    That error 07 is the HDD timing out. Could be a bad hard drive, bad/loose IDE cable, or something else. Replacing the HDD on these isn't as simple as replacing it. There is an encrypted key that ties the drive to the motherboard. You'd have to install a modchip, or extract the key and format a new drive with that key. You can extract the key with a Raspberry Pi among other methods.
    That drive is on its last life, which explains the noise you're hearing.

    Tip for clearing out vias: Try 3d printer nozzle cleaning needles. They come as small as 0.2mm diameter so should be able to clear out most vias if needed. You can also try acuupuncture needles as they come in extremely fine diameters.

    The beeping noise definitely sounds like the hard drive platters were stuck or the drive was otherwise not spinning up correctly, and that 100% tallies up with the error you got after the console first turned on. It might be that nudging the cable was enough to make it seat properly and run the drive correctly, or it might be that the drive managed to free itself - hard to say, but I wouldn't entirely trust it.

    @WillThePlank 10 місяців тому +7

    I had one of those Seagate hard drives die so badly in an OG Xbox it actually burnt out one of the chips on the drives main board!
    I believe as others have said that the platter wasn’t spinning hence the beeping noise, you need to either soft mod this ASAP and dump the EEPROM and maybe even zero out the drive key (as drives are tied to the main board) or fit a mod chip and change out the hard drive.
    Lots of resources on the OG Xbox Facebook group as to what your next step in saving this console should be :)

    I would say those two vias at the edge of the board close to the ones you fixed are clearly rotten too, and the beeping sound probably comes from the hard drive that is likely one foot in the grave. sad part about these leaking capacitors is that the electrolyte just gonna keep corroding and eating traces away because it absorbs into the PCB itself, you would need quite a bit of work to get rid of it completely

    The OG Xbox had so many issues. I got 3 replacements before I got one that worked and can personally say that Sonic Riders was my most played game on the console.

    I like these more in-depth trouble shooting videos, good stuff. I know business wise it makes no sense to spend this much time on something - but hopefully the decline in UA-cam ad revenue still leaves you ahead.

    I have found that when testing a power supply sometimes they show on a meter that there is voltage but under a load they will drop out and not work. If you go to a welding supply store you will find that they have a small drill bit twist finger drill that is ultra tiny and would have been a great tool for drilling through that bad connection so that you could have soldered it with fresh solder.

    Simpson H&R definitely a classic, funny enough my OG Xbox quit working on me back in middle school. If I sent it in to you now I know for a fact I have Def jam Fight for NY stuck in side of it 😂

    A really nice piece for a collection. I know how much effort it takes to find faulty vias and broken traces so the least I can say is OUTSTANDING WORK!!!! :)

    Love these OG Xboxes that are basically a pc. Now do a XBMC install! That was revolution.
