Ain't I funky now nothing like James Brown and the JBs
Don’t forget Mr. Byrd too, he brings that funk and soul!
May you rest in peace this my boy right here
Frist got hooked in 1974. I was checking out my Dad's albums with the headphones on. The full album. Once I heard the bridge at 1:21 I was mesmerized and never looked back on the funk of James Brown. I was 10 years old. The funk of JB had me hypnotized and still does. This was the first James Brown album I ever heard! Timeless!!
Godfather of soul the real deal now ain’t it good to you R I P
Best Concert I also ever saw damn that's why they call him The Hardest working Man in Show Business
All through the 60s & 70s no matter what club, dance hall, cabaret, wherever we were we had to get on the dance floor or make a dance floor when we heard the JB Beat....
You got that right 🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🎶🎷
James Brown’s music kept the black community together and he gave us an understanding what being black truly was..a gift from God! Stay black!
MY FAVORITE BAND UNTOUCHABLE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Been looking for this tune for 40 years. Last listened to it in Cameroon when I was a teenager. Thank you for featuring it here. Just sensational and unique.
I love that today.
I've had this ALBUM when it came out in 1971 then the CD, only wish their was a video of this Masterpiece of Classic Funk...
Thats what I am asking around about if there was a video does anyone know?
One of my favorite live albums of Mr Dynamite
Saudades desse tempo...... muito bom......
Mobile Jab! Drums sounding so clean and crisp. Bass sounding better too. This is the ultimate Funk. JB in top form.
GFOS.
Lots of comments over the years regarding the mix of this release, so I decided to play around with it 👍
Best concert I ever saw... Thankyou God Father ❤️
do you know if there was a recording of this show?
I meant to ask if there was a video recording of this show, sorry.
Not that I know of.
I've been a James Brown impersonator for the past 40 years and I can recite the dialogue from this performance verbatim
Right down to the tonal inflection the screams and the grunts
@@robertmaybine2961 What the hell is Fred Wesley saying at 2:00 "You know we gotta take it on the ?????" 😁
@@SoulOnTopJB the line goes we better take it on the lamb meaning be on the lookout for 5-0 because back in the day everybody on the road was using heavy and you had to stay a little high to do all of those one-nighters across the country so James decided to add that as part of his act and talk to the brothers one-on-one and introduce the audience to each individual band member telling them where they all came from even though in the original recording mr. Brown would say y'all got to be careful about those lights running around and he would say yo man I don't have to take it on the lam yo man I ain't got no dust I ain't got no dust and then he would say oh here they come and guess what fellas I'm gone and that would be the end of the song
But you also know that the original studio recording was 19 minutes long and that's where he developed that whole entire skit and it was showcased on that particular show December 24th 1971 it was also a historical recording because it was the first time that his MC Danny Ray was ever recorded during an introduction of a live show prior to that Maceo Parker Mister Browns lead alto saxophone player was also his announcer for two years before being inducted into the army and prior to that from the mid-fifties to the 1960s it was a gentleman by the name of Fats Gonder
@@robertmaybine2961 I thought it was "Lam", which is a term I'm not familiar, just assumed he had to be saying something else, because "take it to the lam (sheep!!!!) makes little sense 😄 Wasn't Nat Jones also his MC for a period, I know Danny Ray was given his opportunity due to a no-show of this regular MC at the time.
1. Do You hear that drum ? , that is James brown 2. Do you hear that rhythmic funky guitar ? that is James Brown ,3 . Then last but not least do your hear that fantastic bass line ? : that is also JamesBrown !!!!!!!!!
you don't know history: On James Brown's track "Escape-ism" (Live), the bassist is William "Bootsy" Collins. Bootsy Collins was a prominent member of James Brown's band, The J.B.'s, during the early 1970s and played a significant role in shaping the funk sound of the era.
2.On James Brown's track "Escape-ism" (Live), the guitarist is Catfish Collins, the brother of Bootsy Collins. Catfish Collins, along with his brother Bootsy, was a key member of The J.B.'s, James Brown's backing band, and contributed significantly to the distinctive funk sound of the group.
Don’t forget the Horn Section
I stop going to school when I heard james brown lol its the truth. Mom said if I could learn in school like I no all the james brown songs.
Bad to the bone .nothing will ever touch it or hurt ever ever..
A Master Class in Pure Phunkie Toe Jam Stankie Phunk!!
Just bought this album on vinyl and it sounds even better on a hifi stereo system. Can literally feel the drums pounding in my chest.
Sim. No vinil é mais estéreo e com qualidade.
@@geraldo6249 On Vinyl the drums and bass aren't as prominent as this upload.
Wax always sounds great '! Add an equalizer and tailor the sound and you got something special!
@@williamparker3328 Vinyl shouldn't need EQ'ing, that should be done during the mix.
@@SoulOnTopJB NOT always true. It all depends on how you like your sound. I tailor mine around the highs and the lows and the midrange. SO your taste is different from mine but it doesn't matter how it was recorded because everyone wasn't a good sound engineer.
my inspiration, from the beginning ✨🎶🤗. Heaven to your Angel soul, beloved James BROWN 🪽😇🙏..
I’ve been doin it for at least 40 , I currently front his last funky drummer Mousey Thompson’s band , and this is an absolute classic ! Thanks so much !

My all time Favourite….I’ve been looking for a video of this performance and no luck….
Still no luck finding a video?
@@rightnow1956 no luck. I will have to imagine what it would have been like.
I used to think that almost everything was here on UA-cam but disappointingly I found that isn't so. I think we both might have better luck contacting perhaps James Brown fan clubs or even his estate in getting footage or links and access to such
Don’t think there is a video, only a recorded live performance.
This is BAAADDDD ASSS

Un super show! Impecable! En su mejor momento!
I hope that a deluxe box set of this will be released. Or, even better, the complete recordings from the third Apollo show.
That would be great!
Hopefully they will do that like they did The Live At Home in Agusta G.A. On that one they did LOWDOWN POPCORN AND THEY TORE THE BUILDING DOWN WITH THAT.
No hubo ni habra nunca nada como James Brown y sus JB's. Por siempre señor James Brown, este show es uno de sus mejores perfomance en su mejor momento para mi.

Oh shit. The last great JB band in full session. Some might find this a bit self-indulgent but not me. Can we do it? Right about now.... HIT ME
Puro soul não tem outro no mundo como o James 🎩🎼🎶🎵🌹🇧🇷
You're damn right!!!
Best recording, Revolution of the mind. Band with Jabo was as tight as ever!!Jabo had the best sounding snare in my opinion. Machine like on the hi- hat! 😎
I have to disagree with you completely. The album had a horrible mix, Mr. Brown was too upfront the band was too far back and the snare drum had a very tinny sound. If you find that WNEW special they did on the Apollo in 1971 where he does parts of IT’S A NEW DAY and HOT PANTS from the same series of shows that week, you would see how the album really should’ve sounded. Or listen to the alternate live HOT PANTS from the same week. You can look it up as HOT PANTS FINALE. Much better mix than the original live album. Also on the album JAMES BROWN BEST OF THE APOLLO 50TH ANNIVERSARY, the mixes on SEX MACHINE, SOUL POWER and GET INVOLVED from REVOLUTION OF THE MIND are so superior. And finally if you can get a copy of the album that was actually mixed by CAPITAL RECORDS, the mix is also superior. Personally I’m waiting for them to put out a 50th anniversary version. First of all they need to put the songs in the correct order. ESCAPEISM was performed before Star Time. That’s why you hear him saying that that you gonna get SEX MACHINE. Because according to the album SEX MACHINE was the third song in ESCAPISM was the fourth song. Hopefully there are some songs that were in the show that didn’t make it to the album. And of course the worst thing they have to fix is getting rid of the title MAKE IT FUNKY. That entire song was just ESCAPISM. James and the record company should be ashamed of themselves for putting that on the album because that was the current hit out at the time making people think it’s actually performed!! I remember buying the album when I was 15 and being so pissed off when I found out it was a rip off but then the complete ESCAPISM was so good I got over it quickly.
@@PaulDA2000 I want this Escapism /Make it funky in its best sound engineered/mix possible.
@@blaquenguni9249 Yes but you can take the MAKE IT FUNKY off there. They only put that title on the song title because that was the hit record at the time REVOLUTION OF THE MIND came out. I remember being 15 years old on the album came out when I got home I was so pissed, I said I thought they had a nerve to put MAKE OT FUNKY as a song title when the entire thing was ESCAPISM! What they need to do is put out a 50th anniversary and put the songs in the right order. That long version of ESCAPISM was performed at the beginning of the concert before the star time set which began with IT’S A NEW DAY. It was so confusing because in ESCAPISM he says “ all the shows coming you’re gonna get SEX MACHINE….”. And I was saying to myself why would he say that when he already sang it before this song? And I’m sure there are a few other songs he performed there that they didn’t include on the album.
@@blaquenguni9249 This right here is the BEST mix of this performance.
@@PaulDA2000 Your opinion is respected, but rejected.
Ain't it good to ya? Can I get down and take it on the lam!
Trop fort... "le maitre"

Will we ever get a remastered version of this entire album.
With everything cranked up.
I love that you made those drums hit more crisp and amped up the base, but I'd love for someone like DJ Quik or Dr Dre or that other guy who used to sound engineer Whoodini in the 80s to play around with this, using both their vast knowledge of analogue and digital equipment
The best!!!!🎵🎶🎼🎼🎤🎧🎷🎺🎶🎙🤎🤎
OK now don’t get a big head! They need to hire you when they remix this live at the Apollo volume three for the release! Because if you can do what you did with the equipment you have imagined what you can do with actual studio equipment? This is the best remix of revolution of mine I’ve heard yet. The drums are absolutely on the money much heavier than on the original! I don’t know how you do it but keep on doing it!
Brown vc é e sempre será o melhor, influenciou a musicalidade de todo o mundo, com o melhor ritmo.
👌👍
You are right on point. Imagine if there never was a JAMES BROWN? MUSIC WOULD NEVER HAD BEEN FUNKEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
New New Super Heavy Funk

Nice new EQ!
Thanks Mr McBride, the 50th anniversary mix that UMG decided not to do 🤨
This was one of the most sampled jb live albums in hip hop. The whole album is hiphop samplers holy grail. Too bad there isnt footage from that tour though many low fi audio and later performance show clips exist. Just not in entirely. Black shows werent always filmed in america unless it was a tv broadcast or in another country.
The Live in Zaire performance has never been released in full either by Sony, even though they gave in HD with the best sound engineering of any James Brown live recording
@Phil Silverman yep. I saw its a new day and hot pants.some want to see rivers. I have a pic of jb in 69 . I showed it to yamma and Deanna. I take it away sometimes.

Any chance they will one day (soon?) release ALL the complete JB shows from the Apollo 1971, in a cd/LP box set, like they did with the Fillmore West Aretha Franklin Fillmore West 1971 live shows ? Or like they did multiple times with Miles Davis’ album projects and shows for example.
Doubt it, the 30th anniversary which would be perfect timing for any deluxe set has come and go, it's also a question do the tapes still exists.
Do you know which company has them ? Does James Brown still have an active influential, powerful JB music champion in the music biz, that could push to make this happen (should indeed, the tapes still exist) ? Maybe it would have to take a successful biopic similar to the Elvis or Queen biopics, or even a James Brown hologram touring show, turning on younger generations to JB, to make things happen eventually ? But JB never had that level of mainstream pop appeal in the first place that Elvis, Abba or Michael Jackson had, I’m afraid…
I know Elvis fans started online groups to champion a release of Elvis’ concert footage outtakes w/ audio elements of the early 70’s, and looks like they’re getting their way… The Elvis movie director announced it will happen. while a cd/bluray box set “On Tour” (1972) has also already been released in 2023, following the biopic of 2022.

@@SoulOnTopJB That was 1970 when Jimmy Nolan left, not 1972. Because “revolution of the mind” was recorded in 1971.

James Brown's band is the badest band that created funk beats.
Sho nuff, still listening.
Simplesmente o Malhor do soul !!!!!!!
1971, correct?
Just started to listen to it and I can already tell the drums are much more powerful! I do wish though that you had changed the title, because this is really one long version of ESCAPISM. He only put MAKE IT FUNKY on the list of song titles because it was his current hit when this came out. But the song itself wasn’t even out when this was recorded and it’s not on the album. I remember buying this in 1971 at 15 years old and being pissed as hell when I got home and saw the deception of listing MAKE IT FUNKY! Yes they chant make it funky a few times but the music is from ESCAPISM. I would also guess that MAKE IT FUNKY from the chanting he did here. As a matter of fact it follows the complete take of ESCAPISM pretty closely, that was released on the revised HOT PANTS CD. I love what I’m hearing so far but let me listen to the whole thing a couple of times and then I’ll comment on it a little later.
😁How did I forget that, you've mentioned it so many times 😄
@@SoulOnTopJB Yes I know I’ve mentioned it many times. I wasn’t mentioning it for you or others that already know but there are many James Brown fans that don’t even realize that. I find it very fascinating that Mr. Brown and the record company would go out of their way to deceive people to think the current record was on there LOL!
@@PaulDA2000 They knew all about you, that's why they did it 😄
@@SoulOnTopJB Well, I’m flattered if they knew about me but I was just 15 years old at the time 😂. I mean I didn’t really shocked me that much because on the previous album HOT PANTS, boldly written it said “Contains the original hit single”. Of course it was not the original hit single it was a completely different remake.
Bro you've written this same bitchin and moaning comment on every version of this song on UA-cam.
Goodness gracious

Always loved Sinclair Pinckney on sax, preferred him to Maceo.
I loved 1972 the Jbs were funky. I think JB relied to much on Maceo and never gave anyone else a chance apart from Fred.
I love Jimmy Parker on Blues & Pants, would have preferred to hear him continuing rather than Fred Wesley coming in ua-cam.com/video/fs-xPJ-jb9Y/v-deo.html
