Kevy tries a new razor and proceeds to pop in the sharpest blade known to man. Kevy remarks “There’s a little nick there. I didn’t even feel it”.
You are a shaving madman andI love it!
Interesting razor but now the alum conversation in the comments has grabbed my attention. I like using an alum block after I have slightly overshaved. I feel like the nicks heal faster. I leave it on until my face dries and then wash it off with water and any soap left in the brush. Then I apply after shave. If I don’t wash the alum off I sometimes feel a little sting later when I sweat.
I also like the Poraso green aftershave because of the mild menthol and a little bit lotiony quality.

Alum is part of my post shave ritual. It is how I gauge whether I have OVERshaved, or actually, how MUCH I have, as tend to do so! Followed by witch hazel, scented splash, then a balm. The ritual is what is enjoyable in and of itself.

    Feather blades for me:
First shave - so sharp they lop off the slightest little bump on my face, regardless of how slick the lather is.
Second and third shave - awesome!
Fourth shave - definitely beginning to lose its edge and starting to pull a bit.
Fifth shave - Don’t do it!
I keep a couple of packs of Feathers in my shave den, but (for me) my daily blade is a Wilkinson Sword which I use 5 times before tossing.

    Kevy,
For minor weepers like you had, I start with the Alum block, followed by a styptic pen, and if all fails I resort to the "Japanese flag" (a small corner, ~5x5 mm, from a Kleenex, applied directly to the small bloody spot. REMEMBER not to forget to remove BEFORE entering the office!)

I really like the looks of that razor. It's a little prettier than my old Fat Boy and reasonably priced. The different aggression safety bars really make sense. First pass with the more aggressive side and second pass with the less aggressive side possibly without having to mess with the number adjustment. Nice shave Kevy. Thanks for the video.

Same here. Let's face it, appearance and aesthetics do matter, even in "men's" products like sunglasses, watches, cameras, firearms, tools, etc. My fatboy performs just fine, but looks it's age. I'm getting ready to spring for an overhaul and replating.

I too love a badger brush . I have a 24mm silvertip which is gorgeous and makes and holds a fantastic lather where its a cream or a hard soap. sometimes I load a blade into a razor and it has a wee bit more blade exposure on one side than the other, I just leave it, don't mess about trying to adjust but what a o get is a slightly more (only slightly mind) aggressive shave with one side than I do the other. Works for me. I quite enjoy it sometimes. I do prefer Proraso soaps to creams actually too.

Two things, one the only blade I can use four or more times is a Voskhod (according to our Moldovan helper hard H silent K. VosHod ) I had to watch the shave a second time to remember what the second thing was which Is, I like to rinse the alum off with Thayers witch hazel. I prefer the non distilled variety...

Hmm, don’t know if I’m sold on the “two style head”, after all it’s already adjustable. Also, I don’t think I’d like having to worry about which way I had the razor turned all the time. Could also be hard to tell covered in lather. Finally, not impressed the end cap fell off the handle after apparently just a few uses. Think I’ll probably stick with my current razor.

I think having two different types of sides aggressive and non aggressive would result in uneven blade use especially if you had a rotation going.

    • @therealtech833
      @therealtech833 9 місяців тому

It's really not a thing, once you shave the number of times your blade dulls, the one used most often, you just toss the blade. In my case I rotate depending on where on my face I'm shaving so it actually wears pretty evenly. For example my chin and under nose use the smooth edge, the knurled for sides of face and neck except back to smooth around Adam's apple area. I never need to use more than two passes with this razor; one pass with the grain 5-6, then turn down to 1-2 and go against the grain, no cross-cut.

I didn't know about having the doors open to adjust a fatboy. Thanks, Kevy. That Viking's blade sure does look a lot like a fatboy. I checked the prices. Pretty reasonable actually. I was surprised. Not great that the end-cap fell off though. Think I'll stick with the old Gillettes. It's a shame that the new Proraso formulas still contain Tetrasodium EDTA which is related to formaldehyde and which I try to avoid.

Great shave Kevy. I love all your videos and the time and effort in which you put into them. I own the Vikings Blade Emperor Augustus and I like it just okay, but I don't like the dual scalloped/smooth head. Too much effort for me to try and figure out which edge of the razor to use for which circumstance. Maybe I'm just too dumb and/or lazy to try and focus which side to use.
Also, the finish is wearing off on the head as well. Its a good looking razor though but it worries me that beautiful brown finish is already wearing off after a year.

Well it kinda defeats the whole adjustable aspect of it. Why do different sided heads when you can adjust your shave using the dial?! I don’t think they thought this one through. This company also claims their blades are made in the USA… yet the packaging states PRC (Aka China) and it’s pricey at $40 for 100 blades?!* this company is always trying to pull something. I don’t trust them and they lied about their family being Swedish blacksmiths… like wtf?! Really

I’d advise anyone considering a Vikings Blade razor to reconsider. I was sent two different Meiji razors that had very crooked bars. On my he first it was the comb side, the second it was the smooth side. Impossible to shave with it. Btw that button that fell out is not a poor design. Gillette and many others have used this method so water will drain out of the handle. It’s just another example of poor construction by Vikings Blade.

A fourth use of a feather is very unlike you, Kev. Like me; you normally toss all blades into the bank after three uses. I'm not sure about this razor. The knurling is suspiciously very similar to the Weishi TTO. -however that is not a bad thing since it is one of my favorite razors. I hope this adjustable performs better with a fresh blade. I need to get my hands on the new Proraso Blue (since I don't like the green). I hope the Red is reformulated as well!! Nevertheless the end result was a very smooth, and admirable BBS shave. As far as I'm led to believe, yes, the soaps have been tweaked slightly too. Kevy 👍

Don't think that razor would suit me, I'd be a nightmare with the adjustments 🤣

There is never too much yipyip. Even at a barbershop I prefer the barber to talk, otherwise haircuts would be rather mundane

I don't know if I've ever seen anyone fuss so much applying shaving cream. You could learn a few tricks shaving my friend, the technique you're using is not in line with your blade settings.

    Hi Kevy
How is everything and Scottish rain and rain lol and But here we are with Kevy Shaves...💈👍🏼🪒
I started using Kevy my feather razor as-d2 wood edition and so far shaves are starting to be good and what’s your opinion on feather as-d2 in smoothness I had in in my for for few years and decided to put in ok shelf and “usage”...
I have pair of feather blades ohh man they are not forgiving I’m going to use em but maybe 2-3 pass max lol..
    Take care

      Kevy Shaves
I used feather blade Kevy hmm not as smooth with Tigers or Astra Blades too sharp and irritation a bit not as bad..
So I figure use tiger blades avoid feathers too sharp kevy..
