Saw JB perform on or about his 70th birthday at the Baker Ballroom in Denville NJ. it was the 70 Years of Funk tour. Band was tight - James was phenomenal. He was on stage for 3 hours and the crowd was on it feet the whole time. One of the best high energy shows I've ever seen.

this concert was filmed at the Doubletree Hotel in Monterey Ca, in one of the conference rooms... I was standing near the stage just to the right... after the show as James was heading to the car that was taking him to the airport, he walked up to me and my friends and smiled, shook our hands and told us to stay in school and don't do drugs... I know things changed later in his life as far as drug use... but he was one of the reasons I didn't use or ever try drugs.. he was very anti-drugs when I was a child... James was a huge influence on many people back in the day... Now people make fun of him and focus on the negative aspects of his later life.... but there was a time when there was NO ONE bigger in black entertainment... He was Michael Jackson before Michael Jackson , he was Prince before Prince, or Kanye, or Drake , or Biggie or Tupac etc.. he was all those rolled into one... believe it...

That,s great ! The music is what it,s all about . Drugs, wtf , at the end of he day have you ever listened to any decent music these days ? the soul has gone . Health and safety put a stop to that. In our search for longevity we miss the moment which is all it comes down to at the end of the day . You will never forget that concert for example . I'm only jelous ! Would have loved to have seen the Godfather of funk!

James is 46 years old here! --- and at the peak of his powers. I had the great fortune to see him perform live four times in my life, twice in enormous venues, once in a tiny intimate club near Detroit, and once only a month before he passed, as it turned out. Each and every time, no matter the outward circumstances, he gave us in the audience every ounce of energy and inspiration he had. Pure spirit and soul like his the world has rarely seen in any field of endeavor. Besides his status as a musical Godfather, a real leader and real man. Respect forever.

The beat change on the 2nd song (bodyheat) is mind-numbingly perfect. This dude is unequivocally a genius. The way he is able to bring all these sounds together and improvise while dancing too!? He deserves the same musical respect as old European composers like Chopin, liszt, debussy, and all them. Fr

right, he never did something twice, never routine, that's why he is so unic, nyterpfan; his film clip, i saw until it 1 years ago when everything came slowly to the musicpeople; he play 53 jears long ; c'est un genie inoubliable, je suis Belge et avec JB = jacques brel je sais ...les vrai genies il y en a si peu... JB était un des plus grand et il le restera .. ainssi que notre regrété Toots Tielemans....

i wanna talk Myle Cyruss into doing some of Jamess song she was straining hard trying to do some zepplin but she has the skills drive and voice just the right pitch and inflection to own something like i feel good then right into mommas got a brand new bag while shaken it in some tight pink or red hot pants and bring some joy back to the world in these sad stressful times .like when i first heard Stachmo sing its a Wonderful World. we were playing ball behind william robinson school, everybody had peps in johnsons gold mine, viet nam ,the civil rights movement and MLK were catching hell but handeling it in his cool as a cucumber unshakable way. under fire ,after that low life hit him in the head with that fucking bolder in Mongomery that song came on and the world around me stopped to listen nobody moved until way after the last note played and ever man jack out there smiled at each other cause they had all taken the some trip togeather in that beautiful song.i will never forget that few moments. so what do you think?i would give it an hour before the world was dancing and smileing to this little young song bird singing the legendary JB s hits and dont forget the dunt dunt dunt da da da daa .i wonder if she could do the moves .hay ,later sorry i went long

Brown was simply one of a kind. His brand of "funk" was impossible to not react to. The repititious, driving, off-beat rhythms were great.

he will always be one of a kind ( as an artist onstage and in studio)
now i see how immportant his legacy is not only for his recordings but also for his performance as a frontman who's always in charge.

Just curious what year was that? James Brown would tear the Apollo down every time he played there! That was in my opinion the best place to catch him! He loved that place to death!! The lines would be all the way around the corner and back to the front!! The baddest cat ever for soul music I mean real soul music!!!

I bought this VHS back in the late ‘90s from Amoeba Records on Telegraph in Berkeley. Sure enough, it quickly became one of my Dad’s tapes lol. But my best memory of it is around 2002 me and my friend took it across the street to the neighbors house where he was having a party, Mom and Dad were there, a lot of other couples, along with young people our age, and we were all in there partying off “Bodyheat”, “Eyesight”, “Sex Machine” and everything off this tape. That was a truly good night, and a lot of those people there are no longer here or in Ill health, but it was good to be there with them and JB on that night.
