This is Amtrak's newest train. Well, the train itself isn't that new. But for the next few hours, we'll be the first riders of the inaugural second train from Alexandria, Va to Roanoke, Va via the Amtrak Northeast Regional.

The new route is an additional train from DC to Roanoke that will make roundtrip stops in Alexandria, Manassas, Culpeper, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg.

Since Amtrak recently added a southbound morning train to Roanoke, we are considering taking an overnight trip.
It's such an easy trip to make too!

How was the trip? Im looking at taking one myself next month and was wondering what to expect.
I rode Amtrak from Richmond, VA to Roanoke, VA. We had to ride 2 hours to Alexandria, had a 4 hour layover in Alexandria and then another 4 and a half hour ride to Roanoke. People think I am crazy for doing that. I loved it and I am going to do it again.
We get so much work done that we couldn't do in the car or even on a plane. It really is underrated travel. Alexandria is not a bad place to have a layover. Some good restaurants right there by the station. We rode from Norfolk to Boston and loved it

You'll have to do some train travel when you come up to Canada. I live about 10mins from a train station so I can definitely help you out. The Toronto/ Montreal/ Ottawa loop by train would be amazing!

This is a beautiful area!! I've done some train trips here in Ontario, Canada - but never in the US.
We've been slowly planning our way for some Canada traveling. So gorgeous up that way
I live in Alexandria now and I've gotta say it quickly became my favorite city. I also do love taking Amtrak around. Way better than an airplane.
I love Alexandria in the fall. Especially close to Halloween when all the houses on Captain's Row are decorated
@@TheDetourDuo have you done a video about how easy it is to bike around Alexandria? Even if you do not have a bike of your own with having Capital Bike Shares here now it makes it very easy if you are visiting.
We didn't this time only because the city wanted us to highlight the free buses. Actually, we've never done bikes. We've always opted for scooters. Got to do that next time
