that?
Hi Caecus thank you for this informative video your art is great! Can I ask @1:32 not sure what you did here in order to colour over the sketch, ur clearly not painting on the sketch layer it seems that you are using a mask to reveal the colour below the sketch and having the sketch show through, hope that makes sense could you just explain how you are using the mask to colour in the stones? thank you. and hope to see more vids! new sub btw:)
yep you are right i already drew the siluette for the rocks and then i was just painting on the mask to show it because i had some problems when i was recording the video xd. In that step you should just make a new layer, make sure that the sketch layer is on top of it and then just color in the stones. Sorry for the confusion hope this clears it up a little :)
@@TheCaecus1 thank you for explaining that, that's brilliant makes sense :) looking forward to watching ur other dev logs and future vids thank you for shining a light and sharing ur knowledge!
I mean one picture is 2048x2048 which is kinda the standard for many textures in 3d games so its not that expensive on performance. Another thing is that one pic has multiple rocks on it, so its technically loading one texture for like 8 different rocks instead of one per rock. 2D is really nice for performance in general compared to 3D since you dont have many polygons, light calculations and stuff so you can put as many game objects as you want and it still runs fine
Im usually working with 2048x2048 canvas for things like these rocks, since im going to be scaling and reusing them a lot. Keep in mind that one rock itself is not 2048x2048, since i like to have a couple of them in the same canvas, so think about it as 1 rock ~ 500-800px. As for the settings, im using the default ones, so I guess its RGB
Im usually working on a 2048x2048 canvas, but I have multiple assets on it. So think about it like one asset being around from 500x500px to 1000x1000 depending on the level of detail you need.
Im not good at picking colors really so most of the time i work with black, white and gray and then pick the colors later. For this i accidentally tried these 2 brown/yellowish colors and it turned out good so i saved it so that i can reuse it. But yeah, im not putting that much thought into it, i just try some combinations and if it looks good i go with it.
Hello, I export a bunch of assets on one 2048x2048 image, and then in Unity Engine there is an option to just say that there are multiple assets on one image and then do the cutting automatically.
I added the clipping mask on the lines and colored it white to make it more visible. For showing the lines, just put the line layer on top of everything and reduce the opacity. Hope it helps :)

Hey, would you be interested in getting the game translated into Polish? I really love the style of Ascendum! I'd be happy to work with on a project like that :D
Yes that would be great. I planned translations to a couple of languages for Ascendum so i guess we can start from Polish :) . But first i have to make sure that the game is 100% done tho. Fell free to join the TeamCaecus discord server and i will contact you when the game is ready.
Im always using a pic with the size 2048x2048 px, and im putting multiple objects in one and then cutting it in unity. For stones, there are maybe 5-8 Rocks on that pic (so maybe ~400x400 px per rock, but then again i have some that are ~1000x1000) , because i will scale them a lot and they need to still look fine when scaled. For other smaller stuff, you can get away with putting like 50 things there, it just depends on how big the assets are going to be in the game. Hope that helps :)
@@TheCaecus1 yeah that does thanks! I always tended to do things as single objects 512x512 and it just never looked right. I'll be giving this a try next time.
