My very first train ride was from LaPlatta, Mo to Chicago in 1963 with my younger sister. Family tipped the car attendant to keep an eye on us. Thus began over 60 years of wonderful train travel. I will be on the Southwest Chief in October from LA to Chicago. Great video and commentary.
Love your content! Good job!! I've been riding trains since the '50's & have been on this same route when ATSF had The Super Chief & The El Capitan running between L.A. & Chicago. Many will agree that once they've experienced an overnight train trip in a room, they're hooked. It costs more, but it makes the journey more enjoyable. Coach is great for day travel but sharing an open space with 70 other people overnight can be a challenge. If you plan on getting a Deluxe Bedroom, try and avoid Room A (the room in your video) which offers the least space in Amtrak's Superliner Sleeper cars. Although you can make reservations online, Amtrak's system will arbitrarily place people wherever there's available space in cars. I always phone their 1-800 to make reservations so that I may choose the room(s) I want. There can be a wait while on hold, but it's worth the trouble. You can make reservations up to 11 months in advance.
Lovely video. I really enjoyed it. It really gives you that sense of slowing down and enjoying the ride. And the food! And I don't know if you mentioned it, but the ride in an Amtrak Roomette is amazingly quiet. Much quieter than a plane, or even a car on most of our chewed-up interstate highways.
Thank you for your video! Great way to see the country and not worry about flight cancellations. We are taking our 10-year-old granddaughter from Chicago to Newton, Kansas shortly.
Great video. It does my heart good to see a Father and Daughter Havin so much Fun. Your Video inspires me to travel with my Daughter and Grands in the not too distant future . The Food and the Amenities were outside. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO 😊
TG USA - Very nice video. Thanks for sharing. I will be doing the exact route later today and wanted to check out any new perspectives. Glad to see you and your daughter had a great time as well as taking advantage of the first class options. Happy railing.
I did the opposite journey from Chicago to LA a few years ago. It was my first overnight long-distance Amtrak trip. Your video brought bac many fond memories of this epic train experience - the Dining Car & Observation Cars truely make it unique. It is a great way to see America & meet new friends. I have had friends who did it in Coach (not my ideal way to travel over such a long journey). I was fortunate to have a bedroom - more expensive than a Roomette but you do get a lot more room plus your own ensuite.. Thank you for sharing.
I been on the Vermonter and Downeaster Train and Cape Cod Train and Northeast Corridor to NYC and Metro North out of Conn as u can see I am a big train person.
cool video sadly I won't be taking it from Los Angles lol as I am from Boston Mass Area so I be taking the Lake Shore Limited Train from South Station to Chicago where my family lives
I got about 7-8 hours of sleep on the train. The first night was the best because it was my first time and I felt like I was rocked to sleep like a baby. My favorite meal was simply the cheeseburger. I think it's because I had a horrible cheeseburger from the previous year from the cafe.

Great video! Your daughter's infectious smile is proof you guys had a blast. Thanks for sharing it.
Doing this again in a few weeks. Never gets old. It's kind of like *therapy* for me! 😆

Great video and narration. When did you and your daughter make this trip?
This was back in March of this year.
Curious. Cost for your trip? I have trouble figuring out amtrak prices for 2
I got the roomette on sale around or after Christmas. It was about $800 IIRC.
How many hours of uninterrupted sleep did you get on this train? What was your favorite meal on this train?
I got about 7-8 hours of sleep on the train. The first night was the best because it was my first time and I felt like I was rocked to sleep like a baby.
