Just found this video and what a find that Shelby was! Back in 1967 at age 13 I bought a model car kit of the 67 GT 500. It came with a record of Carroll Shelby road testing it at Riverside Raceway. Glad to see the classics getting some attention. Just because they’re old doesn’t mean they can’t go fast still. I had a classic Mustang once and given the chance would gladly get another. I love the styling of the 67 - 68 Mustang and Shelby fast backs, they epitomize the best of the breed.
As regards the driving experience, I could not agree more. There are probably a lot of people out there who have gone out and bought an old car, driven it for awhile and then sold it, because they either had only vague recollections of driving this stuff 40 or more years ago or they are too young to have ever driven them. And then they find out just how good modern cars are. And I speak from experience, having had a variety of British cars over the years. When I decided to get back into a vintage car, I drove several MGBs and several Studebakers. I was basically appalled and then went and bought a brand new Mustang convertible, which (until Covid) I drive every day and enjoy every day.
The thing is with those cars, they DO have the mystique, and they were pretty much state of the art for what they were, for their time. They really are a timeless vehicle (similar to the Cougar XR7, and the 55-57 Chevy's). Without fear of insulting the import fans, there are few, if ANY JDM vehicles that hold the same universal appeal (Maybe the 1st gen Prince/Nissan Skyline GT-R or the Datsun 240 Fairlady Z). I myself have only owned 1 Mustang in my life (05 GT premium with a manual), and I agree with what you said David, that Ford tried to write a love letter to their 60's cars when they released the nu-retro car in 05. I liked the video, but I wish you had been slightly more aggressive with the throttle, and didn't upshift so fast (though I know why...car is mega rare and expensive). Thanks for sharing it with us!

You should do a review of 68 GT500KR. Cool story how Shelby came up with the idea to call the 68 versions that came with the 428 cobra jet a KR. King of the road. Chevy apparently had a Camaro commercial and called the car the king of the road. Shelby stole the idea and stuck KR on the CJ equipped cars.
The reason that this car seems so challenging is because today's cars pretty much drive themselves. I use to drive a 64 Covair and later a 70' Electra 225 Limited and everyone drove those cars the same way today's youth drives today's cars. We were better drivers of course simply because there were no disc. Brakes, limited power steering, everything was lose and we had to have better judgement otherwise we would wind up hitting a tree or landing in a ditch which many people did do. Back then a serious accident most certainly meant death whereas today's drivers just get out of their cars after the airbags deflate, collect the insurance money and buy a new car. I spent some quality time with the Roush racing guys back in 94 & 95 when my company sponsored Ted Musgrave’s number 16 Winston Cup Thunderbird and those boys could teach you a thing or two about car control. Nice video BTW.........
I used to work at a car dealership and the owner had a separate building for storing his collection. In the far corner was a 60s GT500 CONVERTIBLE totally stripped down to a shell. I was born in 2001 and I want to own a 67/68 mustang fastback. If I can afford a Gt500 that would be great but a GT will do if I can't🤣 I definitely want it to be as "original" as possible. I don't care if the engine is different I just want it to be as close to stock as possible because I want to experience the raw old school feel. I also want it to be a manual.

I loved the 67 GT500 before Nic Cage jumped one. My favorite car ever made.
I saw the original video it was pretty cool
I was born in 2001 and I want to own a 67/68 mustang fastback. If I can afford a Gt500 that would be great but a GT will do if I can't🤣 I definitely want it to be as "original" as possible. I don't care if the engine is different I just want it to be as close to stock as possible because I want to experience the raw old school feel. I also want it to be a manual.
I've never driven a 60s Mustang , but I've owned 70s Camaro's . And they didn't need much work or money to be just as good as the one's from the 90s .
Eleanor from Gone in 60 sec really amplified the resto mod craze. That car was bad ass but it overshadowed the orginal In some ways. After they started producing the Eleanor kits though that car lost its unicorn status. 🦄
Shelbys are no doubt cool in my book old or new!
This is so freaking amazing!!! Love my 04 Terminator but these cars were so bad ass
