James Brown - Monterey California 1979

- I found this one-hour video of the Godfather performing in 1979 in Monterey California and just HAD to share it. Also, I was notified that my account had been enabled for uploads longer than 15 minutes and thought I would see just how long of a video I COULD upload. Always testing the limits...
[Video originally came to me in two parts that I had to combine. Thus, you will see a "jump" at about the 26 1/2 minute mark]
Note: In NO WAY do I intend to infringe upon anyone's copyright of this video. It is my firm belief that "sharing" - i.e., letting someone VIEW my own content - does NOT infringe upon any copyright. Sharing it via a link to DOWNLOAD it clearly WOULD violate copyright.
Thus, I believe I am in the clear. UA-cam may not agree and may remove it. If they do, I probably won't challenge it and just not "skirt the line" on future uploads. But I AM the type of person who will push the limits. I NEVER intend to do anything illegal, but ... if there is a question...
I tend to push on until there is a definitive answer...
[NOTE: The "Body Heat" DVD - released in 1989 - is the exact same thing as the VHS tape entitled "The Lost James Brown Tapes." In fact, the company that released this DVD didn't even bother to re-do the titles sequence--it still reads "Lost James Brown Tapes." The good news is that, even though the picture quality is only marginally improved from the VHS version, the sound quality is markedly better. AND, I'm not sure whether THIS video came from the VHS or DVD version.]
You can purchase the DVD version "Body Heat" at AMAZON, here: www.amazon.com/...

this concert was filmed at the Doubletree Hotel in Monterey Ca, in one of the conference rooms... I was standing near the stage just to the right... after the show as James was heading to the car that was taking him to the airport, he walked up to me and my friends and smiled, shook our hands and told us to stay in school and don't do drugs... I know things changed later in his life as far as drug use... but he was one of the reasons I didn't use or ever try drugs.. he was very anti-drugs when I was a child... James was a huge influence on many people back in the day... Now people make fun of him and focus on the negative aspects of his later life.... but there was a time when there was NO ONE bigger in black entertainment... He was Michael Jackson before Michael Jackson , he was Prince before Prince, or Kanye, or Drake , or Biggie or Tupac etc.. he was all those rolled into one... believe it...
+R Jackson I agree
You had to be around at the time to really know. I'm 61.
That,s great ! The music is what it,s all about . Drugs, wtf , at the end of he day have you ever listened to any decent music these days ? the soul has gone . Health and safety put a stop to that. In our search for longevity we miss the moment which is all it comes down to at the end of the day . You will never forget that concert for example . I'm only jelous ! Would have loved to have seen the Godfather of funk!
R Jackson uggfht

R Jackson I can only believe you when I see the energy he releases in his songs and concerts. You're so lucky you could shake hands with him, the king of soul, my king of music!

Saw JB perform on or about his 70th birthday at the Baker Ballroom in Denville NJ. it was the 70 Years of Funk tour. Band was tight - James was phenomenal. He was on stage for 3 hours and the crowd was on it feet the whole time. One of the best high energy shows I've ever seen.

A true American Original, When ever I felt down, I would listen to James Brown and I be gettin' on the good foot.
Un régal que du bonheur un plaisir à regarder manifique il manque un vrai de vrai sur scène féerique 👏👌🎩chapeau merci James brown il vie la musique ❤️🤩
WOW! That was awesome! Thanks for sharing. He is truly the most imitated man in show business.....Michael, Prince, Usher........
James is 46 years old here! --- and at the peak of his powers. I had the great fortune to see him perform live four times in my life, twice in enormous venues, once in a tiny intimate club near Detroit, and once only a month before he passed, as it turned out. Each and every time, no matter the outward circumstances, he gave us in the audience every ounce of energy and inspiration he had. Pure spirit and soul like his the world has rarely seen in any field of endeavor. Besides his status as a musical Godfather, a real leader and real man. Respect forever.
Read and knew his Bible. He was at heart a Good Old Southern boy. To come out of what he did . He did well. We all make mistakes, but he did a lot of good. Chadwick RIP did a good job playing him.
me to in the frat house on johns road in aug.as guest of Peaches and Herb sitting outside at the window only a kid but i fell in love with miss Peaches. it was all so deff. impressive

Thank for uploading this. I love James Brown. If I'm feeling down, I listen to him and in thirty seconds, I'm smiling.
C est vrai…c est mon cas et il le remonte le miral❤❤❤❤❤inégalable on t aime 💕
Must have been one of his best concerts ! I could enjoy it already in the 80`s on VHS ..
I have watched it many times ....
JAMES BROWN THE GREATEST MUSIC ARRANGER OF ALLL TIMES
I've never heard that term 🎶 arranger... I'm a huge music fan 🤣 to the point of obsession but not knowing the language makes me wonder should I go to college at age 42? I love learning but I'm fiercely independent in my approach towards knowledge.... Good thing? Nope but gives me a philosophical pride n .... Prison at times..... No woman is an island, right?
Thx male buddy that invented redwood bits..... I love the redwoods of california too.... Universal symbol of connection
I so happy that I was able to see him perform in 1998 in Germany. That was one of the best concerts of my whole life...
Thank you James, i feel proud, i'm black.....
you have a jealous mean dark spot where your heart should be
I'm white and I'm proud I learned of James Browns music at a young teenager and I have loved him ever since I first heard his music and videos.
Black, white, don't matter. The man thrills everyone
This is absolutely one of the best shows by James ,according me ! I recorded it from TV to VHS in the 80-s ,then converted it to DVD . I still enjoy it as the first time !! I have to jump up every time i`m watching and dance !! I´M white ,woman, live in Europa and a HUGE fan since 1966 !
It's great to hear him scatting at around 29:30 on Sex Machine. I'd never heard him scat before.
I could hear why he didn't do it much.
Listen to James Brown a Man Understands. Best scat solo and love when he did it live
My first concert was when my parents took me to see James Brown at the Apollo, my father had to put me on his shoulders so I could see because everybody was standing up and dancing.
Just curious what year was that? James Brown would tear the Apollo down every time he played there! That was in my opinion the best place to catch him! He loved that place to death!! The lines would be all the way around the corner and back to the front!! The baddest cat ever for soul music I mean real soul music!!!
It was 69 or 70. Jackson 5 also performed that night, in fact several legendary acts performed but I only remember James Brown and the Jackson 5.
Rest in Peace! You are missed and still loved!
for sure, RIP, a man that showed peps what class looks like
i wanna talk Myle Cyruss into doing some of Jamess song she was straining hard trying to do some zepplin but she has the skills drive and voice just the right pitch and inflection to own something like i feel good then right into mommas got a brand new bag while shaken it in some tight pink or red hot pants and bring some joy back to the world in these sad stressful times .like when i first heard Stachmo sing its a Wonderful World. we were playing ball behind william robinson school, everybody had peps in johnsons gold mine, viet nam ,the civil rights movement and MLK were catching hell but handeling it in his cool as a cucumber unshakable way. under fire ,after that low life hit him in the head with that fucking bolder in Mongomery that song came on and the world around me stopped to listen nobody moved until way after the last note played and ever man jack out there smiled at each other cause they had all taken the some trip togeather in that beautiful song.i will never forget that few moments. so what do you think?i would give it an hour before the world was dancing and smileing to this little young song bird singing the legendary JB s hits and dont forget the dunt dunt dunt da da da daa .i wonder if she could do the moves .hay ,later sorry i went long
I remember watching an interview where Michael Jackson said he was outraged that the cameraman was always so zoomed up on James Brown and never showed his legs, MJ wanted to see the steps so he could copy the dance moves. James was a huge influence for Michael's stage persona.
I LIKE THIS ERA OF BRO JAMES.........
OF COURSE MY DAD LIKE THE EARLIER VERSION OF GODFATHER.....,.....THEIR THE SAME AGE GROUP.....
so any way james is running from the cops right in north augusta and they set up a safe area so they could shoot out his tires as he blew thru there were no shots and when the news crew interviewed the officer asking why he did not shoot he told them flat out that he was not going to be the cop that accidently shot James Brown.now that..is respect
I've seen JB several times, he came to Wilmington De and while he was on stage doing his famous gallop a big thunder came out of nowhere, it started raining buckets of rain, we stood their soaked until JB stopped singing.
I was at this show in Monterey California in 1979 the Godfather of Soul -

The section from 18 to 29 minutes (aprox) it's absolutely awesome!!!
The beat change on the 2nd song (bodyheat) is mind-numbingly perfect. This dude is unequivocally a genius. The way he is able to bring all these sounds together and improvise while dancing too!? He deserves the same musical respect as old European composers like Chopin, liszt, debussy, and all them. Fr
sensational jb performer real tight
No matter what happens, don't ever let this video go away from UA-cam. Thanks. :)
garder cette video magnifique sur UA-cam ; Merci quel plaisir
NOBODY ever did it any better than THE GODFATHER !

A musical treasure, James Brown, thanks so much for posting this. Great concert, in Santa Cruz, CA (not Monterey), at Coconut Ballroom, right on the boardwalk, I was there! Jimmy Nolan on guitar and Maceo on saxes, two drummers at all times. James Brown concerts were something else, the crowd was always so diverse, everyone just there for the funk, and James Brown and super band always delivered.
this was a real treat. He is my all time favorite performer. Thanks.
R.I.P James Brown - WHAT A FUCKING LOSS
La energia de mr. Brown es de las mas positivas elevadas e inagotables que conozco, desborda brillo del mejor, un lujo, gracias por el video, saludos!!
