The right solution is not to buy a Samsung Fridge. Great inside, solid shelves, awesome design, but their cooling is problematic. Talk to any repair guy. Even the salespeople know and recommend extended warranties cause you will need it. Its sad to see ALL stores willing to sell shiny faulty objects. Consumers are not being protected.

I bought the 5 year extended protection plan and the refrigerator freezer is less then 2 years old 8/2020 and the repair guy says the usually break the ice maker getting it out $500.00 to replace ice maker extended protection plan will not pay to fix. Very very very frustrated with this Samsung product. Class action needs to happen if I can’t get Samsung to stand behind this 4k refrig/freezer.

Shelves were great for a couple of years but as they age they are awful. I've been waiting for a couple of months for a $500+ order of replacement shelves. If I thought there was something better out there I'd cancel and buy a new refrigerator but it seems like they're all crummy.

GOOD NEWS ALERT 😎: THIS VIDEO is the most accurate I have seen. Thank you BEN. For all folks suffering from this problem I have GREAT NEWS. Due to the Class Action suit SAMSUNG is now performing this exact repair for FREE. It only took me 25 minutes using online chat with SAMSUNG to get a service ticket opened. Only 3 days later the entire job you described - parts and labor - was DONE by a trained Samsung technician. (New ice maker, upgraded heating coil, new Control Board - no silicone because Samsung has determined that this is not the cause of the problem.) My technician was trained on all Samsung products. Marvelous.

I have a Samsung fridge and it's the worst fridge I've ever owned.
All the chintzy plastic cracking and breaking, and the door shelves too. I've done a makeshift fix using bungee cords to keep the stuff from falling off the shelves.
Under the vegetable drawers, there's a metal support bar under it, mine was manufactured too short, so a slight shift caused it to fall, break the screws, and caused all sorts of mayhem. I've fixed it by buying new square bars and sawing them down to the max possible length so it will never fall again.
Also spent so much money having other things fixed like where the back vents are.
It's almost like the fridge was purposely intended to break everywhere and force me to go buy a new one. Planned obsolescence at it's finest. There's not any part of the fridge that hasn't broken in some way.
    Avoid Samsung fridges.

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk  3 роки тому

Samsung tends to use the worst vendors to build their components. My experience is that off-brand parts are longer lasting. I've almost always used offbrand parts like ERP, LFORBB, Supco, Blue Stars, ect, and they work better. The original Samsung idler pulley bearing is guaranteed to break in 3 years on every dryer. A 3rd party company re-engineered a superior design w/ a roller bearing and they're still running great in probably millions of dryers now.
The most ironic part? Samsung made most of the crap for Maytag before they went under. If you get a 2004 - 2006 frontload washer or dryer, its Samsung underneath the hood.

I bought the whole package of Samsung Appliances (include refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave & electric stove range). Dishwasher & microwave went bad in first 2 years. Refrigerator was fixed 3-4 times. Sometimes icemaker is not working. Sometimes it not getting cooled off. Never Ever buy Samsung Appliances at all. Even if they give away free, STILL NOT. All Korean products are trying to kill the competition by features & warranty. If there is auto or appliances. Now they have tv on refrigerator's door, etc, etc. More advance features means more problems & more repair cost. I replace all Samsung Appliances with Maytag. It has been 15 years for Maytag. Not a single problem.

    Hello,
We bought our RF56 refrigerator in 2018. So we have been dealing with this issue for a good 4 years. We have had the service here 6 times. We have done sealants on the whole area with silicone, with extra insulation on the back wall, with aluminium tape,.... We have tried and tested all the spare parts that are supposed to remedy the problem. Heated hose, stainless steel clamps, additional plastic parts, all units were replaced several times... because the drain hose was enlarged again at the inlet and so on.... Not a single component on our ice maker is original from 2018.
There is only one result, there is no possibility to operate the ice maker longer than 6 months without it freezing.
Attention, even current Samsung models still have the same problems. It is simply a faulty design! The basic defect is that there is no way to switch off the cooling coil for the ice maker. In the long run, ice always forms on the cooling coil and slowly but surely grows through the ice maker.
There are plenty of ice makers in other $500 refrigerators in the US that have no problems, whether tight or not, whether heated hose on the drain or not.
I have to take away any hope, the faulty design cannot be fixed in the long run.
The bottom line for us is clear: we will never buy another Samsung product in our lifetime.

Hi Ben's Appliances, I am Ryan and I am a second generation Refrigeration Repair Man. My Dad went to Trade School in the 60's and learned Refrigeration Repair and I was given his school books and learned about it when I was a teenager. I have a class A and D Mechanical License and I did work on the Parallel Racks in the Large Grocery Stores for many years before I got my Contractors Licenses and started to work for myself. Now being in the industry for decades, I feel that R-12, R-502, R-500, and R-22 where the best refrigerants and now that flammable gas's are being used on small equipment is a disaster waiting to happen and the small equipment industry is going toward equipment that will not last long and is too expensive to repair so new equipment sale's become a better option for the public. A lot of my commercial customers have asked me to repair the refrigerators in their homes and the Samsung is a common refrigerator I come across and on-line I do not find anything really good said about that brand. I worked on one yesterday and it was frozen up in the refrigerator evaporator air channels and the ice maker but the freezer was working well. I found the fan was frozen up and not working and I expect to be working on that refrigerator again because it had dirty wire connectors for the fan and I tried to clean it up but I just don't expect it to work much longer. I do appreciate the video you post to help others with repair information and I thank you. I prefer to work on larger Refrigeration equipment but having customers and keeping them happy includes having to also get the refrigerators in their house working as well and the new house refrigerators are not what I like to work on, they are just not made well and they are not made to last long.

After a few attempts of removing build up, it returned. I gave up for a couple of years since getting a countertop unit. I left the ice tray out and entire box eventually filled with a solid block of ice. I also had the main evap freezing over which led me to your ice maker vid. The evap area has been upgraded with your suggestions. Now the ice maker is removed thanks to the steamer idea. How can I permanently shut off the built-in ice maker? I'm not just looking to turn off the ice-making feature through the door panel-I want to disconnect the power completely so it stops maintaining freezing temperatures in the ice-maker compartment? Thank you.

ODD Occurrence: Icemaker epaired 4th time. Worked flawlessly! Happy with the results. THEN, ice stopped dropping. Question? Why. Read where if the internal light switch is fautly, meaning light staying on 100% of the time while the door's closed, this could trigger the ice maker to NOT work/drop ice. Taped the button on the door (Top, Left) closed the door and an hour later, opened the door, lights on. Further question? Is there MORE than one switch that controls lights on/lights off. Can't finding a wiring diagram. Got any ideas???

For real. This is a lot of work and headache for a refrigerator function that shouldn't be an issue in the first place upon purchasing it. You gotta be McGyver to own a Samsung fridge?

Thank you, this worked just fine. I just let the ice maker thaw - this took a day and a half, there was a brick of ice in there. Everything else was smooth. Make sure the replacement part matches the model number on the fridge. I think the circuit board changes based on model. The kit took 3 months to arrive, so custom build? My fridge was out of warranty so I had to do this myself.

We've replace the Samsung, but I'd like to keep it as a garage fridge for backup. Is there a way I can power the FRIDGE and bottom draw FREEZERS, but permanently stop power going to the icemaker section? I removed the ice maker completely, but the large metal freezing loop keeps frosting up even with "Ice Off" on the display panel. I removed the visible harness wires, and still it seems to get power. Is that loop just connected to the rest of the appliance? Thanks in advance!

When unable to open the ice bucket due to ice build up, I called Samsung customer service. After recommending a few things that didn't work, like pour hot water on the ice, even after I told them the ice bucket was not coming out, I was told to turn off the appliance until all the ice was melted. EXCUSE ME???? They even told me to wait until I didn't have too much food which would be spoiled. My answer was we were not in the 1900's, and couldn't believe there was not some kind of set up to just unfreeze the ice maker. And then.... I found your video, woohoo, and got a power steamer (second hand) for just a few dollars and just took me about 5 minutes to melt all the ice. Samsung, maybe you should hire this guy to train your customer service, just a suggestion :)

Attention Samsung junk owners, There was a class-action suit that was brought against Samsung refrigerator ice maker problems. Samsung denied any malfeasance on their part but, after waiting several years, they repaired my ice maker issues. They replaced the main circuit board plus all the interior freezer parts. My Samsung ice maker problem has been rectified at their expense and since the repair, My ice maker has been trouble-free. The rest of the refrigerator worked just fine except I couldn't use the ice dispenser for years. You know Samsung could have just fixed the problem quietly but chose to have themselves publicly criticized and forced to atone for a problem that plagued the French door/freezer bottom refrigerators.
The defrost method while functional, did not remedy the icemaker issues because the build-up was severe enough to negate using the defroster which is kept a secret from customers.

Great video!! Extremely informative!!! So, I have a question for you. I tried defrosting my ice maker prior to seeing this video with a hair dryer and I noticed when I took out that ice maker that the inside top plastic piece that's in the back or the ice maker compartment is all warped ( I'm assuming from using the hair dryer). It is the piece with the lip that's toward the top of that compartment. is there a way to replace that piece?

Got that Bissell steamer, but strangely I got lucky today and was able to pull the tray out, HUGE ice buildup over and around the ice maker though, so took a good hour or so melting it with steam. Don't know how successful I was, guess I'll find out tomorrow.

My Samsung's ice maker keeps making slushy ice, what might be the issue? I'm able to get the box out fairly easily most of the time, so I don't think it's related to moisture buildup. Happened once before and Samsung replaced it under warranty, not sure which parts though.

just a heads up to everyone....I was reading the comments here from 5 days ago.. One person said that even though his fridge was out of warranty, Samsung was trying to do the right thing by replacing these icemakers free of charge.
I can now corroborate this. My girlfriend's Samsung icemaker was also out of warranty and had been on the fritz for several months. I told her to call Samsung. Though it took her 45 minutes on the phone with a rep who was very difficult to understand on the phone, a tech was sent out today and her icemaker was replaced for free.

Good evening Ben, I have a Samsung three door refrigerator. My ice maker was working fine except for the typical freeze ups, when we remolded our kitchen counter top the guy failed to reassemble the water line. Now here I am nearly 9 months later I had my wife’s brother-in-law hook up the water line. I purchased 3 filters, changed out the old one then reset the red filter light. I waited 24 hours before trying the ice maker and NADA, NOTHING, wasn’t frozen now I’m at a stand off. I don’t know what my next step should be? I’m 62yrs old on Hospice due to an incurable type of cancer, what’s worse is I’m on a fixed income SSI, so what little I can do I do it myself. It just doesn’t make sense to me that it was working before but not now?? I know I have the mechanical skills to change it out, my problem is physically I’m unable to stand long enough to complete the job!! Any and all advice from you would be greatly appreciated!!

Instead of a connection gap, it's actually a crack in the plastic on most of these refrigerators. But why can't you reinstall that styrofoam? It looked like it could put back in.
