Wonderful video. I decided to try out the Gillette Wilkinson Sword blade once again after watching this. I previously used this blade with my plastic Gillette DE razor. Way before shaving became a hobby. Hated shaving. But I paired this blade with my Edwin Jagger DE89 and has an awesome shave. BBS with only 2.5 passes. Super sharp blade and pretty smooth.
A wonderful tribute to Mr Franke, Kev. I'm glad you featured the Proraso red aftershave.I had no idea it became available finally! I hope it's on Amazon. Very nice custom bowl. Also, an ideal way to support an independent potter. Thank you for all this Kev. You not only feature shave gear, and techniques, You are socially conscience by remembering a fallen colleague. This is an affirmation of exactly how the wet shaving community is supportive, and nurturing toward everyone.
Cheers Alex. The red Proraso aftershave has been out for a couple of months. I think Amazon will carry it soon, it's great stuff and smells awesome but doesn't hang around long enough! I like the custom bowl, a one off and great to support a small family run business. Sad news about Rob Franke...😔
New sub. Entered the world of Wet shaving last month and for the first time ever I really enjoy shaving. For some reason I have also been enjoying watching total strangers shave. I have been learning a lot from you and others. Thank you!
Hi Steve. Welcome to the wonderful world of the wet shaver! Some people think it's weird watching other shave! Lol! Good to hear you're enjoying shaving this way. All the best. Kevy 😀👍
It was a very nice touch to dedicate this video to the Deceased Shaver. In radio hobbyist circles the term "Silent Key" is used when this circumstance arises. Perhaps a similar term will come about for Wet Shavers; maybe something along the lines of Retired Blade or similar. As for the World Cup Football and USA; speaking only from my experience in the area I am located, the only way to know this is even occurring( outside of watching TV news ) is to visit a Mexican owned business such as a restaurant(although not necessarily "Mexican Restaurant" cuisine wise)because they usually have it playing on a Big Screen TV. But I have no idea if it's a live broadcast. Thanks for the show. ;)
Thanks. I think it's good to pay respects in this way but your idea is a good one with the retired blade. I think the World Cup might get more exposure than the football that's taking place over in France at the moment as its only the European countries that are taking part. Thanks for the info 😀
Great Video Kevy! THAT is my favorite brush of all time!! It's truly an awesome performer and the Italian flag is always a plus for me! Nice lather bowl as well! Ciao
Nice shave Kevy, will definitely be picking up some of the aftershave 😌👏 So sad to hear of Rob's passing, he sounded a good man, and my heart goes out to family and friends and especially to his wife and son. I know how hard it's going to be for them, we lost my little boy's mum when he was a toddler, and he was amazing, he got me through the worst of times as much as I did for him, and it's made us so very close.
Cheers Dave, the aftershave is great. It's always sad to hear of someone passing away and it's weird because although lots of people didn't know Rob personally - myself included - it feels like losing a close friend because you feel like you kind of get to know them through watching their videos and seeing their posts on social media. So sorry to hear of your loss. It's times like those that it makes us realise just how important it is to take care of each other and enjoy every day. Good to hear you're close to your son. Thanks for sharing such a personal story 😌
+Kevy Shaves bless you Kevy, and thank you 😌 You're so right, this is such a close personal community, that events like Rob's passing hits us all, and as you so rightly said with the sentiment you shared at the end of your video, it makes us think of those we have in our lives we love, and those people we've lost that we love.
When it comes to proraso I think the red is the best stuff you can use, I’ve tried all of them and that gives the best shave imo, not just the smell but I find it softens the hair and makes shaving easier.
Proraso ist schon eine phantastische Marke und wenn man die Produkte dieser Firma im Italienurlaub für nur 1/3 des deutschen Preises kaufen kann, ist man richtig happy. Der Merkur Progress zählt zu meinen Lieblingshobeln
I visited Florence a few years ago, before I was a traditional wet shaver. If I were to go back now, I'm sure I'd return home with my luggage filled with Proraso! Lol 😂 Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
@@kevyshaves4109 ...
I love, love, love the Proraso red, so glad there is an aftershave available now, definitely ordering that. My thoughts and prayers are with the Franke family and friends
I've looked into these blades, apparently Gillette own the brand name Wilkinson Sword in India (where these particular blades are made). Funny how these things come about. Another great shave!
Great video, as usual. I disagree with the poster who said your shaves are awful. I think your shaves are excellent. Proraso products are great, I find the pre shave cream has really reduced the irritation on my neck. Thanks for posting!
Cheers Jeremy. Everyone is entitled to their opinion... Yes, the Proraso, range is all good. I like the pre shave cream a lot, good stuff. Thanks for the positive comment 👍
been using the Gillette Wilkinson sword saloon for about a year, they are all i use know fantastic blades. still have almost a hundred of the Wilkinson sword blades in the black plastic packs which i keep for special great smelling scent the proraso red sandalwood. got to get the aftershave great vid as always
I swear that the original Wilkinson Sword blades are sharper than the other ones are. I believe you can still get the black pack blades and I truly think they are better.
Levy, my Poraso Red came in today and it's actually my first really decent and authentic wet shaving soap. As many great razors and blades I've bought, I was still cheating out with Barbasol. This Porazo Red is really excellent, great smell and nice easy lather. With my Merkur 1904, a Voskod blade and this nice Sandlewood soap, I got a very close comfortable shave.ya might say BBS... thanks for the informative and relaxing videos, you make my day!
Just shaved with the exact set today! Excellent even though my Fatip gave me some nicks... PS Do you ever get bored of reading & answering the comments?? :-) I never get tired writing them!
T Rex No, never get bored of the comments. I try to answer as many as I can but it's getting more time consuming as the subscriber numbers go up! I'll try my best to keep on top of t. Keep them coming. Have a great weekend. Kevy 👍
Two questions King Kevy: - Does the Proraso Red Lotion sting after use? - Is the Pre-Shave cream been absorbed well in the skin or stays on the surface? I have the soap, excellent lather and scent. Maybe I should go with the Red lotion as well. Keep up the good work! Cheers
The Proraso Red lotion does contain alcohol so there is a little bit of sting sometimes, depends if you've had a rough or a smooth shave I guess. Again, with the pre shave it all depends how much you rub it into the skin. I guess you could apply some and rub it in just a little and leave a layer on the skin but either way it's meant to help soften the bristles and help with the glide of the blade, both of which it does well. All the Proraso products are great in my opinion. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Another great video, you're a natural in front of the camera. I've only started shaving with soap and DE blade for about 2-3 months now and I have a question about the brushes. Do you ever have to "treat/clean" them with anything? Or clean them with an alcohol? I usually rinse mine after I am done and leave it to air dry but just wondering if I should do anything to maintain it over time. Thanks again for another great video.
Cheers Christopher. You're doing the right thing with your brushes. Sometimes when you get a new badger brush it does smell a bit from the animal hair but you can lather up some soap with it a few times and usually that does the trick of removing the smell. Synthetic brushes are great, they don't need much looking after at all really. As long as you rinse them with warm - not too hot - water after the shave and leave them to air dry, they'll last you a long time. What brush are you using just now?
RazoRock Plissoft is an excellent brush. I have two of them!! Yhey don't need too much looking after. What you said you're doing with the brush is spot on: rinse and leave to air dry.I wouldn't clean it with alcohol, just some warm water will do the trick. Cheers..Kevy :)
Watching sports is about as exciting as watching paint dry. I only tease, lol. Proraso is amazing stuff, isn't it? I'll always keep it in my den. I've only used the green and white croaps thus far, though.
I see that you are using the long handle merkur progress. I know you use shorter handle razors like the 34c. I guess I would like to ask which length do you ultimately prefer? which gives you more control? Thanks
I like both the short handled razors and the longer handle on the Progress. I would say that the longer handle probably does feel nicer in my hand as I have quite big hands so it feels more comfortable when I'm shaving with it. I suppose it does allow for a little more control. I guess it really depends on the individual. Great question :)
Kevy, I like the Taylor of Old Bond street I bought based on your recommendation, really get a great smooth shave with it but I am wishing for a little more of that great sandalwood smell. Does the Proraso have a stronger sandalwood scent? Thanks again for your great videos!
The Poraso has a similar scent to TOBS, it's quite a sweet smelling sandalwood too. If you want a completely different sandalwood scent, give Geo. F. Trumper's sandalwood a try or Simpsons sandalwood cream. Both very different. Kevy 😀👍
Kevy, how do you store your pucks after you've used them? And what do you lather them in? I have way to many to keep in their own mugs, besides Mrs.C was getting wise to her disappearing coffee mugs. All the best, Mike.
Mike Conners Ha ha Mike, that made me laugh! I bought a cabinet with deep drawers from Ikea and I keep all my shaving gear in there. I think I might need to get another one soon as it's pretty much full up! I lather them in a bowl I had custom made for me from a pottery here in the UK. Before I had that, I used a big coffee mug or a breakfast cereal bowl. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves Thanks Kevy, I've seen the nice cabinets in your den video. I think I will start keeping the pucks in their original box with wax paper, keeping one shave bowl. Great video's Kevy, all the best. Mike
Awesome shave Kevy! Love that brush, I checked it out online.Great price! Gotta get me some of that Proraso red after shave. I haven't seen it online in Canada yet. I do have the Proraso pre/post shave. Do you find it works well as post shave? Regards Robert
Robert, just you wait until the Proraso red lands in Canada. You will love it!! I thought the red pre/post worked great as a post shave. You don't need much to moisturise the face after the shave 😀
Cheers Steven. Like you, I only knew Rob from UA-cam and the shaving forums. But he did seem like a decent guy. I got the Brush from www.shavingstation.co.uk Cheers...Kevy 😀
Thinking about picking up the proraso red. How is the smell? Could you compare it to TOBS sandalwood cream? I have that so I already know how it smells. Thanks kevy!
It's a little different than TOBS. It's still a very nice sweet smell but I would say it has more of a musk scent i there too. It's very nice. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Chris James Great question! Both are brilliant smelling splashes but slightly different. The Santal Absolut scent is spot on for the Art of Shaving Sandalwood cream and the Proraso red smells exactly like the red Proraso soap. Depends on what scent you prefer. Personally, I prefer the Proraso splash, as on my skin, it lasts longer than the Fine Absolut Santal. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Mr kevy it seems you know a lot about shaving, let me ask you a question. With proraso soap and aftershave smells the best ?? And planing on getting a kit this weekend... Thanks a lot.
Roberto Javier Apontes Hi Roberto. The Proraso red soap is my favourite and the matching red splash smells wonderful and lasts a lot longer than the green Proraso splash. What razor and brush are you getting? Cheers. Kevy 😀
Roberto Javier Apontes I have the white soap and aftershave but I haven't used it yet. It doesn't really smell of much to be honest. The white one is best if you have sensitive skin but in my opinion, the red soap and aftershave has the nicest scent but they are all fantastic. There's also a blue version of Proraso in a tube which is very good. Kevy 👍
Hi George. Yes, I think the Proraso pre-shaves do add a little bit of extra slickness. The red one smells amazing. It's not really that expensive either. Cheers. Kevy :)
TheDanishWetshaver Hi Peter. They are doing another round of the shaving bowls on The Shaving Room forum right now. Send me a message and I'll give you the links. Email me - kevin@kpvoiceovers.com Cheers. Kevy
Love the Kevy Shaves bowl more lines does that tell you something Just stirring lol The blades are made in China and India I think you have The Indian version these are the better ones
hey kevy, second video ive watched in one sitting lol. not sure if i am telling you something you already know, but the grain on your neck actually grows in the opposite direction of your face (up). so when youre doing your first pass with the grain, it seems as though on your neck you are actually going against the grain. here is a handy diagram i found: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/70/4b/59/704b592f847b211c9120359d191cfef3.jpg
Hey Tiegan! Thanks for watching. Yes, you are correct about the growth on my neck. My hair on my neck kinda grows to one side and I can go that way on the first pass without any irritation so it still works fine. Just the one little trouble spot that I always go with the grain on most passes. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Your shaves are awful, mate. You cut yourself every time. That's not a way to shave, honestly. I didn't have a weeper in my last year of shaves. Just take it easier. - Wet your beard with hot water before applying soap. Give it a nice rinse. - Try to keep your razor from the tip of the handle and let it slide. If you need to apply pressure, you're not using a sharp enough blade. - Don't focus on trying to remove too much hair in the first pass. - Use longer strokes. Just don't mind about how much do you remove. Don't focus on that. Focus on making sure that your razor is gliding evenly, without applying pressure. - Don't worry so much about the growth direction on the first pass. On those side areas, on the neck, my hair is wacky too. I tried the same things that you do early on, to follow the direction of the growth, but was not working. Now I just go with long strokes over them, but without applying pressure. The first pass is always from top to bottom, even if my hair on the neck is growing sideways and even up in an area. And I do one pass that will remove the lather, without insisting with small strokes. Just pass with the razor, remove the lather with long strokes. Don't insist on removing the hair. Think that you need to remove lather and only that.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for the useful tips. I'm still learning with every shave. Maybe you should do a video showing some of the tips you mentioned. It'd be useful for shavers like me who are still learning .Cheers...Kevy😀
don't have you problems with ingrown hairs? i always try to accurately follow the grain in first and second pass and it's quite uncomfortable, i still can't do it 100% precisely but my shaving gets lengthy and not that smooth.
Wonderful video.
I decided to try out the Gillette Wilkinson Sword blade once again after watching this. I previously used this blade with my plastic Gillette DE razor. Way before shaving became a hobby. I have the soap, excellent lather and scent. Maybe I should go with the Red lotion as well.

Awesome shave Kevy! Love that brush, I checked it out online.Great price! Gotta get me some of that Proraso red after shave. I haven't seen it online in Canada yet. I do have the Proraso pre/post shave. Do you find it works well as post shave? Regards Robert

Update Kevy, Just checked Fendrihan.ca in Canada. They now have the Proraso red lotion in stock! Boom!! Online shopping here I come!
+Robert S. Lol! Good stuff mate 😀👍
I'm very sorry to hear about the sad news about your mate Kevy.

Thank you. 👍
So your following Italy in the euro 16 as Scotland didn't make it ?
Lol! Like every Scotsman in the world, I'll be supporting whoever England are playing against!! Lol! 😂😜
Cheers. Kevy 😀
That poraso aftershave is hard to find for some reason.
Where do you live Mark? Kevy
Kevy how does Proraso red a/s compare to Fine Santal Absolut?
Cheers. Kevy 😀
Have you ever use the white soap and aftershave? Does it smells good ?
Im just starting in shaving the old school way, I don't have the supplies yet..
Kevy 👍

Hey Kev, George here, what do you think about pre-shave red?
Is it worth it? It helps?
Hi George. Yes, I think the Proraso pre-shaves do add a little bit of extra slickness. The red one smells amazing. It's not really that expensive either. Cheers. Kevy :)
Kevy Shaves 6 euros in Greece!
That's cheaper than we can get it here in the UK. Go for it. Kevy :)

hey kevy, second video ive watched in one sitting lol.
not sure if i am telling you something you already know, but the grain on your neck actually grows in the opposite direction of your face (up). so when youre doing your first pass with the grain, it seems as though on your neck you are actually going against the grain.
here is a handy diagram i found:

Hey Tiegan! Thanks for watching. Yes, you are correct about the growth on my neck. My hair on my neck kinda grows to one side and I can go that way on the first pass without any irritation so it still works fine. Just the one little trouble spot that I always go with the grain on most passes. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Thanks for the info, I like your ever smiling eyes. (No worries I am not gay)
fhurvhur Thanks for watching and for the lovely comment. I'm not worried 😀 Cheers. Kevy
Im just admiring the size of your upper lip
Harry Theophanous Lol! I know! It looks massive with the soap on there! Ha ha! Cheers. Kevy 😀
